I remember seeing somewhere (I think on the food network) that the oil needs to be a certain degree that cannot be achieved in a "home" kitchen. Something about insides melting before batter turns golden. But I remember thinking that maybe they were just saying that so you'd come to his place.....like it was a show on this guy's sweet shop. But it made sense. I don't remember the degree either but it was really high!

thanks;)

anyone had these? That is one of our biggest regrets when we went to Disney, that we didnt try one:laughing:

I'm not a chocolate or snickers fan, but maybe some fairs have them? I know I saw them at the beach this past weekend.

I didn't know that Disney had these. I have seen them at fairs and carnivals but so far not at Disney. Where can you get them?

Sorry, but I feel sick just thinking about it!

My husband and I tried sharing a deep fried oreo at our local fair and it was disgusting. I can't imagine the snickers would be much different. If I were you, I'd try using one of those little bite sized ones, make a batter (like funnel cake or even beer batter) and do it that way. You probably wouldn't dip it any more than a few seconds -- just enough to cook the batter without melting the candy.

Yeesh, I feel guilty enough whenever I actually have a Snickers, I can't imagine going that extra mile!

Actually, a really high temperature will burn the outside before the inside is heated through. A temperature that is too low will result in the batter soaking up a bunch of grease. The perfect temperature (for all fried foods) is the one where the inside get's cooked in an amount of time that neither causes the outside to burn or soak up too much nastiness. Most battered foods fry at a temperature around 375.

It should also be noted that oil begins to break down over 400 degrees, resulting in nasty tasting food.

Because they taste really really good.

I'm thinking back to college. What the guys used to do was buy the fun size Snickers. Then they would coat them in Bisquick pancake batter and toss them into the fry daddy for under a minute. You could probably also coat them into slice and bake sugar cookie dough. Now I want one. I'm PMSing that would kill all the cravings at once. :rotfl:

Sorry- sounds disgusting!

I too thought deep fried candy bars sounded disgusting...until I tried one. A snickers...at the county fair. Food of the Gods I tell you! Just as delicious were the fried Oreos.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

No to me, gross is fried green beans.

I've never had one, but they look like they are coated in some kind of funnel cake batter.
