trying to organize all the junk that we have - we have a media cabinet thing that held our last tv that I can't stand so I wanna get rid of it - our new tv isn't gonna sit on there - we'll put it somewhere else

Can you tell me where you put your things - DVDs. CD's, wii, etc.... if you have any pics I'd love to see....

I have a large cd collection, not as many DVDs, let's not even start talking about vinyl albums. None of the storage is fine furniture quality, so I've moved about half of the stuff into some cheap shelving in a basement storage room, and some in a dedicated "library" room. If you have the space to do this, it will really help the look of your main room for tv viewing. I'm hearing more and more that people are moving their digital media to servers but that's a whole 'nother topic.:)

I have different sized boxes from Ikea for Wii games, CD's and DVD's. :) The media stand is actually a bookcase from Ikea that's just sat on it's side. :goodvibes

My arrangement of my "stuff" looks a bit different since I've moved it around, but I wanted to give you an idea of the boxes we use to store things in. :)

All of my music has been converted to digital and I don't buy any more physical music media so it is all stored on redundant hard drives.

As soon as I get around to it I will be converting all of my DVDs to mountable ISO files and set up a media server to play them. Storage is cheap and this way I can have a backup of everything. Right now if a DVD breaks, gets scratched, lost, or stolen it is gone. Once it is digital (and backed up off site of course) all of that goes away.

Until I get the server built and the NAS set up for the movies I take My DVD out of the platic case and throw that away. My DVDs are in a book like this:

I'm in a bit of a different situation. I have spindles of live shows. I have a terabyte of storage that is maxed out. I put my shows on dvd's and right now they are stored on spindles. For the most part I can put my hand on a show fairly quickly, most are separated by alphabet but there are a few artists that are all by themselves. I keep asking for this for Christmas:

no one has taken me seriously yet. This would be more for storage in the office than in the family room.

In our family room, we have a set of shelves that are behind the television. We have three dedicated to movies and cd's. So far it works out. Sadly my vinyl is still in the basement until we find all the cables for the stereo. They did listen about that though, my speakers were reconed and audio coils replaced for Christmas.

Thanks for the replies (and pic! sara jayne -love how you turned the bookcase sideways)

I thought I had things figured out in my mind - a bookcase to use with closed doors on the bottom to hide the wii & such until my dh reminded me - DUH- that I can't have those things hidden 'cause of the sensors!

I just wish there was a way to hide it all!

You can do that with the Wii since the sensor is separate. Our Wii is below the TV in the TV stand, but our sensor is on a book shelf above. That is all your Wiimote needs to function.
