How do Mickey beignets compare to New Orleans beignets

My kids LOVE beignets (ok, me too), so I was thinking they'd be so excited to get Mickey shaped ones from the Mint Julep bar (ok, me too!). Most of the time we avoid "New Orleans" food when away from home because it's usually not like what we're used to.

Anyone ever had a Cafe du Monde or Morning Call beignet? How do the Mickey ones compare?

The beignets at Brennans are pretty good. Not as good as Cafe du Monde, but still pretty good.

Although, Mickey beignets are delish, they are not as awesome as cafe du mondes. They are a bit more airy, lighter, not so creamy, but, tasty deep fried sugar powdery fun none the less. But, at Ralph Brennans express in dtd, the beignets are pretty much exactly like cafe du mondes, the use their dough and use the same oil. So, if you're looking for home taste stop there, before you get to the park, the question is, though......will that bag make it to the front gates? Lol! I know New Orleans square food doesn't taste like NOLA food, but, its tasty. Our fave is cafe Orleans, pomme frittes, gumbo, blackened salmon. Think of it as a condensed Disney version of Cajun food. As if you were in a cartoon, if you will....lol! My husband is from new Orleans, his dad played for the saints in 1971,#64 ray Hester. Family is all on the north shore now,so I understand the comparisons. although dlr will have nary a crawfish, its still a delightful stroll through Walt's love of new Orleans. I hope you have a wonderful time !

I've not had the pleasure of real NOLA beignets, but I've had some very, very good ones over the years. Love them. That said, I wasn't impressed by the beignets I had at either the Mint Julep bar or Ralph Brennan's Express.

My biggest complaint about RBX was that they weren't made to order, so every time we've gone there, it's obvious that the batch we'd gotten had been sitting for a while. Timing is important with beignets, and they don't improve as they cool. (In my opinion.) Had they been hot and fresh, I think they would have been very good.

The couple of batches we've tried from Mint Julep were certainly fresher (we had to wait a while for them, too), but didn't have the lovely soft and doughy texture I associate with good beignets. They seemed much more like regular doughnuts.

I've never ordered beignets at the actual Ralph Brennan's restaurant. I would guess that they're made to order, so that would solve the problem I have with Express. It might be worth trying.

You're right. Beignets absolutely have to be fresh. I'm not too worried about the Brennans ones. If they're square, we can just get them at home. I was just thinking it would be cool to have Mickey shaped ones.

I'm sure we'll try them out and decide for ourselves! Was just wondering how they compared.

This reminds me of our last WDW trip where we met Tiana and Naveen. She talked to my kids a good 15 minutes about New Orleans. (I was feeling very bad for the people in line behind us and tried to hurry my kids up, but Tiana would have none of that!) At one point dd told her "I'm not sure who told you to put honey on your beignets, but that is NOT RIGHT! When you get back to your restaurant, you need to stop doing that!" So, she started asking dd for tips on her other dishes. I so wish I had a video of all of that conversation!

When we tried the ones from RBExpress it had been more recently than now that I had been to NO, and I didn't think they tasted a thing like the real ones. I found them to be pretty gross, actually.

I like the mickey ones from Cafe Orleans. The ones from the mint julep window are better IMO and aren't shaped like Mickey if I'm remembering correctly. I like them more than the Mickey ones.

And the fritters from Royal Street Veranda are tasty goodness when HOT, but aren't beignets.

The ones at the Mint Julep window ARE shaped like Mickey. Just ate some last week and several times previous to that.
