How do you use chalk?

I have some REALLY cute pics of my kids and their cousins making s'mores, and I thought I would make some marshmallows to use on the page, and chalk around the edges in brown, to make them look roasted.

How hard is this? Talk to me like I'm, uh, not so smart, because I have NO clue!

Should be a piece of cake. Take some brown chalk and then using a Q-tip, rub around the edges. I think the best way may be to rub the paper at an angle perpendicular to the Q-tip. Kind of like flicking the paper against the Q-tip or the other way around which ever is easier. I hope that made sense?????? Wish DD was home and I could take some pics of what I mean and post them.

I am probably an exception to a lot of people on the subject of chalk. I cannot stand the noise it makes on paper! Honestly, it is worse than metal on metal or fingernails on a chalkboard. I'd actually use a flared brush and brown and black stamping ink. You can dab the brush in the ink and do random taps on the marshmallows - will give it the spotted bubbled look. Then go back and do like 1-2 with the black.

Cute idea! I use the q-tip method too. Just play with a scrap of the paper till you get the look you like.

When I was at CKC we used chalk ink...awesome stuff!!! The ease of ink, but the softness of chalk. I also use a detail brush sometimes for accenting lines cut into a die cut or something like that.

I use the q-tip method.... I have some awesome chalks from my secret Sis, Mar, and it has a bit of glitter in it that makes them pop!! I love it! :)

Thanks guys!

MIL is picking the chalk up for me, she should be back before too long. Our nearest AC Moore/Michaels is over an hour away, and she was going that way today.

I'm going to try the q-tip thing and see how it goes, I'll let you know!!!

I may even get brave enough to post a pic....

I did it!!! I think they turned out cute, although one of them is a little more toasty that I'd like!

Thanks again for the help!

One of the great things about chalk, is you can erase it. If it's darker than you want, just erase it and start over. HTHs.

Oh and by the way, when I was younger, my DM always wanted the burned marshmallows! They were her fav. :cloud9: We used to catch them on fire and hold them in the air and call them "Statue of Liberty" marshmallows! :rotfl2:

I've been liking the cheap sponge eye shadow applicators better than Q-tips. I used them to add brown to my marshmallows on my camping stuff for my Ft. Wilderness group in the Out of the Parks swap. I've been turning to the chalks more and more lately.

I am sorry I jsut have to share how dangerous that it..... ;) When I has in 3rd grade I tooo like dmy marshmellows that way... well someother kids were playing around the camp fire with a ball and it was going to go into the fire so I just leaning forward (making my stick vertical) to deflect the ball away from the fire, down the marshmellow melted a hospital visit, 3 degree burns, and a summer of no swimming as an adult I like to tease people (you should still see the scar 20 something years later
