I made milkshakes for lunch today. I put in ice cream, a little milk and some chocolate syrup. The kids didn't complain, but the consistency didn't look quite right. Is there a secret for getting the "perfect" milkshake?

Now, here in MASS, what you made is not a milkshake, it is a frappe. :teeth: (Milk, chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream= Black and White Frappe)

A milkshake is milk and syrup blended together.

How do YOU make the perfect milkshake?

Step 1: Take out milk, ice cream, a little vanilla and some chocolate syrup.

Step 2: Put it all back in the fridge and drive to Dairy Queen :teeth:

In Ontario, the milk and syrup (if it's chocolate syrup), would be...chocolate milk! :)

I make my milkshakes the same way you do, Karista. Just a bit of milk at first, adding more if necessary, but, the straw must be able to remain upright in the middle of the glass (perfect consistency). Perfect...well almost..throw a banana in the blender too! Yummy!! :)

The thicker the better. I add ice cream, then some more ice cream, chocolate syrup, chocolate powder, or other flavor (my favorite is a splash of OJ), and only enough milk to allow the blender blades to actually moves the ice cream. Blend until thoroughly mixed. The perfect shake is when the straw stands straight up when only pushed one inch into the shake.

Try this sometime - just like a Frostie at Wendy's!

1 c Milk
1/2 c Nestle's Quik (Dry Mix)
3 c Softened vanilla ice cream (-softened by leaving in fridge 1 hour)

Put all in blender: Then blenderize!

Steve took my answer but I skip step #1 and just get directly in the car. :)

I love DQ's strawberry shakes. I loved them even more when I was pregnant. It was the middle of winter and I stopped to get one everyday on the way home from work! :teeth:

LOL--only if you are using chocolate syrup!! And it gets more frothy and thick in the blender than if you just mix with a spoon.

A half gallon of chocolate ice cream and a quart of half and half cream in a blender. Yum!!!

I always ad instant hot chocolate powder.

Keep adding ice cream untill the blender will not run any more.

(TC's sounded good)

Does the angioplasty come before or after the milkshake? :p

You need simple syrup to make a real vanilla milkshake. :)

Chocolate also needs malt to tase right to me, but that's an opinion. I also use vanilla ice cream for a chocolate shake.

A blender just isn't enough power and adds way too much air for me. I have a milkshake machine and that really makes a difference (it's busted though, bad motor bearing I think). I bought a used one a few years ago for $40 to mix up that weight gainer powder junk into a decent shake.

I don't make milkshakes but when I was growing up, my Mother made them with ice cream, syrup and a raw egg. I don't know HOW we survived!!! (no seatbelts, carseats, ate raw ground beef, used raw eggs in milkshakes, ate batter with raw eggs... )

They were good, though:p .

It is in powder form..

it comes in either chocolate or vanilla. Directions are on the back of the jar.

Blend 3/4 cup cold milk, 3 tablespoons of the malted milk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla in a blender add 2 or more scoops of vanilla ice cream blend and serve.

then add toppings like whip cream, nuts, cherries, and chocalte syrup.

I don't know how they make them, but a restaurant called Nifty fifties makes Coconut milkshakes that are to die for!
