We are trying to plan a surprise trip for our family. The problem is I am trying to do it as cheap as possible and am not sure how to go about it. It is 9 people (grandma, grandpa, one mom and dad with 1 year old, one mom and dad with 2 year old, and an aunt). We were looking at mid November. We were going to do 4 day base ticket, add dining, magical express and weren't sure about best way to go with resort (3 rooms value resort, 1 room, rent vacation points? Also our son is in military and lives in FL but not sure if his discounts could be used for group? Any other discount ideas? Any ideas greatly appreciated!

I think it would be a bad idea to surprise anyone with a trip by planning it without telling them first. I would be concerned about schedules working.

That being said, if your son is that is in the military is joining you he would be able to buy discount tickets (he would have to be the one to buy them and be there when they are activated) and he could also reserve rooms at a discount if you were all under the same reservation. Again, he would have to be joining you and show his military ID.

If you don't mind sharing space it might be cheaper to go with the cabins. We had a party of 12 and split ours up between two Ft. Wilderness cabins and it worked pretty well, but our families were used to sharing space. It was nice to have the kitchens especially.

I was going to suggest Shades of Green, but you can't do Disney dining at SOG. I don't think ME either. We stayed there with a group of 8 and it is a beautiful resort. The military person in our group was able to book three rooms at his discount and purchase tickets for all of us.
