How do they assign rooms at DVC?

Most of the time they claim to use a system called "Room Ready." The idea here is that the CM pulls up the list of rooms that a ready for occupancy while you are standing at the front desk. He/she will then try to match you with a room that best meets your requests.

I assume this works best when you arrive early in the day. We usually check-in on Sunday and try to get to the resort as early as possible. There are usually a number of rooms that sat empty from the night before and we often get into our room immediately. Last month I drove over to OKW to check-in at 8:30am and was standing in my room 20 minutes later.

That said, there are also times when the room appears to be pre-assigned when you get to the front desk. I've often heard that requests that are based upon a stated "medical necessity" are given highest priority. If so, those rooms would almost have to be pre-assigned.

IMO, if view or some other room criteria is terribly important, the cardinal rule is to get to the resort as early as possible. If you don't arrive until, say 10pm, the resort is at max capacity and you don't like your room for some reason, the resort may be completely unable to move you. DVC resorts are designed to be full nearly year-round. I would make every effort to get to the front desk in the morning, even if it meant flying into town a day early and staying off-site for the night.

Sunday before Thanksgiving, we checked in about 1:30 ish. Got a great 2br at CP overlooking DTD.

Since our next 2 trips we will be checking in on Saturday, I figure we'll have a good pick of 2br(do to the fact alot of people don't like to burn through those Fri or Sat points).

What ever happened to the urban legend that people booked on ME had their rooms ready @ check-in/got priority on being assigned a room (both @ resorts & DVC)? We tried it -busted; a no-go for us.

Is that what the Fifth Dimension meant when they said, "When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter alligns with Mars..." ? That must be when we'll get our room requests met.

Do not forget that that NONE of the lunar methods apply durring a leap year. Then they rely strictly on the orrangatange method.

We checked in once at OKW about 11:00am, and we were given a choice of rooms. We checked in once at BWV at about 11:00am, and we were not given a choice of rooms.

I think, in part, it depends on the particular DVC resort. SSR and OKW have more rooms available, so they're probably able to offer a choice.
