How do you leave the room upon check out?

Just wondering if there were any rules or guidelines on how you are supposed to leave the room upon checkout...Do you have to strip the beds? Mop the floors? All trash cans emptied and removed?
I am a neat freak to begin with so I will always have it clean, just wondering if there were rules to how you have to leave the room when returning home

We generally treat it like a hotel room, but we'll wash any dishes that we have. We also leave the sofabed open, so that they know we used it.

In general we:
Pack up any trash and store near the door or if passing by the trash room will take it ourselves.
Strip the beds.
Place all used towels/wash cloths/etc in the bath tub.
If leaving before 10 AM, we call mousekeeping so that they can start the cleaning/turnover process.
Wash, dry, and put away any dishes we used.
Report any issues to maintenance.

Like most, I run the dishwasher, consolidate the garbage and put all of the dirty towels in one place. I also clean out the fridge and freezer and leave any unopened food/beverages on the counter in case anyone coming in may want them. (I don't expect that they do, but I don't want to toss unopened food). :)

We do the same, except we just load and start the dishwasher rather than wash and put away the dishes.

I will put dishes in the dishwasher and pack up the food.

There's no way I'm stripping the beds or taking out the trash. It might be a timeshare but they are still paying people to clean my room and there will be a tip too.

It's still vacation, IMO, if I wanted to do all that I'd buy a house.

I am so glad to read this.

I was starting to think about we were really going to have to rethink our last day at Disney, to include time to clean the room.

If we use the sofabed, we typically strip off the sheets & blankets and leave them on the floor. We then close it to get it out of the way while we are getting ready.

I gather the towels and throw them in the tub and consolidate the trash in the can.

Clean out the fridge, I leave anything unopened in there.

If in a room with a dishwasher, I load the dishes and turn it on. I don't do any handwashing of dishes, I figure that would not meet sanitation guidelines.

For the 6N we're in residence I make the bed, wash dishes, wipe everything down, etc. Departure day we leave $20 on the table, pack up our stuff and walk out the room - bed unmade, dishes used, coffee grinds still the pot.

;) Figure the $20 is thanks for walking into a clean room, the towels/toiletry replenishment on day 4 and getting the room ready for the next party.

We pick things up, throw away trash (not take it out) and put the towels in one spot and that's about it. This is pretty much what we do at a regular hotel too. I try to pick up, but don't go nuts with any real cleaning. We put the dishes in the dishwasher as we go, so I guess we probably run it before we leave, but I can't remember actually! I don't think we make a point to, but we don't leave crusty dishes out either, lol!

Very close to the condition we found it with the exception of a stripped bed and whites stacked in one bathroom. Oh yea. We do not take out the trash but it's usually consolidated to one place (what's left that hasn't already been taken out).

Other than that, you'd be hard pressed to tell we were ever there.

We stopped tipping housekeeping shortly after we joined DVC.

Okay, getting worried here.

I thought part of our dues were for housekeeping.

Is that not the case? Are we suppose to clean the room? Take out the trash? Strip the beds?

Is there a list of what should be done before we leave? Maybe posted on the back of the door? Or somewhere in the kitchen?

Clean out the fridge.
Put all the towels in a pile on bathroom floor.
Not much more I should have to do. That is why they have housekeepers.

You don't have to do anything except vacate the room by 11 AM.

The others are just describing what they do to help housekeeping get the room ready for the next guests. They hope their efforts will allow the next guests to get into the room early and that they'll pay it forward - and thus they might have a better chance of getting in early themselves next time.

We empty the fridge, throw out open things and put any unopened on the counter for the Mousekeepers. Put dishes in the dishwasher, but don't start it as I don't know what else they want to run through. We will strip the fold out and leave the sheets on the floor then fold it back up. Towels in the tub and that's it.

To me, there are two things that I feel I need to do - 1) if we used the hideabed, get the sheets off it. Its too easy for housekeeping to ignore a folded couch and leave a surprise for the next guest in terms of dirty rumpled sheets. And 2) stack and run the dishwasher - I IMAGINE that if the dishwasher isn't run, it just takes that much longer to get the room back in service for the next guest since what I think happens is they load the dishwasher, then get back to those rooms at the end of their day to unload the dishwashers. I think those two things don't cost me much in effort, turn the room around faster for the next member, and reduce the number of defective rooms. I suspect most everything else I could do housekeeping can do faster and easier and probably better than I'm willing to do on vacation.

(I do a "messy made" bed for any beds slept in - the sort of bed that a housekeeper would know has been used - but the idea isn't to make the bed to save housekeeping. Its to check for lumps of discarded socks or lost stuffed animals that might end up in the bed so nothing gets left behind while packing.)

We do 4 things:
Put any unopened food on the counter;
Put all used towels on the floor by the shower;
Put all used dishes in the dishwasher and run it;
Walk out the door and start planning on the next time that we will be there.

I put the towels in the bath tub, consolidate the trash, leave the sofa bed open so Mousekeepers know we used it, wash, dry and put away the dishes. I do all this so that the Mousekeepers can get the room ready as quickly as possible for the next guest. I always appreciate it when I get into the room before 4 PM. I hope the person taking over my room can get in early too.
