How did you propose?

My DH surprised me with a trip to Italy (I thought we were going to San Diego for the week). On the first night in Venice, we dressed up, went out for a very nice dinner, and he then tried to convince me to take a Gondola ride. When I found out the price - I refused. It seemed like so much money to spend. So, night two, he tried again, we dressed up again (which seemed really odd to me, as we're pretty casual normally) went out for another nice dinner, during which he talked about how it may be our only trip to Venice in our lift, don't want to have regrets, etc., so finally, I agreed to the gondola ride. Before he got in, he took something out of his wallet, and then spoke a few words in Italian to the Gondolier. Then we were off. When we were under the Rialto bridge, he go on one knee, took out the ring, and proposed! I said yes, and we continued with our trip through Italy... He was very relieved his work was done. (I found out after he had gone to the Italian Counsel in Chicago and had them write out how to phonetically explain to the Gondelier what he was going to do - the Gondelier then prompted him to actually get up and propose as we headed under the bridge. DH said he was so nervous at that point, he really needed the prompting).

My DH took me on a nightime stroll on the beach with a full moon. Just as we were turning to walk back he stopped me and asked me. I said yes of course and we have been happily married for 2 months now

I had a non-proposal - we had a conversation. He said something about when we get married and I said something to the effect of "so you think we're getting married?" and he said he thought we should get married. I agreed. We talked about it and decided when we wanted the wedding to be. We told our families, and went shopping for a ring.

It was just the kind of "proposal" I wanted.

Brye got home from a military deployment on the Thursday of the Memorial Day weekend. We headed to the Midwest to see his family, drove his car back to Norfolk, and then headed down to the World for a visit.

On the Thursday night, he told me that he had a day planned for the Friday and asked me to leave the room so he could pack my day. Ok? I thought. He told me to shave my legs the night before, too. Thank goodness for that warning. That morning, I put on my specified clothes- no descript shorts and a T-shirt. We had breakfast with my mom at CBR where we were staying and hopped in the car. He pulls out a blindfold. And I was expected to wear it. He did a few left turns to throw me off and off we went.

When I was finally told I was allowed to take my blinfold off, we were at Discovery Cove! I had always wanted to go and it was a nice surprise to say the least. We checked in and the lady at the desk mentioned something about going to the bathroom. Of course I went. I didn't know it, but he handed the ring off to her.

We went to the cabana at our orientation time, and at the end of the dolphin interaction, the trainer said, "To reward the dolphins for their good behavior, we do two things- we either feed them or we play with them. Since we've been feeding them this whole time, what do you guys think about playing fetch with her for a few minutes?" Everyone was excited. He asked for a volunteer and I immediately raised my hand. He pulled me out in front of everyone (much to the grumbling of the parents with young children). He gave me the signal to give her and she came rip roaring to the front of the encounter tank. He told me to lay my arms out straight and that she would roll the buoy right to me. Well, she began rolling that buoy and I noticed writing on it. It read,

Jill, let's chase our dreams together. I love you. Will you marry me?

Through the tears, I managed to squeak out, "Yes, but now you're stuck with me." He didn't say a word and just smiled. The whole thing was on camera and on film and it's hilarous to watch me try to crack a smile for the photographers saying, "Can you smile? Please smile! No, don't cry!"

You can't bring the rings into the tank for obvious reasons. When we emerged from the water after the encounter, a staff member- little did I know it was the girl he'd been in touch with from the Event Planning all along- met us and presented me with a coupon for our free video and photos. What I didn't notce was that she kept one hand behind her back. That had the ring box. Brye reached around and got it from her. He disappeared out of my peripheral vision, and when I turned around, he was on bended knee in the sand. He asked, "Now, will you marry me? It wasn't official until I was on one knee." I burst into tears again and got on my knees in the sand with him.

We spent the rest of the day in our fabulous little cabana- which I had actually been eyeing from the water becuase it was right on the encounter tank and had a bottle of champagne and roses in it! I wanted that treatment...whatever it was  When we got back to Disney, we headed straight to the Wedding Pavilion. I had never stepped foot inside it until that day. There was no question in my mind, even beforehand, that was where we'd be getting married. For dinner, we went to Narcoossee's and called everyone we knew to tell them our wedding date- December 29, 2005, exactly five years from the day and place we met.

Of course, the whole thing is on tape and I am teased mercilessly that I couldn't hold it together..... :rolleyes1

Congratulations!

This is so beautiful and memorable! :cloud9:

He is a keeper- especially since he told you to prepare (shave, etc.) it shows that he's thoughtful - very important!

