How do you prepare babyback ribs?

I love babyback ribs, but have never prepared them. I bought a rack today and want to try grilling them on July 4th. I also bought some sort of pork rub as well as a really good looking barbeque sauce. I know that I put the rub on the ribs first, but do I cook them in the oven for awhile and then transfer them to the grill when they're almost done, or can I just cook them on my grill at a low temperature for the entire time? I was going to put the barbeque sauce on for about the last 10 minutes of grilling so that it won't burn.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i put mine in the oven (without the rub) in a caserole dish with foil on it at around 250 degrees for a couple of hours. i then take them out, drain the fat and let them cool abit. i put the rub (or bbq sauce if using) on and finish up on the bbq. i get nice tender ribs this way.

dh has an alternate way of doing it on the bbq. he puts on the rub and gets the bbq as low on heat as possible, letting the ribs slow cook a long time.

You can do either. My DH has yet another way of cooking ribs:

He marinades them overnight in BBQ sauce (we start with about a gallon of sauce in one of those disposable aluminum roasting pans, and add all sorts of spices to it, so it is never the same twice!). Then put them on the grill in the roasting pan over high heat. Once the sauce comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low to med low and contiune to simmer for 4+ hours until the meat is falling off the bone. DH also adds beer when the sauce gets "too thick" as it is simmering.

Messy and deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelish!

I put them in the oven loaded down with Sweet Baby Ray's sauce and bake them for about 30 minutes...then toss them on the grill to charr them :teeth: Damn, that's good :thumbsup2

Salt and pepper ( I go heavy on pepper)
Cut into 3 to 4 rib sections.
Steam for 30 minutes.
Coat with sauce and grill.

They come out just wonderful! :thumbsup2

1 cup car keys
1 whole car, unpeeled
2 miles of driving

Add ingredients together in order. Bake at 25 mph for 5 minutes and you have a yummy, moist Famous Dave's. Serves 1-25.

I season mine with garlic salt and grill really low for about 90 minutes. The last 10-15 minutes I put bbq sauce on them. They come out really flavorful and are not dry. :thumbsup2

I want my babyback, babyback, babyback
I want my babyback, babyback, babyback

Sorry... I couldn't help it! :rotfl:

This weekend Damons is selling a rack of ribs for $11. I went to the grocery store and a rack of un-cooked ribs were $16. Guess which one we may be having this weekend!

Whew! At least nobody is boiling them!

Ya gotta cook 'em "low and slow" IMO.... over a nice hickory / apple blend of wood for about 5 - 6 hours @ 225 degrees...... :goodvibes

A Famous Dave's just opened in our area.... I'm going to have to try it. I LOVE ribs....

My husband says slow and low but I found this great receipe. You par boil them for 45 minutes. You rub heavely with olive oil season with salt and pepper add crushed garlic, thyme and rosemary more oil and then garlic and red pepper flakes. Bake in oven at 375 for 45 minutes turning every 15 minutes.

I put meat tenderizer and pepper on mine, poke holes in the meat and wait about 10 minutes then put them on to boil in a big pot of water with Moore's Marinade (hickory flavor) but you can use what ever kind you like,I just pour some in the pot. I boil them until tender then put them on the grill about 20 minutes , long enough to brown a little then put my barbeque sause on. I also have a gas grill and a charocoal grill and I like to use my charocoal grill for ribs. Oh my gosh they are so good.

OK, I'm another boiler..... Sorry, but I'm a northern girl. I know nothing about proper barbeque :)

Par boil with a few bay leaves thrown in. Then grill them with honey BBQ sauce with a bit of Jack Daniels in it. Pretty darn good, coming from NH!
