How do you "decorate" this time of year?

I don't mean your overall decorating style - I mean those types of things that you switch out from season to season (or holiday to holiday).

From October to the New Year - I switch out my diningroom tablecloth and runner, my bathroom and kitchen towels, door hangings, etc to reflect the appropriate holiday. The oversized glass bowl on my coffee table goes from holding mini-pumpkins to pinecones, etc.

During the spring and summer I have a seashore/nautical theme going on.

But I'm always unsure about how to decorate for the first few months of the year. :confused3

My Christmas stuff will be gone this weekend and it just doesn't seem the right time to "beach up" my house.

For those of you who switch things up seasonally, what do you do during this time of the year?

I have my snowmen themed decorations out until Valentines day.

Thats what I do too. I have several snowmen that were originally part of my Christmas decorations. I just have too many now, so all the snowmen are put out when the Christmas decorations go back into storage.

After a little while it will change to things for Valentines and then to St. Patrick's Day and Easter/Spring. The things for Valentines and St. Patrick's Day are usually just little what-nots and candles I pick up at the Dollar Store.

I would like to do a wreath for each season. I have fall and Christmas, but want to take plain evergreen wreaths and attach glittery and blue snowflakes to one, one with hearts, one with shamrocks and then one with bunnies and flowers for spring and the beach things for summer. I have the wreaths but always just get too busy to make them.

I have glass icicles hanging in my windows and I have a few snowmen up. :)

I stay pretty much the same, but I do have some things that I bring out from season to season, like a set of Mickey head Valentine's candleholders, stuff like that. No larger theme changes, though.

Everyone's ideas sound cool. Personally, I like to put a non red and green wreath on my door typically one that has shimmering icicle like effects in barren tree hues and a Snowman mini flag. For Valentines Day I will put out some cute hearts here and there and a mini flag. I just found some lights to put on my porch this year so:cool1:. After Valentines I put the winter wreath back up until St Paddys Day and then out come the Four leaf clovers. Then they go back and its the winter theme again, then Easter, then winter until finally it's spring:goodvibes

I stick with wintery stuff - which means some of the holiday decor stays out because it's more snowman than Christmas.

I agree with the snowman theme. The few things I have like that stay up until March 1st, as does my village. I have half my village on top of the piano and the other half on top of the roll-top desk.

We have 20+ Christmas trees, plus numerous collections, up between Thanksgivng and New Years....so I LOVE January when there is no special decor. That's one way to make your house look bigger - put a bunch of trees in your house - then take them down!

I leave my snowman/snowflake type decorations out through the end of February. I have a few Valentines Day pieces that go out now as well. I leave my Evergreen wreath on the front door but I take down the rest of my outside decorations. I leave my Poinsettia stuff and winter berry stuff out throug the winter months too for some color. I never understood why everyone takes EVERYTHING down for the winter....most of the Christmas stuff is more winter themed to me than Christmas. It's too depressing to take it all down and way too early for the spring stuff!

I put my Easter/Spring items out the first week of March unless Easter is really early. Then I do it in late February.

I also use the snowman theme....just wish I didn't live where there are real snowmen. LOL

I only put away the Santa's, ornaments and stocking stuff after Christmas. I have an evergreen initial wreath on the front door that will stay up through winter. I also keep my evergreens (with berries & pinecones) and winter berry stuff up in the house too. My snowmen are here and there throughout the house. That stuff to me is winter and not really just Christmas decor and the red berries go with the Valentines red theme. If it were up to dh he'd pack everything up after Christmas and just have the house look the same all the time.

I put away the Christmas stuff and leave out the snowmen until late January until I put out the normal everyday stuff until next year. I do however put out little things for Valentine's day. St. Patrick's Day, Easter, 4th of July, and Halloween.

I kind fo run with snowflakes. I have a snowflakes tablecloth on my dining room table, a snowflake flag outside, that sort of thing.
Come February I start Valentine's Day, then M<arch is St.Patrick's Day, April is easter, May/June is Spring/Summer...flowers, my garden angel goes out, July is Independence day, August is summer...watermelons, sailboats, September is apples/fall/harvet, October Halloween, November Thanksgiving, and here we are back at Christmas again!

Maybe I need to start collecting Snowmen - it seems to be the most seamless way to blend from Christmas to plain 'ole winter :goodvibes

Most of my Christmas decorations are "christmas-y" and not "winter-y". I think I'll take down all of the Christmas stuff, put back all of my "beachy" things, but keep out some of the winter themed things out (berries and pinecones, etc.)

I don't normally decorate for St. Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day or Easter - but I might take a cue from on the PP's and pick up a few things at the Dollar Store or Target's Dollar Spot for each of those holidays.

I also like the idea of having a wreath for the smaller holidays - I just might try that.

The PP who spoke about how HUGE the rooms look after taking down the tree and all of the decorations is totally right - I can't believe how roomy everything looks:)

Thanks for the input - I appreciate it ;)
