How do you entertain your kids while in line?

We point and laugh at the other people in line.

I'm concerned about the wait before getting in and then long line times during park visits. I would hand over my phone but I use it to take pictures and figure out the day (plus communicate with other members of the group) and I remember last time in Disneyland the battery was toast before lunch. How do you keep your kids occupied in line?

I have been going to the parks for years and have never brought anything to entertain my kids. Last year when we went the only time my 16 Month old DGD was fussy was in a restaurant for dinner and then I would just show her the pictures the videos of herself that day. There is so much to see and talk about while you are there that usually keeps them content.

If you have an iPhone, the game "heads up" is great. My kids love it!

Having spent many hours on subways, we like to play the alphabet game. Pick a subject "food" or "cities" , etc and then go around starting with a. Ie. apple, banana, cupcake.

If you don't mind bringing a small tablet, you can keep a journal and rate the previous ride or experience.

Hope you don't have to wait in too many lines!

We just talk, too. About past trips, what to do next, what we're going to experience, where or what to eat, etc. Whatever makes them feel they are part of the trip. We've never provided "extras" to entertain them. And they both were there from age 1 on up.

Mine are teenagers so they txt and play games on there phones. They also play on there nintedo ds. They like to see where people are from. When they were little we play cards in line.

We are of the thought that we are at Disney, there is plenty to see and do and if you can't be patient enough to stand in line maybe we don't need to be there.

I clicked on the second page of this thread, curious to see if it had already devolved into people describing the otherworldly perfection of their own familial bond, making rude, judgey comments about other families, and questioning whether others even meet the poster's criteria for being deserving of WDW.

And the very first one on the top of the page! Bingo!

Nothing special. The fact that the line leads to something FUN usually means even squirmy preschoolers are able to tolerate waiting longer than normal. It's not like you're in the checkout line at Target or waiting at the post office. If our son starts to get a little antsy, we talk about what we've enjoyed so far that day and what we'd like to do later. Using a good touring plan helps, too. We haven't waited longer than 25 minutes on any of our recent trips thanks to rope drop (he is an early riser, so we are by default) and judicious use of FP. When all else fails, offer snacks.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but we seriously don't wait in long lines. I don't think I've waited more than 10 minutes for anything. Most things are 3 or 4 minutes which consists of mostly walking through the Queue.

I use touringplans.com , we book FP, (or used paper tickets in the past), get there 15 minutes or so before rope drop and we don't experience lines- hence no boredom.

There was another thread on this recently, and someone mentioned pipe cleaners or little kids, string games and clapping games.

We just talk. Reliving funny stories from past trips - my kids particularly enjoy sometimes hearing stories about trips they were on before they were old enough to remember. We also discuss the ride we are about to go on, what we plan to do the rest of the day, etc.. Just whatever topic naturally comes up. Sometimes hidden Mickeys, trivia, random thoughts and facts. Most queue areas are done well and provide some natural talking points.

This.
