How do so many people NOT understand FP?

We even try to cheat the fastpass system by getting another fastpass 10 minutes into our time frame. I agree- if you're going to spend all that money, you should do your research and get your money's worth!:smooth:

Great Tip. :thumbsup2 I will be using this juicy tidbit in 3 days on our first trip to meet the mouse.

I have to laugh when a couple of you talked about people getting suspicious when you try to give them your FPs. :rotfl2: We went to AK & pooped out before we could get to Safari, so on our way out, we stopped a family and explained that they could use those to get on the ride in the next hour, & they were just so suspicious about it. My DH and I had a good chuckle over that one.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Let's keep this secret.

But seriously, I wonder if the same people that don't "get" FP are the same people who don't know how to use an ATM or don't understand the beauty of having a digital camera. To each his own.

disneyplease---- to double up on your FP all you have to do is this. If your FP return time says 12:00-1:00 as soon as the time is 12:01 you can get a second FP for anything you want. You can then return to the first ride and use your original FP. Also, most of the time the CM's will let you on even if you are a little over you return time--eg: 12:00-1:00 and you return at 1:10.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Move over DVC, the Best Kept Disney Secret is FastPass. I love getting behind the people who haven't figured out the machnes and stand there for 1o minutes trying to figure them out.

And why is there lines for half the machines, and the other half are standing there empty? It's like people know which ones are going to give out better times. Kind of like lurking over slot machines in Vega$

I agree, what's so hard about putting your ticket in the slot? If you don't get it ASK someone.

One note about late returning FP--one Cm told me he would not let late returning FP users go in. It was never a problem for us as we were able to return within the window and we didn't plan to cut it close.

We consider Fastpass to be one of the best Disney innovations of the last several years, and we use it all the time. Like everyone else, I have no idea how anyone would not use it. In order not to learn about Fastpass, someone would have to do the following:

1. Do almost no research before their trip.

2. Not look at the park maps when they arrive.

3. If staying onsite, not read any of the materials in the welcome packet.

4. Ignore the many signs posted around the parks mentioning Fastpass.

5. Not notice the Fastpass kiosks.

6. Not notice the lighted display above the Fastpass kiosks showing return times for Fastpass holders.

7. Not notice the separate entrance line when they get in the standby line.

8. Not notice the people who are periodically entering the separate line and going ahead of them.

9. Not notice the Cast Members happily allowing them to go through the separate line.

10. Not notice the little piece of paper that people are showing to the Cast members as they enter the other line.

11. When seeing any mention of Fastpass anywhere, never once say to a Cast Member or anyone else, "What's that?"

You almost have to go out of your way to remain uninformed about Fastpass. If you don't know about it, it's because you made absolutely no effort of any kind. I do my best to try to explain it to those who see the machines and ask about them, and people are either skeptical, confused, or thrilled to learn about it. I wish everyone would take the very small amount of time necessary to learn about Fastpass so they can increase their family's fun, but while they remain uninformed I will happily keep getting my freely available Fastpass times!

I haven't been to any of the other theme parks in Orlando, but don't some of them have a fastpass-like option that comes with a premium ticket? I ask, because maybe some of those people who make the "that line is for rich people" comments have been to other parks where you really did have to pay money to use a head-of-the-line perk. :confused3

Nevertheless, I agree with other posters who say you'd almost have to willfully decide NOT to find out about fastpass in order to remain ignorant of it. The information is everywhere!

I don't understand this either. How can people not know about the fast pass. we walked right on the the safari at AK last week. A man in line with his family got really upset when his family was asked to wait as mine entered. He was cursing the employee telling them that he enterend the line and it said 40 minutes and he was going on an hour and a half wait in line. how can anyone do that to thier kids. If you are vacationing anywhere I would have to do research on the trip, why dont people do it when going to disney. I will not wait in a line that offers fast pass, I tell my wife we have to wait and come back when the fast pass in available.

When we fastpass, we always receive angry looks from the people in the standby line as well!!!

Of course, I'm sure that it has absolutely nothing to do with my wife typically shouting " :woohoo: MAKE WAY! COMIN" THROUGH!! IN YOUR FACE, SUCKERS!!!!!" Could it?

