How do you donate nights to an auction event?

This thread came about from another conversation on another thread.

Our local private high school holds a fund-raising auction each year. We thought about donating two nights during Spring Break. How do we donate two nights for an auction?

Our guide did this for an auction, and I tried to reach him, but he was not available. Has anyone else ever done this? Any tips? Any ideas?

I used to donate a week, Sun - Fri to my daughters school for the auction. I made a nice poster board up and made in contingent on availability. the winner would have to give you a group of dates and you would make the reservation in their name. Actually one of the families that ended up going bought a DVC membership.
The bids were always around $ 1500.

Just be sure to list any limitations (have them give 1st ,2nd and 3rd choices for dates- unless you want to reserve specific dtaes in advance). Make sure to note- based on availabilitity- and any other limits you want (no weekend nights).

I gave a five nights (Sun-Fri) stay at an OKW studio to my son's school auction for a number of years. I always gave a range of dates, exclude holidays, and Sunday thru Friday. Only one year(1999, last free ticket year) I pre-booked a week and said other weeks subjet to availability. I always call the winner right after the auction and told them to book ASAP to get their week. In 1999, they went with my week, but every other year they got their first choice. I never had any problem. And the tax deduction covers a nice chunk of the maintenance fees.

We have given a sun-Fri stay at an OKW studio to our son's school too. We put the limitations about dates etc on it, and the hight bidder had to contact us and make ressies that way. Our school combined it with some donated free airline tickets, and turned it into a major auction prize. It did get a little hairy trying to get the OKW room and the free tickets to match dates, but it was all worked out. I think the winners got the four airline tickets and the five nights for $3500. A good deal for them and the school as well!

A well as the manner described by others for planned auctions, I have also donated ressies that I was unable to use with points that I'd lose because my use year ended within 30 days. The non-profit I work for has auctioned them and used them as perks in a staff drawing, allowing for the short time line. This was much better than having them go unused or disappear.
