How do they know there's a 3rd adult in room?

I'm not planning on cheating Disney's terms, but I was just wondering, if they charge extra money for a 3rd or 4th adult in the room, how would they know that you have the extra adult(s) in the room? It just seems kind of funny that they would charge more per adult in the room when one could easily say there are only 2 adults and sneak the 3 and/or 4th one in. It seems like Disney is relying on people to be honest. What do you think?

Only 3 more days til we're in the World!!! Whoopeeee!!! :dancer:

Honestly, they don't.

However, of all the times we've gone to Disney, we would tell the front desk that my BIL is staying with us and they would just issue another resort ID and we've never been charged for it.

But do they really know if you sneak in a person? No, not really... unless they start to do room by room searches. The only issue is if the extra person is going to use EMH, morning or evening. At that point, when they check room keys and the extra person doesn't have a room key, he/she won't be admitted to park.

I'm sure that there have been numerous times in the past and there will be numerous times in the future where someone has sneaked an extra person or 2 in the room. It's nothing new and it's certainly not limited to Disney.

I agree, the only problem would be that extra key for EMH. So any extra people would not get the benefits of staying on site. I guess you might be able to get around that by saying you lost your key and get a third one. Don't know how they'd check. And I also agree, it's nothing new and not limited to Disney. I also think that most people are honest.

And what happens when they give you a room with only one bed? We've been assigned rooms with either only one queen or a king in the past. (Yes, there are rooms that have only one queen in them)

Is that possible? My son and DIL may join us for a day, his schedule doesn't allow planning too far in advance. We are staying at AKL on the concierge floor, and would gladly pay if they are able to stay, just didn't know the routine. We have 2 rooms for the 5 of us and one child, so we would have plenty of room.

Yep, it's possible. If you have reserved a room for either one or two adults and haven't given a pref for bedding, this could happen. And that pref request is just that, a request. It may or may not be met. So, if you say you have just one adult but you have two friends show up to stay with you, you could find yourselves all in a king-sized bed.

I spoke to the Cm at AKL and told her that in one room we will have my Sis in law along with my DH and I , and in the other room, which we hope is connecting, my DD and her DH and little DD. I assumed that there would be 2 queen beds, but now I should make a request, I guess.

I hate to make reservations for my DS and DIL not knowing if they can make it, but was hoping to have them stay if they could. Again, not trying to sneak anyone in, as we would want to pay for them.

This would not work. Before issuing a new room card the old card must be cancelled in the computer. If the uncarded person is using their own name when trying to get a new card the CM will not find the old card to cancel. If the extra person uses the name of one of the real quests they will most likely be asked for an photo ID to confrim who they are and if they manage to get a card the first card for the real quest will be cancelled and they will be right back where they started.

We had our sister in law stay with us for couple days. We didn't know if she was til last minute. So told them at desk when we checked in and they gave us an extra room card for her and didn't charge us extra. She went and got her park hopper. This was a few years ago.

Now this time in Nov. we're looking at another sister staying with us and to be quite honest I would of liked to of done the same thing - wait til we check in to notify them... but we've got the dining plan which poses a problem. Everyone in your room has to be on the dining plan .. and has to be staying the same amount of nights. So I was afraid to notify them at checkin.. Could very well refuse to let her stay with us a couple of nights and require her to book her own room which is a lot of $$ for one person. So went ahead notified our TA to add another adult to our room/package.

If you want the third adult to have a room key, they will know. Otherwise they probably wouldn't know.

I forgot about the dining plan. we have it. Oh, well, I will cross this bridge when I get ther. I do not even know if they can come, as this is the first year DS works at this place. It is a country club, and he really does not know how long the Holiday season extends past New Years Day. They plan on coming when they can, but I miss them and want them to stay with us if possible.

If you say you lost the key and they reissue you another one... that lost key that you told the CM will not work as a key to get in the room. I didn't get to the lifeguard on time to pick up my key, they left for the night (This is at the Polynesian- I was borrowing their vest and I had to give them my key). So I had to go to the front desk and they reissued me another one and I asked if they automatically deactivate the key and he said yes.

Now as far as EMH goes... I guess with the spare key and the "lost" key... they look the same... the date is the same... the CMs at the parks wouldn't know if it's a "good" key or a "bad" key. So I guess that solves the problem.

As far as if Disney will know if you have a 5 or 6 people that accomodate 4 people... they won't know.

I want to take my parents with me for the Holiday, so there will be a total of 5 of us... and I can't seem to even think about POR or the deluxe resorts, even though they sleep 5 (BC. BWI. Poly)... I was even thinking of WL Deluxe that sleeps 6.. and I think this will be better for us.. but it's just darn too expensive! Oh well... maybe I have to settle for the Dolphin... it's cheaper! I don't know either two rooms at POFQ or one room at POR or the deluxes.. decision.. decision.. decision...

We did this years ago when my nephew joined us (okay 20 years ago :rotfl: )
My kids were younger, and so many rooms at the CT noone knew. This year, it is costing us a fortune more because we have 5 adults and one 4 year old. Needed an additional room at AKL. but I was worried that if we tried to squeeze 6, it would be a problem. Now we should have extra room to accomodate my DS and DIL, but I am not willing to pay early "just in case." I know that I would be the one that was asked to leave if I was caught....always got caught if I tried to skip school. :)

We just reserve the room with two adults and them let them know an extra adult joined us at check in. We have always gotten the third key and never been charged.

I generally play by the rules, but I think the extra adult charge is ridiculous at a Disney hotel (room only). That extra adult really isn't costing the hotel any more (not like there is a free continental breakfast or anything) and what they pay for park admissions/food/souvenirs etc. more than makes up for it. Other hotels probably wouldn't have that kind of opportunity to recoup extra costs (however minimal they may be) of a third adult, so I guess I can see why they would charge extra.

If you say you are 2 adults and one child and book the room that way you will never get one bed.

I've always added the extra adult at check in and never before that. I've never been charged for the extra adult doing it that way. I'm always prepared to pay for them though.

This is exactly what I discussed with the Concierge. We have 3 adults in one room, and 2 adults and 1 child in the other.

Yes, just wait and see. Now I was told when I call WDW that this is the policy and the only thing I could do is get another room for less nights. But.. again, don't know what they would do if you tell them at check-in. Any comments from anybody on that??

It's actually a pain cause sister only wanted to stay 2 nights but now has to stay 4. Seems like they don't have a problem with a last minute addition to your room and ususally don't even charge you extra for that problem so I assume the policy is set this way cause they don't want 3 adults trying to use 2 adult paid dining plans. Which is not what we would of done. We would of either bought the dining plan for 2 nights for her.. or she would of paid OOP for her meals. As far as just sneaking her in our room, well that would of been awkward since we're in a tower room at CR. I can just see her walking thru lobby with her luggage and getting stopped. :rolleyes1 :scared1:

Exactly what I did in the past with the same thought that I might or might not have to pay.

I have done three adults in a room on two occasions - both times I listed all the adults on the reservation.

At the CR we were charged for the extra adult - IIRC $25.00 per night and at the BC about a year later we were not charged.

We all needed valid room keys as it was a "mom's weekend away" and we spent time apart as well as for the pool area esp at BC.

MY cc'd was on the room so I had the keys made without charging privledges.
