how do you conquer your laundry & ironing?

In our house, it's hubby and me, and our 18yoDD. She does her own laundry (well, actually she almost never does any laundry, but that's another story...the point is, I don't do hers), and I do mine and hubby's. I work part time at home (teaching piano lessons). I have one designated laundry day during the week. I usually do 5 loads on that day - whites, cold water darks, cold water lights, hubby's work jeans, and regular colors. I do sheets one other week day, and towels a couple of times a week.

I try my best to always fold and put away the laundry as soon as it comes out of the dryer. Most of the time I do pretty good with this - every once in a while a load will sit in there for a day or two until I remember it's there!

dh has his dress shirts laundered at the cleaners, so no ironing there. other than that, he irons what he needs, I iron what I need, but honestly I'm a sahm and he mostly works from home so not a lot of ironing needed.

I have three hampers set up in the upstairs hall closet...one for dark, one for lights/whites and one for towels. When one gets full, it's time to throw a load in (this time of year the dark hamper fills every day since DH wears multiple layers of clothes) I estimate I do about 13 - 14 loads of laundry total each week ~ we are a family of 5.

I do the ironing as needed....I hate ironing and can't be bothered to spend a couple of hours doing it all at once. Most of DH's clothes don't need ironing and I usually just do a quick press on my jeans since I hang those to dry, they get a little wrinkled looking. The girls don't have many outfits that need ironing....only occasionally when weraing a dressier outfit.

One of the best things dh ever did for me was to start taking his shirts to the dry cleaners. They starch them just the way he likes them and I don't have to iron.
I do laundry on Mondays and Tuesdays. What doesn't get done I finish on Wednesday. I buy clothes for the kids and I that don't have to be ironed, except for an occasional outfit that one of us might wear for a special occassion.
I take clothes out of the dryer right after it buzzes and put them on hangers so they don't have time to get wrinkly.
Exactly. When I had a laundry room I put a shower curtain rod so that as soon as the dryer buzzed, stuff got hung up. And I don't care who says what, taking DH's stuff to the cleaners is worth every red cent. I hate ironing.

I just do it when we start running out of clothes.....as far as ironing...no thanks LOL..I never iron anything..in fact i don't even own an iron!!

I am very particular when it comes to laundry. Rarely is anything (besides socks and towels and sheets) put into the dryer to dry. Everything is eventually run thru the dryer on just air to remove lint and fluff and soften things up, but not with any heat. Heat will shrink clothes and set stains if I've missed them.

I wash everything and hang it indoors on a clothing rack on hangers to dry. The type that you see in department stores. I fold down pockets perfectly as well as cuffs and stuff like that, so nothing is ever flipping up (various cargo pants, etc...).

Nothing ever needs ironed around here. If hubby needed shirts pressed, I would have them done professionally, but that's not the case in our family.

We have MANY items that I wash alone too. I won't mix anything together. I would never wash a white top say with a white pair of socks as it would fuzz the shirt up. Most camisole and such are washed in the machine on the hand wash cycle and mostly, it's only 1 camisole at a time as I won't mix colors either. Sweaters are another thing that are always washed on at least delicate (sometimes hand wash cycle) and with nothing else.

One thing I do is, I make my daughter wear her clothing a couple or sometimes a few times (depending on what she wore) before I'll wash it too. She's not doing anything physical and she changes upon returning from school. It really makes clothing last a lot longer and really cuts down on laundry.

I too do it daily or I'd get so far behind and I don't have enough hangers for every piece of clothing in this house. I fold my son's clothing, but mine and my daughters (a few of hubby's shirts) always remain on hangers.

I generally do my laundry on the weekends. I wear scrubs to work so that helps. And I dont do iorning until im gonna wear something.
