Do you drive? fly? how do you get there?

When going to Disney, do you leave out in the early morning? mid day? afternoon? night?

I've done both. I Drove last November for my trip (left around 9am), but the year prior I flew. (flight out of BWI in the early afternoon).

I'm planning on flying this March when I go, and booked an early morning flight so I'd have more time to play on my arrival day.

Fly! We're up in Massachusetts so it's tougher to drive than fly.. but my DH did express that he'd like to drive down there when the girls are older. I'd like that as well, so we can make all the fun stops and to see the states below NJ that I've never seen! :)

We always fly. We just don't like long drives or having to use 2 extra days of vacation time to get back and forth. We used to fly down on a Sat am but lately find it easier to fly down Fri night after work and crash at the Hyatt (cheap on Hotwire). We find it easier to stay up late than to wake up at 3 am for an early flight, even if it is to Disney.
On a Friday, I can work until 4:30 pm in Philly, go home and change clothes & gather family, head to PHL for an 8 pm flight, and be in Orlando by 10:30 pm.
We wake up well rested and ready to start our vacay in the am. No time wasted. :goodvibes :cloud9:

We drive from Ct with two little ones 7 and 5 and love it. In today's fast paced world it gives us two full (family only) days with very few distractions and all kinds of time to talk about what we want to do in Disney.

Fly--leaving as early as possible so we have a lot o fWDW time that first day.
And leave as early as possible so we have time to unpack, etc when we get home.

Last time we went in 2007 we drove. Me, DW, DD 4, dd 9 months, and DGM (is that how you do GrandMom?) Left in the afternoon, I drove through the night and got down to WDW in the morning. Did the same coming home.

This time we are flying, booked a 6:45 am flight which is now a 7:00 am flight, get to Orlando around 9:30 am. Coming home we have a 7:30 pm flight. Why pass up a whole day in Disney.

We did a price comparison on driving vs. flying. For the three of us, it turned out cheaper to fly, and since a drive would pretty much kill at least 2 days of the trip, the flight is as a much a time saver as it is a money saver. And, as a bonus, Southwest has a non-stop flight to Orlando - I've literally never had a non-stop flight from this airport before.

We will arrive about 1:00 and we have an early morning departure when we leave.

We fly from Mass. My dh has zero interest in driving, at any time. I used to book the crack of dawn flights, but have found that I just don't sleep well the night before. So, now I book mid to late morning flights out. Yes, there's more traffic heading to Logan or TF Green but at least I'm not waking up every 2 hs thinking that I've overslept!!!

We have quite a bit of flexibility and we like to drive. We live 880 miles from WDW and we’re just off Rt. 95 in Maryland. For us, if we don’t hit traffic, it’s a twelve and one-half hour drive. The traffic thing and the flexibility thing go hand in hand. For example, we would never leave home on a Friday afternoon. I like to time the trip so we don’t hit any of the major traffic tie-up areas at rush hour. We have flown down many times – always from BWI. We’ve found that if all goes well with the airline and if we have a non-stop flight, we can make it to WDW (door to door) in around six and one-half hours. Yes, I know it’s a two-hour flight, but come on, be realistic about how long it really takes. For us, the convenience of having our car down there, being able to take along liquids in 6 oz bottles, packing extra clothing, etc. (and not having to take our shoes off while having a whole body search!) is worth the extra six hours. And that doesn’t even take into account the cost factor. From where we live, I usually leave home around 9:00 am on a workday (after the Washington morning rush hour) and that usually get us to Orlando before 10:00 pm. A full day’s work. After a full night’s sleep, we are ready to go the next day. What about driving through the night? We’ve done that more than once (and this is a good option for avoiding traffic) but don’t plan on doing anything on arrival day because you will be wiped out – and hopefully the kids will not have slept through the night because they will NOT be wiped out.

My thoughts exactly. We drove when we were broke college kids but as adults with limited vacation time (and a 3 year old) we fly. We usually fly down on the last flight of the day after work and return on the last flight of the day to get the most out of our vacation. We rent a car a MCO and prefer to drive to the parks. We most frequently stay at OKW but have done WL, SSR, AKL, BW, all 3 moderates and POP.

We always fly. Sometimes we take the earliest morning flight and we're able to get to the parks between 10:30AM and 11:00AM or so. Sometimes we take the evening flight and arrive at our resort around 10:30PM so we can get an early start at the parks in the morning. I've found either way works out just fine. We're going to Orlando in Dec and leaving mid-afternoon, Not going to WDW this time, just Universal, and we'll be arriving at the hotel around 5:00PM, so we'll have a little time to hang out at the resort.

Like Granddad Tom, we normally drive from MD and used to drive from WNY. We have flown a few times in the past few years just because we got cheap airfare from BWI. We prefer to drive though - less hassle and we like having a car in FL too. If we fly, we always rent a car. When we fly, we take early morning flights there and evening flights home to maximize all our time in the World.

UNLIKE G.T. -- we often torture ourselves by leaving on Friday afternoon! Including today - LOL (3 PM departure)! (It can actually be not that bad depending on how you travel - we avoid 95 until south of Richmond, VA and have a few other "back ways" that avoid most of the traffic issues, but not all).

We used to drive straight through, even from NYS, but we're getting less tolerant of that. Tonight, we will stop for the night in SC. If we were leaving in the morning, we would definitely drive straight through though (our plans are always complicated by a visit to my SIL's on both ends of our trip - in Jacksonville and we need to maximize our time there too - for family peace!).

I go from the Saturday after Thanksgiving to the following Saturday.

My flight leaves BWI at 7:00 am and I arrive at MCO around 9:00 am.

I have two options when I depart - if I am going alone, I leave at 3:30 pm and my flight arrives at BWI at 5:45 pm.

If I go with friends, I take the later 5:30 pm flight, that lands at 7:45 pm, because I don't mind driving that late with others with me.

I get almost eight full days and I get a chance to rest up on Sunday before I have to go back to work. Add in having off for Thanksgiving and it is 11 days off total.

We live in NM, so we fly. That would make for a long drive for us. We don't want to waste time getting there. We want to get there as quickly as possible and jump right into things. Once there, we rent a car.

Do you drive? fly? how do you get there?

When going to Disney, do you leave out in the early morning? mid day? afternoon? night?

Done both -- I prefer driving, as I would much rather have the flexibility my vehicle offers versus the Disney Transportation thing.

As for the logistics of it -- I normally work a 1/2 day on Friday -- use the remaining hours of the workday to prep the car. When the wife and son come home, we then grab something to eat and drive to Arnold AFB, TN - do a cheap overnight, there and leave early, Saturday morning for WDW.
