To the OP, I wouldn't mention a thing to your DIL. In fact I would not mention it to your son either. The people close to you know your son is in Afghanistan, I'm sure MOST of them will understand it if they don't get a thank you note.

Funny, that is the same for my Mom! My GF does a good job of it. I guess she tries to stay on the liked side of the family.

Jenn- Since my Princess is in school now I have 3.5 hours off each morning (with pay). My day doesn't start until I go get her. So I address a few envelopes in the comfort of my home while I DIS and drink coffee!

Of course when Baby comes I will be back to my 8 AM - 6 PM schedule.

I am getting spoiled. It will be hard to drag my butt out the door on time after this!

She is taking off 10 weeks or so. I won't work my full schedule again until she goes back to work, but I will be in and out while she is home. The grandparents will be coming to town and they typically want to take care of Princess without my help. This is the first job I have had (in SIXTEEN YEARS of being a nanny!) where both sets of grandparents are really lovely. If any of them are here I usually don't work. So we'll see. The weeks where there aren't grandparents around I may work close to my normal schedule.
