How do you know you have arrived??

Actually, come to think of it, I also liked hearing the train driver "All aboard!" on the way in to MK and you see the Castle in the distance. Sadly, I don't think they make this announcement anymore!

Just to see his face light up so many times and to see him having such a good time is worth it.

Exactly, Johnny the ONLY reason to go through such a ghastly travel time is to see the faces of the people you love when they get there

Well Taxi arrives at 05:30 and we get to Manchester about 06:45, flight is at 10:25 - we are upgrading to PE next year, but usually we get a bulkhead seat because of Joshua's special needs - just like to get there early and get settled, make sure we get our seats etc

Anyone will tell you the traffic down the M61/M60 is very bad even early in the morning, I work in Cheadle so I know - setting off at 07:00 for example you run the risk of traffic hold ups which is the last thing we need.
With Joshua's needs we do more planning for the build up to the holiday than we do when we get out to Florida.

can synpathise with you Johnny. for a 12.30 dep we still have to get up early for DS.

04.30 - get up - take full 2 hrs to get DS ready (loads of medical issues)
08.00 - taxi to airport (want to get there in plenty of time to organise seats etc)
17.00 - arrive Sanford
19.30 - 20.00 arrive at hotel (have to collect special adapted car enroute)
then get DS in to bed and one of us goes out for bread milk etc.
24.00 - fall into bed.

we know we have hit flordia when we feel the heat in the tunned going from the plane to the terminal building :)

I fully agree - the holiday is worth it though - we all get tired, irrespective of whether we have children with special needs (ALL children are special).

The beauty of these boards is sharing that - they can't be beaten for that.

That first blast of heat is wonderful and it tells me I've arrived in Florida, which in itself is great, but
for me it is driving into disney
The first sign of the purple welcome gates
Yes i am home again
I couldn't agree more :teeth: this tells me I've arrived at the best place in the world and this is when I get that truely excited feeling in the pit of my stomache

I know what you mean. We often fly out of MSP (Minneapolis-St.Paul) which is about an 8 hours drive south of here. In August, we already were nervous about making the flight because we had left with just enough time. The traffic on I-94 was absolutely horrendous coming into the Twin Cities (was rush hour, and the weekend so people were just pouring out)...fortunately, the worst traffic was on the other side (coming out) and the traffic must have been dead stopped for nearly 20 miles outbound. Even the gas station we stopped out right outside was packed and took 30 mins to navigate in, get gas, and get back on the freeway. We did hit the traffic once we got onto the beltway and things were looking pretty bad. Fortunately, the flight was delayed nearly 3 hours so we lucked out! Only bad part...arrived at MCO at nearly 2:00am!

Yes, it's all part of the planning I guess - but it is something that is difficult to plan - frustrating isn't it.
At least there is an enjoyable holiday at the end of it all, makes it all worth it.

Yep- even though we didn't get to sleep at the house until 3:00am, we were up and ready the next day for MGM!

Good for you - that's the way to do it!!

I suppose for me is when the plane actually lands especially after 9 1/2 hours of my 2 DS repeatingly asking "are we there yet"??!!! or "how much longer"???!! But the thing what really puts a lump in my throat is the next morning when we visit MK and we drive through the welcome sign, i always get the hairs stand up on my neck at that stage.... roll on Dec 14th :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

For all the Uk people on the board, one (sort of) word I think sums it up:- M25 :guilty:

Oh crikey, yes!!!!!!

How about getting back to the subject of the thread folks????

You know you have arrived when you try to put the key of the rental car into a door with no key hole....

(I didnt really but i bet loads do)....

You know you have arrived when you walk out on to the patio of your rented villa with the sun shining and see that wonderful pool.

I agree about stepping off the plane and the shuttle but the BIG factor for me is crossing the road to Dollar when the heat REALLY hits! Then driving onto the roads with DH saying "which way now?" Nothing like it anywhere.

DW and I totally agree with this one!! It's that first short walk outside across to the Dollar car pool that does it for us. Always brings back memories of our first time and something I will never tire of experiencing!!

For us it's when we arrive at Newark. We get our first look at the American sights and sounds and have our Teraki (sp) chicken while waiting for our next flight.