We just returned on Sunday from a week long vacation at WDW. I was just amazed at how people would stand in a 110 minute wait line for a ride that lasts about 7 minutes when you can easily obtain a Fastpass and return in a few hours without any wait.

I did, however, notice that the people riding Expedition Everest had figured out the FastPass machine. We arrived just after park opening to AK on a Tour Guide Mike "Green Day" for AK and I was at the Expedition Everest FP machine for 9:30am. The return time was already at 2:00pm to 3:00pm.....WOW!

We learned our lesson back in 2004 for our first visit since the FP machines were in place. We saw a 30 minute wait for the Pooh ride and proceeding to get in the stand-by line. About 1.5 hours later, we were finally on the 3 minute ride. We watched as Fastpasser after Fastpasser just zoomed by while we waited and waited. After that....I figured out how to use Fastpass.

Another experience was last year on Soarin. I had a FP and we returned for our time. The attraction was relatively new and the lines were long. When I walked up to the front in the FP line, a gentleman asked me how the weather was outside. I told him it was raining. He proceeded to tell me that he had been in line over 2 hours! I'm thinking....WHY??!!! I would get a FP and then at least go play with all the displays in Innoventions for 2 hours instead of standing in line for a 10 minute ride....geez....

None of this bothers me though....I know how to use the system and it makes our vacations so much more fun.

I do, however, have a new pet peeve. It didn't really cause me any stress on our vacation....but, I thought I would mention it. My new pet peeve is people who have the dining plan and don't know how to use it. Some people think they have to individually order for each person in their group using each key assigned to that person. They don't realize that all the credits are "pooled" together on one room....so, you have to wait there for 5 individual people to make 5 seperate orders while the mom is trying to give everyone their key, etc....

Then, you have the people that don't realize that a dessert is included on counter service meals. The cashier instructs them that they can pick out a dessert....then, they ask....what desserts do you offer?....then, they have to ask each individual person in the party which dessert they want.

Ughh!!!!!

Oh well....can't complain. We had no problems on our trip.....

Speed :teleport:

Recent trip: The Mrs and I walked up to Peter Pan at 7:00 PM. Stand by time said 40 minutes. Fast Pass return window was 7:35 to 8:35. We grabbed fastpasses...

...then rode Small World...

...then saw PhilharMagic...

...then saw that it was roughly 7:35, so we headed to the FP line at PP and walked in and sat down.

So, let's see...stand in line for 40 minutes or grab a FP, see two other attractions, and then just walk on PP 35 minuts later? Tough choice... :)

In defense of the park map thing: Sure, everybody HAS a map, but are they using it for much more than a map? A lot of those explanations and stuff are on the back, and unless you have some downtime...like, oh I don't know, an hour wait in line?...then you probably don't "read" the map. But like frndofpooh said, you've got to really WORK at it to not notice anything related to FastPass...

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like you could come back late. We always tried to be on time but the very few times when we were a couple minutes late the CM's didn't care. I think they are more concerned with people trying to get on early. There is always the chance that if you are late they will refuse to let you on.

On Sunday, I tried to give away FIVE FPs for Everest. It was 11 a.m. and the ride had been delayed in opening so the standby line was huge. It took me FOUR tries until I found a family that would take them! Finally I found a family that was hurrying over with park map in hand. LOL. They were SHOCKED - jaws dropped when they figured out what we were doing. It sure made our day and theirs (I hope).

I also heard a comment at Magic Kingdom. We were going to get FPs for Space and a family in front saw the standby line was 60 minutes. The fast pass return was 3:30 and they whined "3:30! The line's only 60 minutes. Let's just wait" :rotfl:

Okay, this just reminded me of something -- DH and I met working summers at a local amusement park -- one of the things we always use to say was it was amazing how people would just kind of check their brains at the door and become really stupid when they came in through the gates. It seemed to get worse the further into the park they went (I worked in the back of the park, so I can attest to that). Maybe it's the "Disney brain-check effect" that we have all observed from those who don't "get" FastPass. At least they're having fun waiting in line.
