How do I get my deposit back?

Husband is being a grouch. If he doesnt go to the notary how do I get the deposit back? Or is it too late?

Dear Husband,

DVC has been the best thing we have ever done in our life. Not only do we get to come to Disney now on a regular basis but when we do, we live in wonderful accommodations. All the people that work at the resorts are wonderful and they make you feel so important. Yes, it's expensive but the benefits are far greater. We have three grown children and now it's our turn to be kind to each other. Yes we love Disney and most people think we are crazy for almost eating, drinking and thinking disney. Yes we are the wonderful commerical of Mom and Dad going to Disney, having a ball without the kids. Yes we had the most wonderful 7-day carribean cruise for only the $75 fee. Never in our wildest dreams did we ever think we could afford all of this. Yes we have a disney loan and yes we pay maintenance fees on a monthly basis but after a while you just get use to paying it on a monthly basis. Do I ever regret it? Yes....I regret it for not having the option of buying it when the kids were small. But you know something? someday we will have a ball with our grandchildren but right now my husband and I are having a ball with it. We scrimpt and save and are excited when we arrive. When it's our last day of vacation and i become sad that my vacation is all over, my husband reminds me that it's not really over and that we will be back. yOu might call me a weirdo, disney fanatic but having that "disney feeling" is wonderful.

So my suggestion is to go straight to the Notary and start enjoying your life!

Thanks Tinkerbell - Maybe the notary would let me sign without my husband along. I work for the town and Id be going to town hall. He already signed all the papers. I think it's worth a try.

Just call your guide and ask them to re-write the contract in your name only. If husband is being a problem, he doesn't have to share in the ownership.

Just wanted to let you know there's still hope. Husband says when he gets out of work tomorrow we can go to town hall and have this signed by the notary. Keep your fingers crossed for me. thanks

I couldn't have said it better myself.

My DH and I bought last year while on our honeymoon. (2nd marriage for me and all my kids are grown.) There is no place we would rather go than to WDW. Since our initial purchase at BWV in Sept. 2000, we did a BWV add on in November 200 and we are considering doing a small add on at VWL when we take of FIRST trip home in 17 days!!!

So, to imgoingtodisney, tell your DH that there is nothing better and just to sign on the dotted line next to the palm trees and then just enjoy the next 41 years!

hi: our only regret was not buying when we first became aware of dvc in 93. we waited and have bwv as our "home". i really wish we'd had this when the kids were younger instead of spending all that money on the deluxes (ap rates of course!). if we had put all the money we spent on the resorts, it would have been well paid off by now. also, another thing to consider is that the $per point has only gone up. it wouldn't be too hard to sell and get back what you've paid if you really decide it isn't for you.

Man, sounds like my DH... What a grouch he was :-( If he only listened to me in the first place, we'd have purchased three years earlier & saved all that money we spent on staying in the Villa's to begin with!!! We always paid cash for the 1 bedroom if you can believe it, and he still didn't want to join!!! All I can say is GROUCH!! Hope your DH comes around!

IMHO you shouldn't do this especially if your spouse is not supportive of it. It must be frustrating since we can tell how much you want to join.

It took me three solid years to talk my husband into signing up with the DVC. Thankfully, the people on this board helped tremendously. They answered his questions (through me, of course) and I found support by reading the wonderful trip reports they wrote.

We went on our first DVC trip last January. We were not even at the Boardwalk for more than 2 hours before my husband said, "How much do you think it would be to add on to our points?"

Now, we are leaving in about 10 days for Tanque Verde and we're taking my parents to WDW in January! Thanks DVC!!!!

I know this might sound like a silly question, but why did you have to go to a notary? When we bought we didn't.

We had to go to a notary because we signed up from home. It wasn't a big deal. We didn't need W2's though. Maybe they have changed things.

I signed up from home too... I had the papers fed-exed here, I was told just to sign by the mickey ears and date at the palm trees and that was it, no notary required. They told me to ignore that part... weird isn't it?? We paid cash, does that make a difference? I've also successfully added on without going to a notary... I'm completely confused???

You only need the notary if you finance through Disney...

You can always show your husband the Timeshare store listings for DVC. It was a comfort to us knowing that if there was a financial need, we could sell our points, it isn't a permanent decision.

I also believe you have 30 days to back out is you don't like it (at least we did here in Ohio).
