Waaaah:( You guys are so lucky! I have been lurking for several weeks now, reading all of your posts. My husband makes 6 figures a year,so we could easily afford a dvc. He thinks vacations are a frivolous expenditure, I know he would never go for buying into dvc.(he likes to save everything) But, I thought I just might talk him into going on a tour. Would the tour just about sell itself, is it impressive? Any thoughts please!

It wasn't the tour that did it for my husband. He already loves WDW. It was the fact that we had alread paid for the DVC in our previous vacations and had nothing to show for it. When he saw it all on paper it just made sense. We just got back from VB and he said...wish we would have purchased when we we were here in 97. We waited until Jan. 2000 (3 trips later!.)

Good luck! We love it.

At all the hotels and parks and even at Downtown Disney, there are kiosks that say Disney Vacation Club. Ask there and they can set up a NO PRESSURE sales presentation. When we first looked, they gave a free lunch to the restaurant of your choice on the boardwalk. Some suggestions: go on the tour after a few days of being there. Then the Disney magic will have set in and seeing the rooms after being cooped up in a small hotel room is a great sell. Be sure to ask about the golf privileges, the pool hopping, and Vero Beach and Hilton Head. Also ask about the other hotels around the country. You have available some of the finest resorts in the country, and you don't even have to stay for a week. Lastly, ask about the magical beginnings, that is where the DVC will buy back some of your first year points as a downpayment. Then, watch the no pressure sales team. They are not on commission and told us that if people want the DVC and can afford it, they'll get it. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks guys, we do splurge and go to wdw about every year. Our dd is only 8 years old, so we'll probably go at least a minimum of 10 more times! That was a great point to make about how we are already spending the money anyway and how we probably could have paid for a dvc already. I'll also wait a few days, so the disney magic is all around us! This is really a great board, I already learned about how points work, what they are worth and how to go about financing or putting it on a charge to get frequent flyer miles. I learned this from all of you!!

Dear Lori:

The tour and presentation does pretty much sell itself. You really have to watch out for the pixie dust that usually seals the deal.

You did not mention which resort you were interested in? Was it Boardwalk, Vero, OKW, HH or VWL? or are you waiting on Beach Club?

Hi Lori:

We have bought back in 1994 and have never looked back. We had a great sales guide and would love to share his name with you if you are interested. He was very low key and a true professional, He has been with DVC since the beginning so he a seasoned veteran. I can also share our experiences with a recent resale that we did.
Please email me directly if I can answer any questions.

The Guides aren't on commission? Wow, I just assumed they were. That's strange. They are all licensed realtors.

To Lori, you might be surprised about your DH. My chin about dropped after our tour when my husband said he would give it serious thought. I told him we should take the tour because they offered us a free lunch. And, it was at a restaurant that I wanted to eat at anyway. My DS loved the kid's playroom too. They have all kinds of video games. He's deprived, I won't buy him one until he's reading really well. Just call me mean ol'Mom.

EdT, which resort? I don't have a clue! is the VWL the only ones being offered now? We own a second home deep in the northern woods of Michigan. So we have our fill of all the wilderness themes. I was thinking of the beach club when it opens down the road. I would like something that gives me the feel of florida (tropical, I guess). I tend to be a laid back type of gal, so OKW is probably my style, but I am hesitant about a resale. what do you think?

Olaf, you are not an ole mean mom. My dd is 8 and still does not have any video games. Waste of precious time!

Be sure to allocate enough time to see the whole package. The tour and presentation takes 3 to 4 hours.
Also, understand that you are investing in yourselves and family. With the DVC, you will take vacation(s) annually or biannually depending on the number of points purchased. The DVC is not cheap but it is top shelf. Remind your DH that you and yours are worth it. Good luck.
Oh by the way - this was the successful approach taken by my DW to convince me to buy in. I have never regretted the decision

Hey Lori:

Sounds like you would be interested in OKW, it's definitely Florida and tropical. We own at OKW and love the serene atmosphere there. After a busy day at the parks it is nice to return to a quite and relaxing room, which is larger than the other DVC resorts, a quite pool with beautiful golf course or canal views.
Resales shouldn't be a concern. Actually if you have the patience and wait it out a little you can pick up a good deal and save yourself some money. We bought through Disney and a resale and both experiences were very pleasant and painless. A resale gives you the same benefits as if you purchased through Disney.. It is certainly worth looking into. Boardwalk is also available through resale. Email me directly by clicking on the little post card in the lower right corner and I'll be happy to share some resale contacts with you.

Time
The first presentation we saw lasted all of 45 minutes. When we bought, we started out as a regular presentation, then we decided to buy. The entire thing, including all the paperwork was 3-4 hours, very pleasant hours I might add. They took us to a 1 br unit and got us something to drink while they printed up our info. Then they took us through page by page and answered all our questions while we signed.
