How do you explain it to people?

The key is to only surround yourself by other disney freaks! Then you never have to explain it!

You know, even some of the naysayers are closet disney freaks. We are just far more vocal, and proud of it.

When people ask me why, I always reply: "I don't drink, don't smoke, or do drugs. So I have to put all my efforts into my vice in life: DISNEY!!!":worship:

I go so much, people just shake their heads and laugh:rolleyes1 Do I care, NO! I am always scheming to go even more than I go now. Everytime I go, my brother always says, "there ain't that much mouse in the world!" Yes, there is. I think Disney should expand on a large scale, and call it Disney Universe.

Personally, I just don't get that other people don't get Disney.:confused3

I 'm married to a non-believer:scared1:
IMO- you can't explain it- it just is:cloud9:
kind of like LOVE:lovestruc
btw- I go w/o him.... I'm lucky I have other family members who get IT

I blame it on the kids. Say my DS and DD can't get enough! ;)

Will need to come up with some new excuses in a few years when they go off to college.

It's the fact that when you're their the real world doesn't exist. There is no reality, there's only fantasy. If that doesn't work I tell them it's genetic. My dad has had a tattoo of Flower the skunk for 50 years.

I think it's a matter of people just don't get it. They are probably too serious in their life. For me, I go because it is a escape from reality. You feel great and you can act like a kid no matter how old you are. It's also that you are treated respectfully by the cast members as well. You're not being yelled at by bosses or co-workers.

When I'm there, apart of me wishes that I could have this feeling all my life. It kind of gives that kick in the rear end to improve on professional and personal basis. It just gives you a good feeling. I dred when our vacation ends. I get very bummed. However, it also makes me look foward to the next one. We don't go every year, but we always follow whats going on and are just Disney geeks! Trust me, if we had more money, we would definetely be apart of DVC!

We don't tell them. :rolleyes1 We have two types of people in our extended relatives (as my husband calls it)...

the pro-Mouse :dance3::yay::woohoo: Yea for you oh that's so awesome when are you going oh I have vacation time coming up wouldn't be awesome if we could go TOGETHER I just booked and we're staying at the same place so let's get dining ADRs at the same place and tour the same and.....

and the

anti-Mouse :confused3:eek::sick: Why are you going there again why aren't you coming to visit us instead we get to see you so little and you should spend all your vacation time with us and why are you buying into the corporate media that is Disney don't you know that they are evil and against women and .....

So we have learned that it's just better to say we're going on vacation, we're not sure where we're going, and we're just going to have fun... We have peace from all sides!!!

:lmao::rotfl::hippie:

For us, our Disney trips ARE the best kept Disney secret!!!

Actually what we could tell them is we are going to any one of the countries in Epcot. So they can be like "Oh you're going to Germany. Thats a really nice place!!" But Inside you'll be smiling knowing you fooled them once again!!:lmao:

No you won't. My oldest just started college last month...and she and her boyfriend (also a college student) are very involved in the planning of next year's trip. The high school senior trip was to Disney, They can't wait to get back either. August... August... August... (can I wish it here any faster??)

I don't think you can. You either get it or you don't.

:thumbsup2 exactly...even DH didn't "get" it until he was there...and I don't think he would have really understood except for her got to see the magic through the eyes of a child!!

I stopped explaining years ago. I don't care at all who "gets" it and who doesn't. My family loves DisneyWorld and that's all I care about.

Enjoy The Magic!!

I like some of these responses. Most people are satisfied when I say that the kids and I love Disney World and I smile the whole time I am there. I don't bother with anyone who isn't happy with that answer lol.

It's true that people either "get it" or they don't. I wish more people didn't "get it". Then maybe I'd be able to get a LeCellier ADR lol!!

I stopped telling people.
I used to say we wouldn't come back if we didn't have to.
However, eventually they will just write you off as a crazy and not be so amazed.

every once in a while, I get in an esoteric and a little snarky mood. I think about the look in each of my children's eyes as they discover something new, taste a new taste, feel their stomach lurch a little on a ride, then I look at them as serious and philisophical as possible and say:

Disney is a place where reality is on the edge of being suspended and you can peer over the precipice and believe that the impossible has a chance of being real.

