How do you pray, if you do?

How do you pray if you do

  • I only prayer in a house of worship during a led service.

  • I only prayer if I need God to help me pass a test, ensure I won't die, etc.

  • I pray at every meal and at night by my bedside.

  • I don't pray prayers outloud much, but I think them to myself

  • I pray some tradition prayers outloud and other, just talk to God quietly in my heart

  • I pray to set a good example for my children and to teach them how to pray daily.

Poll Coming!
Just curious and never thought about how many ways there were and if I felt each way was AS GOOD AS the others..... me judging someone's prayer. :rotfl: H*ll musta have frozen over! Really just a curiosity thing I was thinking tonight.

I believe praying is just like having a conversation with a friend, informal and whenever you feel like it.

I pray little things throughout the day, but I do it in my own head.

I feel bad that I really haven't taught my youngest (DS6) to pray a lot. With the older two (DD20 and DS17) it was much easier.....I was younger, doing the whole good mom thing. aPoor little Kevin has been short changed. GUILTY! I'm a horrible mother because he doesn't know the Morning Offering or the ACts of Faith, Hope, and Love. Heck, I'd have to look them up to teach them to him. I could be doing so much more regarding his spiritual growth......... I am feeling so worthless.

Wow...yes.....I have a relationship with God...and I somehow never taught that to my children. You reminded me of how important it is.

I keep a running conversation going with God. I sometimes wish I was better at listening. I'm usually better at talking...and forget to listen. It is amazing the peace I feel when I listen.

I pray in my head, and all my prayers start out "Please bless my friends and family with good wealth, good health, and great happiness". :flower1:

I pray out loud (especially with DD), silently, to others, before bed (on my knees). I pray, and call on the name of Jesus, quite often.

For some unknown reason, I feel like those prayers I pray in my head don't count....... but I still do it.........that's when I really say what's in my heart.

I think I'm conditioned to think that only "out loud" prayers count.

Very stupid way of thinking!

I grew up always talking to God in my head/heart every night. I would say a some "formal" prayers and then just talk to Him. My long talks with Him have pretty much gotten me through the really rough patches in my life. I do have a tendancy to let many weeks get by before we chat...and then I tell Him how sorry I am...just as if I have let down my closest friend. Probably sounds a bit corny, but thats how it is :) .

We'd all have much less hectic lifes if we were better listeners. I think we miss many answers to our prayers because we are to busy talking to hear or recognize them!! :)

In my faith, prayer is appreciation; having appreciation for and expressing appreciation for ...

We pray outloud as a family before dinner each night.

Then I pray silently other times. There are times I will be driving in my car and I will say a prayer.

I picked traditional prayers out loud and quietly in my heart. We pray outloud before meals, pray outloud at church, and pray outloud whenever else we feel the need. I also pray quietly in my car, at work, and wherever.

Im glad to see some people think of prayer as that quiet talking that goes on in your head.
I was brought up with formal prayer. Stopped when I was out of the house.
This past Oct I joined a new Catholic Church in town - try to get to Mass weekly (when Im home).
Ive been doing alot of soul searching the past 6months, alot of talking in my head - never thought of that as prayer but maybe it is

Sometimes I pray in the car and sometimes I pray silently but I usually lose track of those prayers (add or something) and will start thinking of something else in my head. But, often, I do say quick prayers silently that keep an ongoing conversation going with God throughout the day (in those, I'm doing the talking--no listening really)

I try to have a quiet time with God each day. It is then that I pray aloud and from my heart. Not a memorized prayer or one from a book (which is OK IMO, but I think the relationship with God is strengthened if you say your own words.)
I often pour out my heart to God. It may be total appreciation, asking for help in coping with an issue or letting Him know what I am *really* feeling (ie. mad, sad etc.) I figure God knows what is in my heart so I'll just let it out--sometimes He gets both barrels.
Then, I always try to shut up to listen. And I know some people laugh, but God does answer. God does speak today.

I take my relationship to God very seriously. I GET to have a relationship with Him through Christ. I get to speak directly to Him instead of going through a High Priest. I think that is an awesome, awesome thing. But don't treat that relationship with enough respect or I would spend more time with God than I do. But I believe God knows my heart and knows my intentions.

I think showing your kids how to have a relationsip with God is THE most important thing you can do for your child. Show them it is a priority in your life and I think they may well turn to God more in their own lives.

yep.

I pray a lot. Asking for blessings for people, thanking God for things, we pray at meal time with the kids and at night before bed with them.

::yes::

I pray at night after I turn my light out before I go to sleep.....but I admit that sometimes I fall asleep 1/2 way through my prayer. I know that's unfair to God. Sometimes I say what I have to say out loud, other times it's in my head. When I leave the house each morning, with DD3 in the car, we say an out loud prayer to ask God to watch over our house and our dog while we're gone, and to help me & daddy get to work safely (long commutes). She calls God "the God". As in, "is the God up in the sky?". We don't go to church anymore but I'm trying to work on that.

DD and I pray aloud at bedtime each night. It is a great way to find out what is worrying her and what makes her happy by how she prays and what she says. Outside of church my prayers are the ones in my head as the day goes by. It comes to mind and I just through it out there.
