I have a 10 day MYW with water park option. We have used 2 days and since we will be there for 12 days in Dec and 8 in July I thought I should upgrade them.

Can I do this by mail or do I have to do it when I get there? Can I get the DVC discount at guest services? Also- want the DDE card and I think I can pick that up at guest services.

Thanks for any help!

We upgraded ours at Guest Relations at the Magic Kingdom in Town Hall on Saturday. You have to show your DVC card to get the discount then they apply the face value of your ticket (doesn't matter if you have used days or not) to the purchase price.

We had purchased both DDs 7 day base tickets at SOG and to upgrade each one to an AP was less than $140 each. I had used 1 day 1 park tickets that we had left over from our wedding reception in September and was able to apply the 4 I had used that week towards the purchase of my AP so it ended up costing me about $77 to upgrade! :thumbsup2

If I were you I would wait until you were using the last day of your ticket that you have now to upgrade so your expiration date is later.

Will it hold any value if I do that??

I would call Guest Relations and ask them. For us the AP started on the day we upgraded so we gained a few extra days by waiting until the last day our tickets were valid to upgrade.

If it were me (was me??) I would just hold onto the 10 day pass for future trips (not the next two, sounds like you will need lots of days) and just buy an AP for upcoming visits. My understanding is that you get no credit for the plusses, and the first 2 days are the most expensive. The value goes down quite a bit after those first few days.

Upgrades can only be done on site.

You can only do an upgrade if you do it within 14 days of the first time the ticket was used. After that, you cannot upgrade.

WDW used to allow a "dollar credit" transaction - that's where you could turn in your partially used ticket for a a monetary credit towards the purchase of a new, longer ticket. After the MYW tickets were introduced, Disney stopped doing that. The MYW tickets are heavily "front end loaded" and the last days can be worth as little as $8 or $9. Much better value for guests to just use the ticket than to trade it in for an AP/PAP.

BOTTOM LINE: Unless you are within 14 days of the first time you used the MYW ticket, you can only use it "as is". No upgrade is possible.

Here is a thread written by a WDW Cast Member will give you more info on tickets and upgrading:

Everything about WDW Tickets

ClarabelleCowFan - You ran into a cloud of pixie dust. The "rules" say upgrades are a 1 to 1 deal. The CM should not have applied the value of 4 tickets to only 1 AP/PAP. And the start date of the AP/PAP should have been the date that the MYW ticket was first used. No one else should count on encountering the same pixie dust, LOL.

 I did feel lucky. The CM said that as long as the computer let him do it then it was fine. I honestly didn't think any tix except the one I had used that day would count but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. I am so glad I did! He did consult with a manager and I think what they ended up doing was crediting the 4 1 day tickets towards a 7 day MYW ticket then upgrading that 1 ticket to the AP. All I know is that we paid $77 OOP for my AP! :yay:

This was by far the most expensive WDW trip in my life - DVC, 3 APs, and DDP for a week. Disney sure didn't lose any money on me!
