How does buying at more than one resort work?

I read here a good bit about people owning at more than one resort. What is the benefit. I own 170 points at BWV. What advantages are there to picking up a small contract at another resort? Does this give me more than one 11 month window? Wouldn't I need a total number of points at a particular resort to book the entire time there? I'll be interested in your responses. :cool1: :teleport:

I preface this with the statement that I am new to all of this....

You can book only your home resort at the 11 month window (for the amount of points available. Other resorts can be booked starting at the 7 month window.

So, in theory if I wanted to stay at VWL for Christmas....and I owned 150 points at Saratoga and 50 at VWL then I could book only 50 pts. worth at the 11 month window (assuring at least those days)- then book the rest of my stay at the 7 month window.

I guess spreading points between resorts opens more possibilities of booking different resorts (in theory although I am still awaiting responses to my question about this from seasoned folks).

I own at 4 resorts in order to have the 11 month window for certain times of year - HH in summer, for example, and BWV for Food and Wine. A small amount of points would work well at the 11 month window if you banked and borrowed - like taking a trip every 2 - 3 years.

We own at three resorts. But not because of the 11 month window. We needed more points and our first resort was sold out so instead of going on a waitlist or thru resale, we just bought what was available at the time. We did buy all three with the same use years.

We bought 160 BCV points from Disney. Then we bought a resale VWL 250 points contract as DH wanted the 11 month window for Christmas. I am currently booking next Christmas day by day. We always have to get a 2 bedroom as we have 4 kids. We have different use years but I don't see that being a problem as long as you keep track of things. If you always travel off season and don't want a specific week, ect. I would not bother. For us I think we did the right thing. We travel when the kids are out of school only.

I own 3 resorts - VWL, BWV and OKW - OKW is my home resort mainly - where most of points are located.

VWL is 60 points - enough for a studio for 5 days in Sept, thru Dec 1-23

BWV is 50 points - enough for a studio for 5 days in Oct, Nov or Dec 1-23
standard view.

If I can ever get back on my plan - it was for a one bedroom every other year in either VWL or BWV.....

but I enjoy them too much!

We currently own at BWV, but plan on adding on as soon as we can get some extra funds. Will probably add on at OKW or SSR. Reason? we want more points and they have lower maintenance fees.

Thanks for the input. I still think in terms of the BIG trip every two years. I'm beginning to see how to use the smaller numbers for quick trips to studios. Since I am relatively new at this and to the board, I am learning a great deal about the in's and out's of how things work.

I use my contracts for different holidays. I have one contract for Christmas, one for spring break, and one for summer. I also have added on pts so I can stay in a grand villa once every three years. Rather than taking one really big trip, we take several smaller trips, ranging from 3-10 days, so that we don't have withdrawl symptoms too often! :charac2: Withdrawl symptoms usually lead to add-on fever, think of shorter trips as preventative medicine
