How do you feel about adults drinking alcohol at Disney?

What is your position on adults openly drinking alcohol while in Disney?

  • I could care less...it's their business

  • It kind of bothers me but not enough to let it affect me in any way

  • I am offended and I give dirty looks to those who do it

  • I am so offended that it keeps me from going as often as I'd like

We often have a drink with dinner at most TS restaurants we dine at. We've also grabbed a beer or two from the Germany pavilion before enjoying Illuminations.

Being that we don't operate a car at any time during our vacation, I don't see any problem at all with having a couple drinks while at WDW.

Actually, as long as they don't do something to me personally, I don't care if they drink to excess. It's really none of my business and the few times we ran into a group that "had a few too many" - usually at EMH at MK after the F&W festival, were pretty funny and congenial.

Drink all you want, I'll survive it as long as you don't get sick on a ride next to me.:)

Agreed I love having a conversation with people drinking around the world. I think they're often friendlier than the overstressed family of five!

But that's just it, that's your opinion of what "moderate alcohol consumption" is. My only point, take it or leave it, is that what people do whether it's smoking, drinking, eating a big mac, driving an SUV, ect ect ect have a "second hand effect" on society in general, and hell I do some of those things too. Just stating that smoking is banned because it has a second hand effect on others in society, when drinking does not have a second hand effect doesn't make sense. Drinking alcohol is the main cause of 10,000 deaths each year that is a second hand effect. Smoking is the main cause of 30,000 deaths each year is a second hand effect ect...lots of people I know drink a few drinks and then drive. And a few of them of have had a few drinks also have ended up with DUI's. There definition of a moderate amount was different from what another persons is.

We bring a pocket breathalyzer and never drive if we blow .05 or more, Now at WDW it's simpler because there is transportation available- we almost always stay at BC or BW anyway so we can walk back- and enjoy Jellyrolls!

I don't care what others do., however when it affects me I do. And it did However, this last week we went to the food & wine festival and I had 2 situations where other people's drinking annoyed me 1. I was standing at a spot for a while waiting for Illuminations to start. Right before it started, an older drunk couple came and the woman put her hands on me, while saying in a slurred voice "Honey, I'm going to stand here next to you". I think she was trying to balance herself to prevent falling over the railing. I couldn't stand her stinkin breath next to me. At that point, all i could do is walk away or put up with it. 2. Going back to the Dolphin after the show, we were waiting in line for the boat, a young girl was sloshed singing off key loudly. Being obnoxious while people turned & laughed. Once on the boat, when the lights were turned off, she and her group were howling, yelling, & stomping their feet. It was deafening. The boat was packed & it felt unsafe. I got off at the boardwalk & walked the rest of the way. So yes, this affected us. Their right to drink doesn't trump my right to a peaceful ride back. I will be writing a letter since those in charge of the boat said nothing and took no control of the situation. Grrrrr

As a respectful voice of dissent among the group, I don't like that you can drink at Disney. Then again, I'm an adult child of an alcoholic so that likely colors my experiences.

Please hear me though, I am not calling ANYONE that drinks at Disney an alcoholic!

In my experience, it was much easier for my dad to get trashed and make our lives miserable at EPCOT because he could get served all day, versus our day at the Magic Kingdom, where he couldn't get wasted and was therefore a much more pleasant human to be around.

Granted, it's probably punishing the majority to keep the minority in line, but I would *prefer* that alcohol not be available in a family freiendly park. Alcohol can lead to some very family UNfriendly behaviors, especially if you're already suffering an addiction

I've been going to Disney fairly regularly since 2004. Only one time during a trip on a Friday night in Epcot did I notice public drunkedness. I didn't like it. It doesn't bother me to see people consume alcohol, but I don't like seeing drunk people. You expect drunk people when you tailgate, not when walking around Epcot.

I think this discussion would be much more fun over a spiked Dole Whip. Say 5:00 tomorrow evening everyone?;)

Anybody else try riding mission space orange after three tipsy ducks? It was an experience...

It's amazing how that glow cube can modify an adults mood and make us into excited little kids (even more so than being at DW)! :rotfl2:

I totally agree with this. I bring my glow cubes home and use them even when drinking water. Glow cubes make me stupidly happy, no matter what's in the glass.

