How do you clean your shower curtain?

We put ours in the washer and just washed it on cold, but it got shredded. DH refuses to take it out back and shoot it with the hose. What do you do?

I buy a new one too. We have a nice fabric one on the outside, and I just use a liner on the inside and replace it a couple times a year.

Me too. I buy a cheap liner at Linens and Things and when it gets scuzzy I buy a new one. The nice one never gets icky because of the liner behind it.

I have washed them in the washing machine. You need to add a couple towels to help with scrubbing.

But to be honest, I just buy a new one too. They are so cheap at WalMart that I keep an extra on hand.

It's easier than washing it, trying to rinse it off, then dripping on the way back to the tub.

I've washed mine in the washing machine lots of times and its always been fine. It even says on the little tag that its machine washable.

I wash mine in the washer, when it starts to fall apart I get a new one.

We have a glass door now, but when we had a curtain we would always just throw it out and buy a new one.

I wash shower liners in the washer until they begin to get stiff and crack then I just replace them.

DH usually takes it outside and scrubs it. :) We do that a few times then by a new one...they get gakky so fast even if you scrub them regularly. Ick.

I've always been able to wash mine at least once. I also buy the cheap liners for the inside, but they still should hold up for at least one wash.

Try the antibacterial shower curtain liners! I love them! :D They are made of a heavier plastic, don't need cleaning and last a long long time. I got mine from Wal-mart. It's inexpensive --- maybe $12 or so. I forget. But it's worth every penny.

I think I got a new one after about a year. I guess the antibacterial components break down some after that long. It didn't look bad, just not brand new as it did for so long.

I wouldn't get any other kind now!

OK, here is the deal, we used to just throw the liner away and get a now one, but we just bought the "Scattered Mickey" curtain as our "outside the tub" one and it's clear. Both the Mickey and the liner have this powder residue on them that you don't notice unless you have 2 clear curtains. We've tried just washing them with a paper towel and some cleaner but that doesn't work, I washed the liner and shredded it in the washer, bought a new liner, and still don't know what to do with the residue on the curtains. Maybe I'll give the washer another try, this time on the gentle setting.
Thanks everyone!

Ahhh yes.....Vinegar...works great, especially on ceramic tile floors & on tablecloth stains! Miracle stuff (I just don't ingest it anymore, it's stored with my cleaning products now!) :teeth:

I haven't seen this yet. Now, I used to take down the liner but couldn't be bothered anymore. Instead, I fill a bucket with hot soapy water and a little ammonia, hold it at chest level, and scrunch the bottom 3/4's into the bucket. Then, I scrub it in the bucket.
