How do you organize your scrapbook papers?

DH got me a rolling cart for Christmas with 12x12 plastic boxes. I know this is a loaded question but I'm ready to get organized and now I have no idea where to start. Do you sort by color, card stock vs, printed? What do you do with all the scraps, the let over papers that have already been used but still have life left? Do you mix them in with the 12x12s of the same color or put them in a seperate space? Arrrgghhhh! Help!!!

I have a crate that is on wheels and I keep my paper separated by cardstock, prints, specialty paper, stickers and scraps. I cut up boxes to make dividers for each section. Within each section, I keep them in colors. I don't have a particular oder, just so all the main colors are together. I hope this is making sense. I also have all of my holiday papers together at the back of my prints section.

I have 12X12 holders that look like magazine holders and I organize it by color. I do reds - solid (carstock and regular), prints by flowers, checks, plaids, dots, stripes and misc. I put them in order of the rainbow ROY G. BIV. Perhaps a bit excess ive but once it is done, I know where every color is at my fingertips.

For the scraps, I have two bins that I toss them in. Still havent come up with a good way to organize that.

I use the vertical storage from Cropper Hopper! It rocks my socks! I tried everything and this system is the best!

I organize c-stock by color, and patterned paper by type. I used to organize p.p. by designer, and found I was not utilizing all of my paper.

Since I don't have a scrap room or even a scrap space, I have to keep all of my supplies very mobile. I have the XXL Tote box and inside of that I have several clear Craft Keepers for my paper. I have one for shades of blue, one for yellows, reds and oranges, one for natural colors such as tan, cream, grey, black, brown, etc, one for greens and one for purples. Then I have envelopes that are stripes only (I LOVE stripes!) and a seperate one for patterns in general. If I buy paper whether it be solids or patterned w/a certain L/O in mind, I have a seperate envelope for that but it's not as big as the others. I also have an expanding folder for 8 x 10 paper and since I don't have alot of that, it works pretty good. For all my scraps, I have a clear envelope that I throw the pcs in. I ALWAYS try to use up pcs before I cut a full sheet. Probably not the most organized way but it works for me considering my situation.

I have a 12x12 plastic Artbin and I organise by colourede cardstock, white cardstock, bright patterned paper, vintage patterned paper and Disney patterned paper. I also have a cardboard box a bit bigger than A4 which I keep A4 and smaller card/paper. Scraps are organised by colour into polly pockets and stored in a ringbinder.

I seperate my cardstock and patterned paper. I have a crop in style p3 paper storage tote for my cardstock only, and 12 x 12 acrylic trays for my larger collections of patterned paper by company; MME, Scrapworks, Chatterbox, K& Co, mod, karen foster, and my Disney papers. then my random other patterned paper by different companies is in my CIS paper takers organized by theme/colors. then i have hanging file folders for my 8 1/2 x 11 patterned papers and cardstock and another paper taker for scrap papers.

sorry i'm not too much help, i really need to get mine more organized than it is. I am thinking about ditching the acrylic trays and/or the paper taker and getting the vertical cropper hopper storage, but i have tons of paper and it would take alot of storage!

I use the cropper hopper vertical storage also....My cardstock is in 3 of them...seperated by color w/a divider between each. Then I have 5 of them for pattern paper (yikes I guess I like pattern paper) I have it seperated a few ways....by major color, but then I also have a Christmas. Fall, Summer, School, Music/Skating, and doggie section. I would love a better way for organizing my pattern paper...nothing really seems to work for me...

Scraps...I have a 3 drawer plastic thing (12x12)...I seperate by major color family...(blue/green/purples, red/orange/pink/yellow, black/white/browns) & just throw the scraps in there.

hth a little

I use the vertical storage system and it works ok for the most part but I have two problems:

I had them on the top shelf of my desk and it was breaking my back pulling them up and down so now they are in a crate on the floor, which is also not great for my back. I think I need to invest in one of those rolling carts so they will be a good level for me to work with them.

The dividers work great for cardstock (which is sorted by color), but it is still hard to find the patterned paper I need. I end up pulling everything out to look through to find the right color/design. I don't know how to imrpove upon that though.

My scraps are sorted into three categories (white/vellum, cardstock and patterned paper) and thrown into a 12x12 box with a lid that slides under my desk. Works pretty well when I remember to sort my scraps!

I organize by color and season and use the desk top stackers for files with a sheet of cardboard under the bottom piece of paper

I sort my cardstock by color and my pp by company if I have a set of it (like Wild Asperagus), theme if I use that theme a lot (dog, birthday, etc.) and by color if I just have a few and I can figure out the main color, lol! I use the vertical CH holders and I'm lovin' them. :cool1: It took me a while to get it all sorted out, but I feel so much more organized.

Good luck!

I also changed to the Cropper Hopper Vertical Storage even with the PP which I do by company since I seem to have lots of KI (2) & Basic Grey (1) :goodvibes . Yep, I  KI!

I'm also a member of Club Scrap (since 2000) but I keep those in their "pizza" boxes in my scrap room closet, you should see that closet it's crammed to the top - I really need to reorganize those papers but I'm afraid I'll go bankrupt getting the vertical storage for those :confused3

Another storage thing I just got is the Target cubes for my embellishments and paper scraps.

I use the 12x12 clear craft keeper envelopes..I tuck the flap inside. i got the idea from a scrapbook room on 2Peas.

I sort by color/pattern for patterned paper...ie, anything blue and striped, etc

Sort by color and size for card stock.

I just did a 5 hour sort on Sunday...tore up all my stacks into colors, etc.
I have more purple and pink patterned paper now than I can use in a lifetime.

After experimenting alot and recently reorganizing my scrapbooking room I now keep my paper as follows:

---Plain paper and simple patterned paper is in 12x12 plastic drawer cabinets by color families (oranges, yellows etc.). I can rearrange these drawers into any number of configurations at any time and currently have them stacked in 5s, waist high right where I scrap. I can see all colors and reach over into them while I work.
---Themed paper goes into 12 x 12 clear plastic envelopes with related stickers, embellishments etc. ready for pics to be added when I get to the project; so here is my Disney, Boy Scouting, Bahamas trip papers etc. neatly stored but over on a shelf, out of reach.
---Other patterned paper that doesn't fit into any specific category mentioned above is in one big plastic bin in hanging files on a waist high counter that I can see and browse through at will. It probably could use some more subdividing but I haven't gotten to that yet.

I only save good size scraps for tags or borders and I keep them with the color or original paper.

Over the years I have found that my needs and preferences have changed and that if I'm going to scrap effeciently then I better put my paper where I can see it and grab it easily.

Experiment a little and improvise if want. My DH says that I am the "Queen of Improvisation"!

Have fun! ;)

I have a huge plastic storage tub with cover...and I slide in under my desk. It's really heavy. It's not a good system at all. I can't lift it to the light to really see the colors well.

When we move, I plan on setting up one room as an office / craft room / scrap room with a sofa & tv. So, I've starting to collect ideas for better storage, & I keep seeing the vertical cropper hoppers everyone is talking about. I think I might try that.
