I should be within a month of receiving my DVC member number. How do you learn how to do everything? There is just so much to learn.

Reading DIS boards of course. And really, there isn't that much to learn how to use it. Most of the learning should come before you buy...

Couldn't agree more

Read the boards in the DVC section - just about every question you can think of has already been asked - just search

If that doesn't work - open a new thread with your question

Ask your guide - last resort

Don't bother.

There are just a whole lot of intricacies that have to be learned. I've never purchased booked a reservation, purchased an annual pass, used Magical Express, done a split stay, ordered DDP no less on a split stay, the logistics of banking, borrowing and holding, etc. The list goes on. Is there a thread somewhere "You are a new member. Now what?"

Well, almost all of that isn't DVC specific.

Same answers apply - read the boards - just check the "New Posts" regularly and look at the subject lines - everything you discussed will eventually pop-up in a thread

As DisDadDVC said - your questions aren't really DVC specific - but they will have been answered somewhere here in the past.

Prioritize - what's the first thing you want to know - of your list "booked a reservation" would seem to be first - need a reservation before you worry about dining, or tickets, or Magical Express, etc.

As far as "the logistics of banking, borrowing and holding, etc." - these are really things you should have a reasonable idea about before buying into DVC - not that you can't enjoy using your points without the knowledge before you buy - but I would bet that many of us here would agree that if you don't know how to use your points prior to purchasing them you may not have done sufficient due-diligence. We all want you to be happy with your purchase (most of us quality as pro-Disney, many fanatics in the crowd, too) and being informed is the best way to be happy.

If you don't know the logistics - start in the "Purchasing DVC section" and look up those threads - banking, borrowing, etc.

Read all the paperwork sent to you. And you can request the Public Offering statement for you resort from Member services. Plus read the DVC Information Center at the top of the page, there is a wealth of information there, including information about Use Year, and Using your membership.

I read the rules on my paperwork then played about with numbers in a spreadsheet to finalise how i was going to use it.

As a new resale buyer who hopefully did an informed purchase, you should have most of what you'll need to know already. I'd say this and similar boards are the best way to round out your education. Ultimately it's using the system and then digging into details that should give you the final details. We're all still learning plus the system changes over time.

Read, read and read some more!! I am going to be receiving my new number soon but am already trying to plan out our trip which isn't until 2017. I was already foreseeing a shortage of points for my trip but with the help and a little information from the members here I learned about the ability to do the points buy up at 7 months. I think there are things that you will learn along the way but i have learned a lot from reading the "DVC member services" category and the issues that other fellow members have encountered and how they worked through it. The members her are great and an invaluable resource.
