We book our resort room through WDW reservations.
We book our own plane reservations on JetBlue.
We pay for our food out of pocket.
We own & piad for our 10-day park hopper tickets.

So who would we get travel insurance through ?
Jet Blue for our plane fare (anout $2000) ?
WDW would be for our room deposit (only $200) ?

Does travel insurance include if you get sick (such as cancer) and can not travel ?

We have never bought travel insurance.
Please help.

Travel insurance only will cover what you can't get back. If you have a room-only reservation, then the only time your deposit is at risk if you cancel less than 7 days before your scheduled arrival. As far as I know travel insurance would not pay for your tickets, which are still good and have value even if you cancel, and you won't have any OOP for food. It would pay for any penalties associated with cancelling your airfare.

Reasons for cancellation covered will vary by policy.

I personally would not purchase travel insurance under the scenario you outline. We generally buy only for international travel or in cases where there are large non-recoverable costs.

I usually buy trip insurance only for cruises or international trips, but not for WDW trips. I get it from the Trip Insurance Store: www.tripinsurancestore.com.

Whether insurance covers a trip cancelled due to sickness depends on if it's a pre-existing condition and when you bought the policy.

Thank you. So far I am cancer free. Just some abnormal cells found last year.
They were removed in a biopsy.
My mamo this year will tell me if everything is OK. I am hoping for the best.

Maybe we will check into travel insurance for our plane fare. I can check with JetBlue on their policy too.

Thanks!

We've used TravelGuard with success. They paid a claim when my wife got sick and no questions asked. Check out their site and look at the various levels of insurance you can buy. Take the time to read the fine print. It's not too complicated and pretty clear on what they cover. Don't assume that if you have insurance everything is covered. There can be exclusions.

I would typically never buy domestic travel insurance unless I had no other medical insurance.

The reason I say this is that very little of a normal domestic trip is non-refundable or when non-refundable, only has a relatively low cancellation penalty. For airfare it would be the change fee in most cases; for hotels, usually one night; for car rentals, unless pre-paid (ie. Hotwire) zero; park tickets, other events, varies, but most are not a specific time value.

So the coverage amount that can be recouped through is rather small in comparison to the true trip cost which is significantly more. Now for some people they will insure this small risk, but to me, after buying a few years of trip insurance this amount would be easily covered if self insuring.

Now, if you have no medical coverage, this is a little different as if you are injured while on vacation, this cost can be significant, but if you have medical insurance, again, limited outlay.

Some good points. We had to use ours when my wife was hospitalized in Orlando. The insurance paid our hospital co-pay, the extra days I had for hotel, and the increase in fare for the airline. They did not pay for extra car rental days. That $63 insurance paid us about $2300.

I agree.

Looks like Jet Blue has a deal with Access America, for insurance on their flights. That would be the only part of it I would think of for insurance.

BUT since you could be deemed to have a pre-existing condition, you need to have deep and meaningful discussions, then have that info put into writing for you, with the reps at insurance places, to make SURE that you in your exact situation would be covered.
