How do I avoid being required to get an additional room

I would shoot myself in the foot before I had that many in a value room! We had 3 once, and about killed one another.

I'd rent points and get a condo, personally. Space and cooking...and incredible facilities! We stayed at OKW and BWV last year and loved them!!!!

I would seriously consider the FW Cabins. The bedroom sleeps 4, so the kids could be in there, and there's a bed for two in the living room (a Murphy bed, not a sofabed) so you could have your privacy. Plus, you'd have the full kitchen so you could save some money on meals. They are usually priced better than a two bedroom DVC and sometimes they run really good discounts.

:welcome: to the Disboards.

I really think you should look into the Family Suites, as mentioned by Trekker.

Do the rooms for 5 at POR only work if one is under 8? I was hoping to do this for 5 of us but my girls will be 10. Will they not give us this type of room or is it just not comfortable based on size? One of mine is very small so I'm sure size would not really be an issue.

There's no age restriction that I know of, except that it has to be a "child" but I think that they use the age of eight due to the size of the trundle. I've never heard of someone with a ten year old being turned down for it though.

My aunt recently booked a room at POR for two adults and three children ages 17, 17 and 16. No questions were asked. She ended up cancelling that reservation and rebooking at YC.

There is a limited set of rooms in POR that will accommodate five. Your aunt must have secured a reservation for one of those rooms.

A 2 BR DVC is going to cost almost double the cost of two rooms at a value resort. If the OP is already balking at the cost of two rooms, I doubt she'll want to pay four times as much.

Anne

The OP never mentioned the cost of the rooms. Maybe she just wanted accomodations that will allow the family to stay in one room or suite, in which case DVC is a good idea, as is an ALL Stars suite.

I assumed she booked one of the rooms on Alligator Bayou with the trundle bed. The CM did not have a problem booking the room with 2 adults and 3 children ages 17, 17 and 16. Previous posters were discussing if there is an age cut off for the trundle. Based on my aunt's experience, I would say not. Unless I am just unaware of some other type of five person accomodation available at POR. ??? :confused3 ???

I am definately looking for the cheapest option. I am considering that if I do get 2 rooms then I might as well invite my nephew and SIL along. Last time we went we had the only 3 kids and we stayed in ASM and once sports. We can make do on room size as we really only sleep and shower in the hotel. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am a little confused on which is the least expensive option. I could not find any info on the Port Orleans suite.

Some of the rooms at POR have trundle bed but they're not suites. Is there any chance you'd be willing to stay offsite? You could save a lot of money that way.

The family suite is at All Stars. The trundle bed at Port Orleans Riverside is a standard room with a pull out bed under one of the beds, for an extra $15 cost to the price of the room per day.

The cost of the room will depend on when you are going.

I really like the convenience of the busses so i am really leaning towards staying onsite. I guess its just going to cost a few hundred bucks more than i was hoping.

Do you have AAA? If not, it might be worth the $50 or so for a year membership, for savings on value resort rooms. Not sure if they will discount the ASMu family suite or not. But otherwise, perhaps try for connecting rooms at a value resort. We have done that several times now...

My youngest loved all star music. My son loved all star sports. My other daughter loved Pop Century. I love Wilderness Lodge (but the cost of 2 rooms there is prohibitive!) We really wanted to try 2 rooms at a mod last time, but the cost difference per night multiplied by 2 rooms just wasn't cost effective for us.

Good luck deciding!

Oh, and if you decide to invite 2 more people along, I would think carefully. Do it if you have to (for help with cost, or whatever) but 2 rooms in a value resort will be tight with that many people's belongings, I bet. Unless you will have a car to keep extra luggage or whatever in.

HTH some!

OK, I wont tell you the same thing that most other have...by now you should know...lol, but yes they are right. I may have missed it but is there a reason you want to stay at a value resort? If it is the $...it really wasn't that much more to move up to POR. Having never have stayed in the Music suite I can't tell you how nice it is or anything but I would think with 6 people...the 2ed bathroom would be GREAT! Plus, having the kitchenette with the little one.

Also, I think I seen a PP mention renting DVC points. It is a GREAT idea for your family. Just make sure you have the money to pay about $10 per point...and you will not have the option of paying it off over time. You will have to pay the one renting you the points at the time of the transaction.

If you do book two rooms at a value, make sure you use the term connecting with the reservation staff, and let them know it is because you are travelling with minor children. Adjoining would not have the door in between, but would be nearby. Connecting is supposed to be guarenteed for couples with more than two minor children.
[Disney has said both that they are guarenteed, and that NOTHING is guarenteed, so take it for what it is worth. MOST of us that have requested connecting for that reason have not have a problem.]

We are at the point of soon outgrowing TWO rooms, so I don't know what we will do then. :confused3

Does anyone know if I will ba able to use the Florida resident rate for 2 connecting rooms at AS? Or will it only apply to one room or not at all to connecting rooms?

Yes you would be able to use this discount for both rooms.

You might just want to check what the cost of a car rental is and how long you would be there. If budget is very important, staying off-site can save a bundle. If you are there long enough, the room savings might cover the rental car. If you spend $60 per night on a room instead of $179, you could pay for a rental car pretty quickly. Just a thought.

DVC owners purchase points that are exchanged for resort stays. The time of year and day of the week determine how many points are needed for each night. Owners sometimes have points they won't be using and will "rent" them to another person. This means you are paying them a set dollar amount per point for the number of points it takes to book the size accommodation you need during the time you need it.

If there is more than one adult in your party, you may be split up even if you request connecting rooms at a value resort. Disney figures that one (or more) adults can be in each room with some of the children. The only time it is fairly guaranteed is if one adult is traveling with four or more young children over 3 years. In that case, there would be unsupervised minors alone in a room, which Disney doesn't like.
