how do you feel after waking up from surgery?

I've been under a lot, so I know that when I wake up, I'm still a bit tired, and can taste the anethesia in my mouth. (All normal, don't worry!) You'll probably be hungry/thirsty after since you can't eat before it, but stick to light things as you can get nauseous.

The first time I was put under (wisdom teeth removal), I woke up quite grumpy.

For my two gall bladder surgeries (yes, two) and back surgery - I had a huge pain relief. I was in so much distress before the surgeries that even with the pain from the actual surgery, I had a tremendous amount of pain relief - especially the back surgery.

With the back surgery (maybe the other two) I woke up feeling so warm and sleepy. I just wanted to sleep. They had wrapped me in heated blankets and it just felt so good, so relaxed. I didn't really want to wake up - I just wanted to sleep.

I was also put under for two D&Cs - I was so heartbroken, I don't really remember about pain and such. A broken heart hurts much worse than the associated physical pain.

I usually wake up kind of slow and groggy.

But I alway still feel 'off' for a couple of days after surgery. Sleepy/groggy and just not 'right'. It's hard to explain.

This describes me after anesthesia. It takes me quite awhile to wake up and even after I do, I'm kind of out-of-it for most of the day. I'm also really tired & groggy for a couple of days. I feel like I'm not really with it for that period of time.

It doesn't matter if I've been under for major surgery, like a hysterectomy, or for something minor, like a colonoscopy.

I've had a lot of surgeries and I generally wake up feeling just fine. No nausea or grogginess. I generally do sleep most of the day away once I am home if it is a day surgery. The exceptions would be when I had my jaw reconstructed and when I shattered my ankle bones. After the jaw I was in intensive care with tubes still stuck in me everywhere. I was very uncomfortable (not really pain, just miserable). The nurses would say "would you like more morphine" and I would just nod my head yes! By the time the eased up on the drugs the next day the tubes were removed and I was much more comfortable.

After four hours of surgery to put my leg back together, I was pretty out of it for the next day or two. I had a morphine drip that I controlled and I hit the button a lot! I did give it up a day early though because I wanted to go home. The doctor said I should keep it another day but I wanted to try just oral meds and they worked well enough that I could get out of the hospital. I hate hospitals!

Good luck with your surgery. A lap isn't bad. As others have mentioned, the worst of it is the gas that has to escape.

Any surgery I've ever had, I pretty much woke up groggy and a bit disoriented. My dd had that surgery that you're having, and she did pretty well with it. She does have endo, and may need to have the surgery done again, at some point in time.

The recovery time took longer than she expected. She thought she would have the procedure done on Friday, and go back to work on Monday....but it took her probably about two weeks to fully recover.

I wake up nauseated even with anti nausea meds. Ask about what you can do to avoid getting the gas bubbles in your shoulder. They expand your abdomen up with gas and most of it is gone when you come to but some can stay trapped. It's painful and annoying. For me it lasted a few days. Whatever they say that you can do to avoid this, listen.

I forgot to add that I was very HOT when I woke up. That's extremely unusual for me, I'm usually freezing. I was hot all night. The nurses kept putting blankets on me and I kept throwing them off. :rotfl:

I also had the same surgery a couple of years ago (and I'm probably going to have to have it again...I think the endo is back :( But that's a different story.) When I woke up, my throat was really dry and a little sore from the intubation. I felt a little groggy for the rest of the day, and a little sore where the belly button incision was. But no real pain at all. I thought I was going to feel sick to my stomach because I tend to get that way from heavy medication. But I felt fine. It just felt like a took a really great nap! It was a breeze! :thumbsup2

ETA: Yeah, I forgot about the gas in the shoulder thing...Mine wasn't too bad. But it did cause some discomfort for sure. I dont remember being told how to avoid it, just that it would likely happen.
