How do other brands compare to Bare Minerals?

I buy my bare minerals on qvc.com. They have a "try me" kit for $30. I've been using bare minerals for well over 5 years and love it!!!! Before that, I never wore make-up because I didn't like the way it felt on my skin. I stick with the basics (foundation, bisque, mineral veil & clear radience) and get tons of compliments on my beautiful "skin".

I was wondering about the Clear Radiance. I use Proactiv to keep my acne prone skin clear and it works so great, but I hate having to buy both that and Bare Minerals.

I wonder what is different about the Clear Minerals, vs how the regular Bare Mineral foundation helps to clear up skin. Have you ever put clear minerals on a big honkin' zit, and does it help overnight?

TIA!

Clear radiance is a type of all-over color that Bare Minerals makes. It's like a shimmery pink blush. http://store.bareescentuals.com/bar...ault,pd.html?cgid=BE_SUB_MULTITASKINGMINERALS

I guess I had the name wrong, so I googled it... it is a new item that I saw in the bare escentials catalogue I got. The acne product is actually called 'Rare Minerals'... has anyone used it?

http://www.rareminerals.com/

I can't see how it would really work as an acne treatment, beyond what the bare minerals already does for your skin.

I used to buy the foundation minerals at sephora.. Now I use the costco brand that is much cheeper.. no difference to me whatsoever..:confused3

I tried this off of QVC and couldn't get past the intense sulphur/medicated smell. I had to return it. I don't have acne really just an occasional bump so I thought I would like it to brush on before my minerals. I tried it for a while but maybe because I didn't need to use it that much....i never got used to the scent.

If you like bare minerals you'll like aromaleigh. It's a small company out of South Carolina who make everything by hand. They have great prices on samples, free shipping on those samples, and LOTS of colors for your foundation color. LOTS of eye colors. I can't say enough about them. I've been using them for years, and every order they send you a few new samples and the samples are very generous. You can find them at Aromaleigh.com. I pay 16.00 for the large size. They have a formula for regular skin and also one if you have dry skin called Voile'. It's creamier than the regular. Worth it to try the samples. They're around 2 bucks per sample with free shipping. A sample would last you a week at least.

Thanks for posting this, I'm going to order some samples so I can try it out!

I use this, but it dosen't really do much for acne. It has made my skin look better over time, smoother and my pores are less noticeable. I get it from ebay cheaper.....I am not sure its worth the retail price.

I have never used Bare Minerals before and I was wondering if it covers up acne scars and uneven skin tones without it looking cakey? I would love to have healthier looking skin, but most makeup seems to make the scars or occasional break out look worse. Do you think this mineral makeup would be good for skin like this?

Thx!

I really like Sheer Cover...I've tried bare minerals and don't like the coverage as well as Sheer Cover. The only thing about Sheer cover is its not sold many other places so they can con you into signing up for their every other month delivery and you pay out the nose for it. I bought some on shopnbc and they may still have the small kits. I like mineral makeup. it lasts all day for me and definitely covers all the redness in my skin that I've been trying to cover for years.

OP here... well, I tried to buy some BM on Ebay and fell into a trap! I searched under the words bare minerals fairly light, and stumbled onto a listing for a set of powder, blush and eyeshadows with brushes for $31.50. It was a store with 98.5% positive feedback so I decided to buy it. I asked for the colors I liked (from BM's website) and she emailed to tell me she isn't selling BM (despite a very misleading use of keywords!!).

I hope she refunds my purchase price - I was very polite but I explained I'm looking for Bare Minerals not reformulations. Now I'm mad at myself, and I still don't have any fairly light powder!

For anyone who buys on Ebay, can you recommend your seller? Or should I wait until it's on QVC for a promo deal? I'd like the brushes and maybe blush.

I am also a user of Everday Minerals....LOVE IT!!!

I have been using it for about 2 years now, and I actually mix my own shade of foundation to fit the season. I love the coverage, and I love that in heat and humidity it doesn't look like I am wearring a mask. Also...I have VERY sensitive skin and rosacea and I have never had a reaction to the products. Their mini-kabuki brush is awesome too.

I LOVE Bare Escentuals. I've been using it since 2006 and can't say enough good things about it. One time I ran out of foundation and bought the Loreal mineral foundation, I hated it, did not provide the coverage Bare Minerals does.

I used a gift card I received for Ulta for my bday for the eye shadows and love them all and they'll last forever. I think it came with 8 colors and a black eye liner powder, now the only type of eye liner I'll use. I also use their mascara. I love the kits they sometimes sell on QVC, you get so much more for your money that way.

I wouldn't mind trying Sheer Cover though, to compare. I think I have seen that at JC Penney's.

Another one to try is Everyday Minerals. They have a sample kit that you only play shipping for, and you can do that several times until you get your colors figured out. BE made my skin itchy, I think it's the bismuth that they contain. EM doesn't do that, and for me, covers just as well as BE, and is much less expensive.

Another vote for Everyday Minerals. I don't wear lots of makeup on a regular basis, but when I do, this is the only thing I will wear. Everything else breaks me out (although I've never tried Bare Minerals)... Everyday Minerals pricing cannot be beat, you can order multiple samples to find your perfect shade and blend, (just have to pay shipping..) I don't think I'll ever buy anything else.

One more vote for Everyday Minerals! www.everydayminerals.com they have a free trial set (great for travel) and if you order a certain amt ($30? I can't remember) there's free shipping. Their kabooki brushes are nice, too, and a great price. I usually order

I have tried Bare Minerals & the L'Oreal brands also. The L'Oreal does not compare to BM at all in terms of coverage or staying power. Normally, I purchase mine off of eBay--just be sure to read the entire listing & make sure it says Bare Minerals or Bare Escentuals & the seller has good feedback.

Another vote for Everyday Minerals. I used Bare Escentuals for over 2 yrs and liked it but it always made my face itch when I went out in the heat or humidity. I put up with it because I liked the look. I tried Everyday Minerals and have never looked back - No itch at all and the coverage is just as good if not better than the Bare Escentuals.

I would suggest that the OP find a cosmetic counter (or Ulta Store) that sells BM. I had no idea what shade to buy, and the consultant matched me up perfectly. I even took the mirror over to the windows so I could see natural lighting on it. It was not a color that I would have chosen just by looking at the product in a jar.

I've used these and will rate them in order of my preference:

Everyday Minerals -- didn't irritate my skin, brushes are the best
Bare Minerals -- like it, the kabuki brush is ok
Costco stuff -- brush broke on first use, powder is ok
Physicians Formula -- brush sucks and shape of container is impossible.

I haven't managed to get the application right though, on any of them. I feel like it accentuates lines & pores. Anyone else have this problem?

Use a primer!! I, too, was bothered by my mineral MU accentuating fine lines. Then, I tried using a face primer, and the difference was noticeable. Everything went on so smooth, and lines were just smoooothed away.

I use to be a big fan of Everyday Minerals. However, in November I placed an order and I'm just not as happy with the products anymore. They now itch me, coverage isn't as good, and the color is a little different. Seems to me like the quality has gone downhill a bit.

On the Everyday Minerals forum, several of the users are recommending Monistat Anti-Chafing Lotion as a Primer. I tried it the other day on my eyelids, and no creasing. Today, I tried it very lightly on my whole face, and my makeup looks just as good now as it did when I put it on 12 hours ago. And I was grilled in Court today for over an hour by a defense attorney, so it withstood a very tough day. I was sweating up a storm, but my makeup didn't suffer a bit.
