How do you handle Facebook invitations?

I'm not a fan of the mass invitation for product parties. I always feel like the people are just looking for numbers and don't really care who actually attends. If it's an invitation for a party from someone I know well (like a graduation open house), I will definitely respond.

Last week, a neighborhood friend had a moms-only party. They were going to swim, eat, drink, no men or kids allowed. I received a Facebook invite about two weeks before the party. It looked like it might be fun, so I checked the RSVP list to see if anyone I know was going to be there. I noticed that many people had declined the invitation in early June. It seemed to me that, in order to get more people to attend, the hostess sent out a "second wave" of invitations and I fell in that group. Yes I was invited, but obviously not on the "first choice" list. It's not really a big deal. It just felt weird to me, like "I want more people at my party so I'll move on to the next tier of friends." If she had done it all through the mail or personal email, no one would know who had been invited or when. Social media makes it all so transparent.

I would totally ignore both of these 'invitations' and if anyone asked me about them, I'd say "Oh, I didn't see that".

Hit "will not attend" or just ignore. I don't do MLMs or parties. None. Ever. Hate them.

Agree, especially when the invitation is from someone who has never invited me to a purely social party. Now she's decided to sell Mary Kay and suddenly she's texting me about why I haven't responded to her party invite.

OP here, the person who did the mass invite finally did contact me yesterday afternoon, "hey I never heard back from you and need to get a head count for my party tonight...". My reply, "Oh sorry, I overlooked that FB invitation but no, I won't b able to make it."

They are annoying! Every week I seem to get added to LLR groups. Previously it was 31 bags, It Works, Scentsy, Do-Terra, and some nail group. Not interested. I always remove myself from the group as well as mass email messages. I find it to be rude that I'm added to these groups. They feel it's fine to add me to their sale groups, yet don't feel the need to purchase Girl Scout cookies from me when my girls are selling them. Go figure.

I leave the groups, as well, but I wish that they couldn't add without permission. I was glad to learn from this thread that I can prevent them from adding me back. I hadn't ever noticed that feature. At least they can't keep readding me now.

I'll accept any FB friend request if I know you. Whether I continue to follow you or unfollow you depends on whether you bore me.

Things on FB that bore me include:

--Political discussion: if everything you post is "the liberals this" or "the conservatives that", then I'm probably going to unfollow you.

--Crackpot posts: if everything you post is "the Illuminati this" or "eating oranges will cure your Stage 4 lung cancer" that, I'm probably going to unfollow you.

--Vaguebooking: if everything you post is an attempt to get attention, I'm probably going to follow you.

--Game/party invites: if my FB friendship with you is nothing more than an attempt to get something, I'm definitely, 100% going to unfollow you.

I don't care if it's impolite - I remove myself from groups that I don't want to be apart of and I ignore "invites" to massive parties. Now, if an in-person party invite has a smaller guest list, I will mark a response.

What's impolite is someone adding you to a group without your permission where you will get spammed with every post that is made. It's rude and lazy on their part. If you really believe in the crap you are selling make a personal pitch and be brave enough to accept a 'no thanks' from me. Add me to a group where you'll know I'll get spammed and me removing myself from your group without saying anything else about it is a kindness on my part because really, you don't want to hear how I feel about it.

YES!!!!!
I have a number of friends that I grew up and in-laws with that post a large amount of conservative crack pot theories, statements, and images that I have blocked. Likewise I have family members who post government cover up theories and crackpot natural remedies, etc that I have to occasionally block and other time shake my head at. Then there's those whose posts I block because they feel that everyone needs to see the ASPCA photos that make you feel guilty or squeamish.
