I am thinking of splitting our vacation and doing a few days in palm beach, but wondering how difficult the drive down.. From what i can tell its one highway...and help would be great

The drive is easy. We often split vacations between Palm Beach and Orlando. You can use the turnpike or take the Beachline to 95 and then 95 south (this is about an extra 20 min drive, but no toll).

I'd seriously advise avoiding 95. Accidents, road construction... The turnpike is your best option.

I drove from WDW to Pompano Beach (between Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale). It took 3+ hours. I took the FL Turnpike to Jupiter, then got on 95. Biggest mistake of my adult life. The traffic around Palm Beach was horrendous.....80mph, bumper to bumper. Aged me about 20 years in that 20 min span of time. But, that was the way MapQuest and my GPS Mabel sent me....could have stayed on the turnpike all the way to Pompano come to find out.

Stay on the Turnpike as long as possible, even if it's a few more miles. There's MUCH less traffic.:thumbsup2 I think it's Osceola that intersects with the turnpike.

I guess we are used to the traffic. Having driven in Boston, Chicago, Toronto, the traffic was nothing to us. The turnpike is a good option, but it will be fairly costly. Probably in the $15 range each way.

Take the turnpike to Ft.Pierce (exit 152 on the turnpike and 129 on I-95),you only pay $8 or around $6 if you use Sunpass.I-95 is only 1 mile away from the turnpike at this exit,so you basically exit the turnpike and get right on 95.You will then have another 40-50 miles on 95 to get to the West Palm area. From Disney this is a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Me too....I drive 128 around Boston with no problems at all. BUT.....when you are unsure of where you are going, what exit you're taking, it can be really distressing to have people riding up your back side at 80 mph..honking to get out of the way..in the far right lane!!! I have just never seen anything like it. Even when my step-sister drove me from Pompano Beach to Fort Lauderdale International it was crazy...tailgating seems to be an art form in Florida....at 80+!!!:scared1:

I have a question. I have a high school reuion on a cruise ship in Miami.

Some of the girls & I are going to fly into Orlando first spend a few days & rent a car to Miami.

My question is how long does it take to drive from Orlando to Miami. Is it more than 4 hours? Should we break it up and spend a night in hotel half way? If so is Palm beach the half way point.

I would be so grateful for any tips.

Thanks

Weeeelll, it took us just over 3 hrs from WDW to Pompano Beach. Then, it took us about an hour to get to Miami Beach from Pompano later in that trip. So, I would figure on almost 4 hrs total since you won't be getting off the highway and back on. I wouldn't make an overnight stop half way, if that's what you mean. You could stop to eat and get out and stretch though. Palm Beach might be a good place to do that.

This is just what I wanted to know.

Thank you for your advice. :thumbsup2

4 hours sounds about right. I usually figure about 3 to Fort Lauderdale. I'd be inclined to just go for it and drive it all at once. I'd guess the halfway point would be somewhere in the middle of the Turnpike and you're really in the middle of nowhere. When you get to the West Palm Beach area, you're probably only about 1.5 hours from Miami, so I'd just go for it...