MANY years ago, my family was staying at the Ritz Carlton in Naples, FL during one of my father's business conferences. My older sister 15, younger sister (6) and I (12) were sitting on a sofa in a sitting area outside of the conference/ballroom waiting for our parents to come and get us for dinner (we weren't invited to whatever was happening in the ballroom pre-dinner...I think it was a private performance from BB King).

This drunk guy comes staggering out of the conference room and proceeds to hit on my older sister in a very overt and non-Dis friendly was. She was mortified and told him "No thank you." He looked over at me (as I was enjoying a coloring book and my crayons) and leered "how bout you?" I rolled my eyes and said "Ewww no."

Luckily my mom came up just then and he moved on.

Just saying that type of behavior can happen at even the classiest, swankiest of places.

I had it happen to me back when I was 15ish at a Disney World resort. It was a family vacation and my siblings and I each brought a friend. We were all teens (15-16) and went to the hot tub one night. A group of men decided there was nothing wrong with getting in a hot tub and hitting on teen girls. Ugh, we were so grossed out. The super funny part was the next morning when we showed up to wait for a park bus and there they were with their wives and kids. Its safe to say they looked very nervous and embarrassed the whole time.

That being said, I'm pro drinking at Disney. I'm always the driver at home and I like being able to have that second margarita or beer flight.
I've seen plenty of poor behavior (loud, obnoxious, rude) from park goers who seem perfectly sober.

The alcoholics just need to control themselves or stay home then.

Wow...ok. I'll be sure to tell an addict to "just control himself."

also, *please* read my post again. I wan't trying to be rude, short, or snippy to anyone, and I am NOTcalling anyone who drinks at the world an alcoholic.

ALL that I'm saying is that I would *prefer* that alcoholic drinks not be served. You would prefer they would. Luckly for you, THEY ARE!:cool1:

This post specifically asked for opinions, I gave mine. Sorry that we don't agree.

I am also an adult child of an alcoholic. I don't like that you can drink there, either, but I don't get to make the rules. So if we run into someone that is obnoxiously drunk (and regardless of what some think, there are A LOT of obnoxious drunks), we move to a different area.

Thank god I never had to go to Disney with my father.

I voted that I COULDN'T care less. That implies that I don't care at all, because I could not care any less. If I could care less, then it means that I care. Which I don't. Drink up!

Personally, I *could* do with a few fewer rowdy drunks in World Showcase making public nuisances of themselves (they're probably the same ones who come on forums saying how much they entertain other people and make the atmosphere happier for everyone).

But I *know* Disney's not going to invest the extra money in more security personnel to chuck disorderly drinkers out unless their behavior gets to be pretty extreme (e.g. physical violence or breaking things).

It's too bad there's not something they can do to the Magic Band to make people space their drinks out. But someone would probably find a way around it.

I'm am one of the drinkers who loves to drink while at WDW. Epcot is my favorite park for this reason, as we like to "drink around the world".

I'm on vacation and if I want a drink at 11 in the morning, I'm going to have one.

As long as I'm not throwing up, spilling my drink on you, (which at the prices I am paying for them, I would probably try to lick it off of you:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:), falling down, yelling, screaming or ruining your day, leave me alone.

I agree. The past two times I was there with my children it was during Food and Wine, and Flower and Garden. There were a few obnoxious groups then. One of which was a bachelorette party where the bride to be was falling down drunk. At 2 in the afternoon. :rolleyes2
I do enjoy having a Grey Goose Slush or frozen margarita in WS, but I hate the frat party atmosphere.

The definition of an alcoholic is they *can't* control themselves.
Also a child of an alcoholic here.

No, they can't (or won't.)

And chances are, if the park didn't serve alcohol, the alcoholic would figure out a way to bring it in. I know my parent would have. Heck, my parent did, for other events, so Disney wouldn't have been any different.

Disney serving or not serving alcohol would of had no effect on the drinking. Well, other than the fact that I would been asked to help smuggle it in, if they didn't serve it.

No response. Neither of my options was listed: "I couldn't care less" or, lacking that, "Otger - because there always has to be an 'other'".
