how do you make a turkey overnight?

and peeled 4 fresh cloves of garlic. (Yes, it takes forever to peel it by hand, and your fingers will smell like garlic all day, but fresh is best.)

Next time, instead of peeling it like that, do this. Lay the clove on the counter. Take a big chefs knife (or any knife w/ a wide blade - meat cleaver, etc) and lay the flat part of the blade on top of the clove and give it a good bang w/ your hand. It will split the peel and the peel will slip right off. Learned that on Food Network!

...but WHY do you all cook your turkeys overnight? Do you eat them for breakfast? :confused3
We have aways put the turkey in the oven really early in the morning...we eat at 1:00. I got a frozen bird to cook on Friday and just found out my sister isn't feeling well and is cancelling the dinner Thursday! I don't think my turkey is thawed out enough to cook a day early.

I had surgery recently and am not allowed to lift anything or travel. That is why dinner is at our house.

DH had today off. Dh was going to make the 12 hr trip to get his DD today and be home by 4 or 5 today. That way he could put the turkey in the oven Thursday morning for lunch at 1:00.

He was told yesterday that he had to work today. Soooo....He will not be leaving until after work at 5 or 6 tonight and not getting home until morning. He will go straight to bed.

I was trying to help him. If he could put the turkey in the oven before he leaves then there is less to do when he gets home after being awake for 24 hrs.

I do not want anyone to get sick though.

I was just watching rachael ray and she had the butterball turkey ladies on. They said you can thaw a turkey in the sink of water. 30 minutes per pound. If you need to thaw it faster they said to change the water often,

If you have a large cooler you can fill that with water to thaw the turkey as well. That works for us so my kitchen sink is free for my day before cooking stuff.
