How do you feel about adults drinking alcohol at Disney?

What is your position on adults openly drinking alcohol while in Disney?

  • I could care less...it's their business

  • It kind of bothers me but not enough to let it affect me in any way

  • I am offended and I give dirty looks to those who do it

  • I am so offended that it keeps me from going as often as I'd like

I would think that a large part of the reason that smoking in public is frowned upon is the health effect it has on other people. You're not going to get second-hand health issues from someone else's alcohol consumption, but you can be exposed to second-hand smoke.

But, if it turns out that alcohol, like trans-fats, refined sugar and other small molecules that we consume, is toxic, causing chronic diseases...as is becoming a more prevalent view in the health care community, then it does affect all of us through rising health care costs...just like smoking and obesity.

:lmao:

Can I interest you in some real estate on the moon?

Not me! But you probably could have sold it back in the 1960's...you know, when smoking was cool.

"U.S. reveals secret plans for '60s moon base. "

The U.S. military races to the moon to build a base -- to beat the Russians to the punch. Maybe test a nuclear weapon on the surface. Consider a lunar-based bombing system to target earthbound foes.

That was the plan in the 1960s, according to declassified national security documents released this week -- some of them stamped as "SECRET."

No one wants to own up to choosing this:

I am offended and I give dirty looks to those who do it

It seems that 7 people feel that way. I'm just curious as to why . . .

I'm assuming anyone who would be opposed to an adult having an alcoholic beverage on vacation at Disney must be someone who abstains from alcohol completely. I can understand that choice and respect it.

However, I cannot understand how or why they would be "offended" by the sight of an adult consuming a drink. And I especially cannot fathom giving said adult a "dirty look" in some sort of attempt to shame them. :confused3

My daughter chose to be a vegetarian, but she isn't offended and doesn't respond with rudeness when the rest of us eat meat.

I've got no problem with it at all. I'm kinda nervous about my upcoming trip though....I haven't had a lock of alcohol in 3 months (crazy diet) but I will be trying a spiked dole whip next week. I hope one drink doesn't cause me to be falling down!

We always drink: A Big Bamboo in Yak and Yeti; a Guinness @ UK Pavilion; a Space Monkey @ Sci Fi. These are just some of my favorites.

And I know there were times where I drank too much! Not because I fell down or puked on anyone...but because my wallet was empty! :)

Just stating that there are second hand effects from what others choose to do that's all. Not looking to start a debate. Quite a few people who have a "few" drinks get into vehicles. That's all I was saying.

That's still completely different from comparing it to smoking ... and (imo) wouldn't be "moderate alcohol consumption" during your typical park day, which is what the other poster alluded to.

Have it with a turkey leg and you should be fine ;)

But that's just it, that's your opinion of what "moderate alcohol consumption" is. My only point, take it or leave it, is that what people do whether it's smoking, drinking, eating a big mac, driving an SUV, ect ect ect have a "second hand effect" on society in general, and hell I do some of those things too. Just stating that smoking is banned because it has a second hand effect on others in society, when drinking does not have a second hand effect doesn't make sense. Drinking alcohol is the main cause of 10,000 deaths each year that is a second hand effect. Smoking is the main cause of 30,000 deaths each year is a second hand effect ect...lots of people I know drink a few drinks and then drive. And a few of them of have had a few drinks also have ended up with DUI's. There definition of a moderate amount was different from what another persons is.

I don't mind it if adults have a drink here or there, as long as they are not obnoxiously drunk. The one time I was seriously disgusted at Disney is when we stayed at CSR. We were walking past the outdoor bar area and these men were learing at my 11 year old DD. ELEVEN!! They were clearly impaired. We will never stay there again for that reason. It was a large group of men, I'm guessing a conference. It has kept me away from conference resorts since then, just a different vibe.
When was that, if you don't mind me asking? The conference resorts can have a different feel. Back in the 97/98 time frame, in my pre-children, still had to grow up a bit, working for a consulting firm days I had a conference at CSR. This was before they closed all the nightclubs at Pleasure Island. I travelled with guys that liked to party. I hate to admit I had a very un-Disney-like night that trip that I wasn't proud of the next day. Yes, we were probably loud, and we did swim in a pool at CSR in the wee hours, but I don't think we leered at any 11 year olds or were sloppy drunk to the point of offending anyone. That said, that night we were probably the poster children for the 'they shouldn't let people drink at WDW' crowd!

