I've been going on alot of interviews lately. And I'm really getting tired of "So where do you want to be in 5 years?" Let's see I'm 46 and looking for a job, I guess in a job that someone isn't going to ship overseas because they can do it cheaper?!!?

Why do they ask that question? and how do you answer it?

What question in an interview makes you insane???

I always would say I'd like to be moving into management in the next 5 years. And the question that drove me crazy is give me a negative about you? Why on earth would I want to do that and anyone who does this has already had interview training and just says what you want to hear. really what is the point of most of the stupid questions they ask?

A. Hopefully I will have won a few million in the lottery and won't have to be sitting in a place like this answering inane questions.

You could always say I am looking fro job security and that unfortunately you have been unlucky with having your jobs outsourced.

Just make sure you don't come across as negative!

Where do I want to be? Retired in Orlando with a nice income. But since that isn't likely to happen I'll settle for being employed here at your company. :rotfl2:

Sorry but I have no idea what they are really looking for. To me any answer a person would give to that question would just be the BS answer the company wants.

Maybe they are just trying to weed out those who would respond with things like. I'd like to be in school full time earning my degree. I'd like to change careers to XXXXX. I plan on being a stay at home mom. etc... Just to avoid hiring someone who plans on leaving soon.

This is where I would like to be in the next 5 years full time. :sunny: ;) It's a tough life but somebody has to do it. ;)

This wouldn't be the best answer to give when trying to get a job, but for me it's the truth.

I want to be either a SAHM or working part time after just having my first child! :)

Tell him/her that in 5 years you expect to have his/her job. NOT!!! :rotfl:

My ex actually said that and it worked! They liked his aggressiveness and drive!

when my DH interviewed for his current job, he came home and said. "OMG, they tag teamed me! If one of them forgot one of those dumb --- questions they always ask, the other one had one."

I guess I just don't see the point of questions like that. Even someone who sees them selves living in there parent's basement in 5 years can make something up. Ask about the person you ARE!

I usually take a moment to look pensive (or try to), then tell them what I secretly wish I were already doing (in my case, operating a home-based craft business, which I've recently started). I can kinda understand why they ask this one, because often they're trying to gauge what direction you may want to go in their company, what your work-related interests are, and whether or not you'll end up quitting in 2-3 months (then they'd have to go through the hiring process all over again).

As for the question that drives me nuts, I hate it when they start asking personal questions (about family, hobbies, etc.). IMHO, if it's not directly related to the job for which I'm applying, it's none of their business!
