How Do You Ask To Split a Meal?

I want to eat smaller portions on my trip, so if I can get someone in my party to split a meal, I'll do that. I'm just wondering do you ask the waiter to split it on two plates or to bring one plate full of food and one plate empty? I've never really split anything other than dessert because I am very happy to eat the whole thing, but I'm trying a new diet and......... well, you know.

First, you need to find a mutually agreeable item on the menu to split.

Then when you order the item, just say and X and I will be splitting ...... (insert item here). Can this be divided in the kitchen?

This is what we do, and most of the time they do divide it in the kitchen. Sometimes the answer will be.... the chef prefers that you divide it at the table. We very seldom have this happen though. Most places will take care of the division in the kitchen.

We split entrees all the time! Desserts we split too, but those can stay on one plate.

HTH!!!

I usually just say "We will be sharing the..." and then they figure it out from there. They usually just bring an extra plate, and let the people sharing split it, but they have on occasion split it in the kitchen and brought out two complete plates. I prefer that, since it is a lot neater, and sometimes they give each person a nearly full portion of the side items. Don't worry about doing it, as it seems pretty common, especially at WDW. Good luck with the new diet and have a great trip! :flower:

I usually just indicate that I will be splitting my meal, and leave it up to them. I don't expect them to split my meal for me, but it is very nice when they do. I can't recall a situation where I have not recieved at least an extrea plate. Don't worry about it and good luck with the diet!

Everytime we've told the server we'd be splitting, it has come out already split on 2 plates (one time they even split up the order of French Fries and it looked pretty evenly split).

Disney seems VERY used to having people split meals (most servings are large, except in the upscale resteraunts, where portions are smaller). Another option is to order an appetizer for an entree ---- that give you some flexibility, if you can't find someone to share. Sometimes people order just an appetizer or salad or just a dessert. Anything goes!

Because my DH and I have lost quite a bit of weight in the past year, we began splitting meals on our last trip. In fact, it was a very kind server at Spoodles who first suggested it. It has never been a problem, and they usually split it in the kitchen. Has worked out very well for us, for both the waistline and the pocketbook

Has anyone had problems splitting a meal using a dining plan credit?

We're not large eaters and would like to try splitting one TS credit between two adults (or 4 meals among 6 adults, for a little more food, etc). But disney has told our AAA TA that we have to use one credit per adult for menu locations as well as buffet/ayce locations! We wanted to split at places like CRT for dinner (menu), WCC if we're not doing AYCE skillets, Spoodles, San Angel Cafe, etc. (the latter are 'date nights' where the adults are going for piece and quiet and *some* food, so one dinner split between the romancing couples should be fine....)

Thanks for any info.

Some of the sit downs will also do appetizer portions of the main entrees if you ask.

I have read conflicting reviews on splitting on the Dining Plan. I have seen a few people say yes you can and others say no, each adult has to use a credit regardless of what is ordered. I have no idea. I would just suggest asking your waitress/waiter. Things can be really different from one restuarant to the other.

I'm wondering the same thing. Two of my kids are "adults"......there are a few restaurants where they would get the same thing anyway, and with an appetizer and dessert, it's more than enough food.

That way, dh and I could use the extra credits at a place like CA Grill. We'd be using adult credits, so it doesn't seem like it could be a problem.

Unless things have changed from when we went in June, splitting a meal on the dining plan should not be a problem at TS (excluding beffets, etc.). If you only order 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and 1 dessert, you will only be charged 1 TS credit.