Then they give me that you are soooo weird look that makes me laugh.

How do you explain to friends & acquaintances that ask you why you keep going back to WDW? I had a conversation with several girlfriends the other night who asked and I couldn't put into a few words. Do you have any suggestions on a simple way to explain to people that think you’re crazy?

"Disney; For those who get it, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation will do."

I remember my 1st visit to Disney. I was 31 and not terribly thrilled to be going. I was in a pissy mood getting to the Magic Kingdom and was convinced I would have an awful time. Walking into Main Street, I noticed how clean everything was - but I was still going to have a terrible day. Half way up Main St, I smelled the cookies and could hear music. It really was very pretty, but I was probably going to have a terrible day. At the end of Main Street I looked up at the Castle in the bright sunshine and began to think it might be an okay day, but there wouldn't be anything for an adult to do. After seeing a couple in their 60's getting off Snow White, I figured I would give the place a chance. After flying over London in Peter Pan and waving hello to Nana by her doghouse, I was hooked. For the rest of the day my eyes must have looked like Mr. Toad's after he was run over by the motor car. Can't explain it - but Disney has made such a deep emotional connection that continues to this day.

Best moment to explain it: In '96 was there for the 25th. Waiting for the Anniversary parade to begin, we were standing next to a lovely little girl and her mother. The girl kept asking if there was a chance she could see Cinderella in the parade because she was her favorite. The mother kept telling her that if she was - she would hold her up so she could see her. Well - the parade started and after a few minutes along comes the float with of all people - Cinderalla on it. It stops right in front of us. The CMs and Cinderella come out to pick people to join them in the parade. Cinderella comes over to this sweet little girl who had only hoped to see Cinderella and takes her by the hand. I will never, ever forget to look of joy and wonder on that little girl's face, or the tears of joy running down her mother's face. I'm actually tearing up as I type this - remembering again that moment. It's a sweet magic that exists in Disney Parks that I keep going back again and again to savor.

I have gotten the question asked of us a lot lately....seeing how in a couple of weeks we will be there for the 3rd time in less than a year...
Generally people tend to go tothe same type places every vacation....like the beach or the mountains (that is my observation around here anyway). I just throw the question back at them. One guy in particular that I work with is constantly asking me why we keep going back....well, they go to the same beach every year for vacation so I ask him why they keep going back.

Hit post way too quick LOL!

The magic...there is just no where else I can imagine going and feeling the magic.

wlgiv...love the story you told...I teared up just thinking about it. I will never forget DD's 1st time seeing the princesses...she was in awe that she was meeting THE PRINCESSES! And then in April Jessie walked by and gave her a high five....she was thrilled and we actually caught her face on video...I tear up every time I see it!

Now I'm tearing up! :lovestruc No fear, though, this happens all the time when it comes to the Disney magic.

Last trip, I cried during the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party because of the little kids dancing with the characters. I cried during the Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade. I cried during Wishes. I cried during the High School Musical street party in DHS (cast members selected a young girl in a wheelchair, who I believe was mentally handicapped, to be in the show). I about cried during Festival of the Lion King. And I was so thrilled to see my friend, who had never been there before, react to everything surrounding her.

It's impossible to explain. You either understand, or you don't--we're fortunate there are so many us who do.

December will be DBF's first visit to WDW, and even though he's never been there, and I know he doesn't fully "get it" yet, he knows how much WDW means to me, and will ask about my memories, and watch the planning DVD EVERY saturday and sunday morning with me, and bring up WDW any time I have a long day at work or get stressed about something. (This is one of the billions of reasons I love him)

One of the things I'm most excited about is seeing DBF's reaction to EVERYTHING. (Soarin', WSC, CSR, Wishes, and soooo much more) I can't wait to make new memories with him (especially since this will be my first time seeing WDW at Christmastime)

I really think people either "get it" or don't, whether they've been there or not. Thankfully we have the Dis to surround ourselves with others that "get it". :grouphug:
