Hi all. I am one of those people everyone used to hate! I could eat whatever I wanted, not exercise & not gain weight.

I was reasonably fit until about a year ago & I fit into a size 6 Gap jeans just fine.

Now it is different, & as someone who has never been faced with this I am clueless as to how to get up & get MOVING!

Here are my stats:

45
5'7"
I do not know how much I weight - I do not care how much I weight - I just know I do not like what I see in the mirror nor how tight my clothes.
I own an elliptical machine, but work for an accountant & it is tax season so I am in the office 6 days a week & am exhausted when I get home.
Married
2 kids - 15 & 12

The office is FILLED with cr@p to eat b/c it is tax season & I can't get away from it.

HELP!!!

Start with what you can control.
First, fill your desk or a basket in your office space with healthy food choices. Buy a case of water and keep it stashed somewhere.

second, revamp your food choices at home. Pack a lunch, don't go out to eat. If you do go out to eat, take some time to look up nutrition info online, maybe on your day off. Keep that info handy in your office so you have a go to list.

Does your office have stairs or can you walk around the outside of your building? During your breaks go for a walk outside or do stairs. 60 minutes a day can really make a difference. Between clients try to get up and just move around, even if it's only for 5 minutes. See if you can get anyone else in your office to go for a power walk with you, you might start a trend!

Journal, everything!!!! Food, exercise how you feel. Were you stressed and did you reach for a candy bar?

That's a start, I know others will be along soon to help!!

Thank you!

Yes, we have 3 flights of stairs & I will start taking them today.

We do not get a lunch hour. We all eat together, talk about client issues & go straight back to work regardless if it is tax season or not. We get paid for our lunch hour, so the time is not our own.

Working 6 days is exhausting, along with trying to keep the house & kids together. DH is GREAT, but his idea of clean/neat & mine differ just a bit....... ;)

Could you eat lunch then walk while talking about clients? Still working, but on the move. How many people are in your office? If there are to many that might not work.

Even though yours and DH's cleaning differs still involve him and the kids. My DH seems to think cleaning is a tear the house apart and move appliances kind of clean. For me if the floor is mopped and the counters are clean, I'm happy! LOL

When you do the stairs carry 2 water bottles, it may not seem like much but it will give a slightly added workout. And as long as it's safe, park as far away from the building as you can. Those extra steps will add up!

Really, we only take like a 15 minute break. I wish I could get the energy to wake up earlier & go on the ellipitcal for 1/2 hour every morning, shower & get to work. If I lived alone I could do that, but with all the craziness of kids & school I'm lucky if I walk out wearing matching shoes!

Oh I hear ya!!! I almost took DS14 to school today in PJs! thankfully the bus came back for him (she drove past and didn't realize he was standing there)

A lot of good suggestions so far. Be sure to pack all your meals and keep healthy snacks like nuts and fruit at your desk. When you aren't with a client spend as much time standing and shuffling your feet back and forth. They find that people who fidget are thinner. So when you take a call, stand and move around as much as possible. Everyone at work laughed at me when I started doing this. Then I lost some weight and everyone has started doing it too. I no longer email anyone in the building, I walk to their desk and stand while talking to them. While waiting for the printer I walk around it. Park as far away from the door as possible. You would be surprised at how fast every step adds up. Get a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day. Get the whole family out for an after dinner walk. Try lifting dumbells while watching tv. Or get a step and do a little stepping while watching tv at night. Once you start moving you will be amazed at how much more energy you will have. Good Luck!:thumbsup2

I work with 2 kids (12 - 14) and I know how the morning is......but I get up at 5AM to get my workout in before work, and before the kids get up. It's really hard to get in a routine, but once you do, you will find you have MORE energy, not less. It's not easy, but well worth it!

When you are doing chores around the house, find ways to plus them. Instead of carrying everything upstairs at once, carry one thing at a time for more trips. Do a few squats when reaching for something in the lower cabinet. Pace while watching tv.