Actually, I always thought the Pleasure Island night club scene was a little out of place in WDW. The behavior me and my cohorts displayed would have been perfectly appropriate in a place like Vegas, but wasn't something I'd expect to see (or have ever done again) at WDW.

On drinking in general at WDW, I'm for it, and expect people to act like mature, responsible adults, which for the most part people do. It's nice staying at an Epcot or monorail resort, or using WDW transportation, and being able to enjoy a couple of drinks knowing you don't have to drive anywhere. There are also a lot of places throughout WDW that allow you to try different drinks, which is nice.

If you want to have a drink at WDW, I don't care.

If you're loud, obnoxious, inappropriate or otherwise preventing me from having an enjoyable vacation because you're drunk, then I care. And then I get irritated.

What's a Big Bamboo? The Safari Amber (brewed exclusively for AK) goes down very easy!

Actually, as long as they don't do something to me personally, I don't care if they drink to excess. It's really none of my business and the few times we ran into a group that "had a few too many" - usually at EMH at MK after the F&W festival, were pretty funny and congenial.

Drink all you want, I'll survive it as long as you don't get sick on a ride next to me.:)

I can't drink (I'm on dialysis) but even when I could I didn't there. I am more concerned with hydrating myself in that heat and humidity, alcohol has the opposite effect. I am also not a huge drinker. I was a nice glass of wine with dinner type person. Never got into the hard liquors or even much beer.

I'll probably try a few drinks on my upcoming trip with DS (almost 3) in December. What everyone else does in his or her life is none of my business. I do get annoyed when someone gets loud or obnoxious whilst drinking, but this happens everywhere. People need to realize that WDW vacations are for kids of every age and if someone judges me for drinking there then that is also none of my business. I could care less what people think of me. I'm responsible and a great mother and would never do anything to endanger or embarrass my son or myself at WDW or anywhere else for that matter. If someone gives me a dirty look for drinking then I doubt I'll even notice.

MANY years ago, my family was staying at the Ritz Carlton in Naples, FL during one of my father's business conferences. My older sister 15, younger sister (6) and I (12) were sitting on a sofa in a sitting area outside of the conference/ballroom waiting for our parents to come and get us for dinner (we weren't invited to whatever was happening in the ballroom pre-dinner...I think it was a private performance from BB King).

This drunk guy comes staggering out of the conference room and proceeds to hit on my older sister in a very overt and non-Dis friendly was. She was mortified and told him "No thank you." He looked over at me (as I was enjoying a coloring book and my crayons) and leered "how bout you?" I rolled my eyes and said "Ewww no."

Luckily my mom came up just then and he moved on.

Just saying that type of behavior can happen at even the classiest, swankiest of places.

I have zero interest in being around drunks. No I don't find them amusing at all. Now casual drinkers, I have no problem with at all.

It only bothers me that others get to enjoy while I must abstain until after I have the baby.;)

I have so much empathy for you, having been pregnant twice at WDW. Once during food and wine fest.

Honestly, the truly bad behavior I see involves crappy parenting, not alcohol consumption. I'm not saying others haven't seen the horrible drunks. But I'd rather see someone who's lit and at least trying to have a good time than someone bullying their kids or letting them act like beasts. And when the bickering among my kids gets to be too much, a beverage with liquor and a glow cube can work wonders on my mood.

It's amazing how that glow cube can modify an adults mood and make us into excited little kids (even more so than being at DW)! :rotfl2:
