how do you find out if they offer free dining?

If you regularly check the disboards, believe me, you'll know the first day. Other than that, there will be an advertisment on the disney website (usually Goofy holding a skillet). Plus locally there were advisments in our local newspaper every Sunday until it ended (Washington Post). It will be hard to miss. If you wait for CRO to contact you, that won't happen. We should know something in less than 3 weeks if history repeats itself.

Great. I'm going soon and would love to take advantage of this. I'll keep an eye on the disney website. thanks for your quick response.

Depending on your definition of "soon", it's likely that you won't be at Walt Disney World during the brief period that the free DDP promotion may be available.

For Guests already eligible for one of these promotions, they need to be checking in between either 8/5/07 and 9/29/07, or 8/12/07 and 9/29/07. And no, it's not possible to now become a member of either eligible group - the booking period for both promotions ended in 2006.

The free dining the past two years has been for August and September. My travel agent at AAA knows we go to WDW every year, and so I asked her to call me as soon as she hears about it, and last year she called my the beginning of April, the 4th or something. The packages go quickly. I will be curious to see if it is available this year though, a lot of people don't think it will be. I sure hope it is!!!!!!!!:wizard:

Instructions for discovering status of Free Dining 2007:

  1. Read the DISboards obsessively every single day, especially the DDP and Budget boards :surfweb:
  2. Alternate between hopeful :cutie: and discouraged :sad1: dispositions
  3. If FREE DINING is announced, party! :woohoo: :cloud9:
  4. If it it NOT, commiserate with other obsessed Disney fans :sad2: :grouphug: :sad1:

Or, well, at least that's my plan of action. :rotfl:

If you already have a reservation booked, are you still eligible for the free ddp if they offer it? We booked in 2006, triip dates 8/17-8/24. My TA said he'd adjust our booking if any deals come along, but would we automatically be eligible? TIA

I would go ahead and tell the TA that you are watching for it to be offered(came out in April last year) ;) You do not automatically get it, your TA would have to rebook your res under that special offer.

The best thing to do would be to watch the boards and if it is offered call your TA right away to see if it would apply to you. The TA can contact Disney to see what is available and rebook you if it is a better deal. You also should go ahead and figure out if it would actually save you any $$$$ or not -there were some stipulations to the "free" dining plan last year, i.e. you had to pay rack rate (no discounts) for your room, everyone in your party had to be on the same plan, you had to purchase at least a base ticket for everyone in your party, etc. Make sure that you would not actually be paying more than just adding dining to the package you have booked now!

Last year there were some other discounts besides the free dining that came out for the same time, and I think everyone decided the best deals using the free dining were for the values and maybe moderate resorts (depending on how many in your party too) - when you had to pay rack rate at the deluxes the free dining package didn't work out as well $$$ wise as taking one of the other deals that was offered.

You might have to switch resorts too if the one you are booked at has already filled their free dining available rooms by the time your TA calls, so you might have a 2nd choice ready....

:goodvibes
