How difficult to use holding points?

Had to cancel reservation at last moment today for the first time (DS has fewer so missing SWW). Targetting late Sept/early Oct for makeup but see that virtually everything is already book except SSR and who knows how that'll look 60 days out. How have people found availability when trying to use holding points? Have you found that something/somewhere opens up to make it work (assuming obviously you aren't looking at xmas or something like that)? If we can't go around this time, we probably won't make it before end of UY and I can't book now obviously so I have to wait and hope.

I would just plan to stay at SSR.

October is going to be very hard. If you are trying for multiple nights in one villa, I'm gonna bet it's not going to happen. You may wind up moving around and getting a night here, a night there. Earlier in Sept you might be luckier than any time in Oct.

We just used our points in holding last week. I made the reservation right at the 60 days mark and the only thing available at that time for multiple nights was SSR. We weren't too happy about that, but ended up enjoying the resort.

I can understand why there is such a restriction on using points in holding, but it is difficult to get reservations at the same resort for a longer stay.