You're very lucky! :goodvibes

Some of these are so sweet!

DH proposed to me at the wishing well in Disneyland. We visited the well several times during the day but it was always too busy! Finally, on the third visit, he was able to ask me.

:)

Sooo.... I'm gonna go with via an IM from the next room is a bad idea???

When DH proposed to me, he took me out to a really nice dinner in the restaurant of a small bed and breakfast by the beach (the beach was the first place we said "I love you" :beach: :lovestruc ). It was on our 2nd anniversary and I had already given him his presents and he told me I had to wait for mine. So...we get there and he leaves the little gift bag on the table for the whole meal. Then, he got up and said he had to go to the bathroom- and he took a disposable camera with him. A few minutes later he came back, followed by our waitress and asked if I wanted my present. I said, sure!
So...he got down on one knee and proposed and I said, of course! With the waitress snapping pictures the whole time. There was one other couple in the little room with us and they congradulated us and admired the ring.
One year later, we got married on our 3rd anniversary :bride: .
We just celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary/6th anniversary of being together on July 19. :sunny: :goodvibes

ETA: My friend's boyfriend's brother stole how he was planning to propose...His last name is Road or Street or Drive or something like that and he was planning on taking her to a street sign that was "Her Name" Street (or Road or whaterver). Then, he was going to ask her how she'd like to be "Her name" Street (Or road or drive or whatever).

BEST.....PROPOSAL.....EVER.

Hands down, you win. Congratulations -- I wish you 150 happy years together! Can someone pass me a tissue?

I was sound asleep at DH's house one morning when his phone rang at 5:45am. He left the room to answer the phone and then came back to say that his dad's car broke down on his way too a tee-time and could we go pick him up? DH said he was too tired to drive alone and wanted me to come with him.

So, we get out of bed and DH jumps in the shower real quick (should have been my first clue, but I hadn't had my coffee!!). I asked him why he was showering and he said that his dad might take us out to breakfast for picking him up. I was like, "Whatever...I don't need to shower for Dairy Queen." So off we went.

We drove 25 minutes to the edge of town, most of this drive I was half asleep. We finally get to the parking lot of an abandoned grocery store. DH kept saying, "He said he pulled into this lot! Where is he??!!" And the whole time I'm just yawning and saying, "Well, just CALL him already!"

Suddenly a van pulls up with a hot air balloon picture on the side...DH turns to me and says, "Surprise! We're going on a hot air balloon ride!" I was sooo excited because I had ALWAYS wanted to do one.

And...at this point I started suspecting something....but I didn't see any "box" outline in his shorts pocket and he wasn't carrying a coat or anything, so I still wasn't sure.

Well, we drove to a nearby park to get the balloon inflated and up we go! There was another couple on the balloon with us, plus the pilot, so it wasn't really private, but I didn't care. At one point, DH and I were looking at the scenery and we were kind of cuddled up away from the other passengers. And I said to him, "This is so fun. Thanks for being such a wonderful boyfriend!" and he said, "You're a wonderful girlfriend, but how'd you like to be my wonderful wife?" He pulls out the ring (no box - just floating around in his pocket - very scary at 2500 feet above the earth!!) and I immediately said YES!! :cloud9:

We got married six months later on December 10, 2005.

We were on the Rivers of America, watching the Believe! the fireworks show at Disneyland.

There was some quote in the show that said, "Think of your heart's desire."

Then hubby whispered in my ear, "My heart's desire is to spend the rest of my life with you." He got on his knee and said, "Will you marry me?"

I said yes. ;)

I love this story!

I love reading all these stories; keep them coming!

OMG, UnderTheMistletoe, that has got to be the most romantic proposal I've ever heard! And what a thoughtful guy!

My DH proposed over the phone at work. He'd been looking for a new job, and he called me to ask if I could get a day off work and go to Maryland with him for an interview. He said the company was going to pay for my expenses. I asked why are they paying the expenses for your girlfriend? And he said, "Well, I told them you were my fiancee." And I said, "Since when?" And he said "Do you want to be?" All I said was "We'll have to talk about this tonight." And we've been together for almost 22 years now! :goodvibes He's not very romantic, but he's a sweetie in so many other ways.

Thank you :goodvibes

He had a lot of time to plan it while he was deployed. I told him that he ruined it for all the little girls in the water with us that day. One of them (she's the one with the cornrows in the picture on the beach) said, "Mommy, if my future boyfriend doesn't propose to me like that, I'm not saying yes." Although hilarious, I understand the implications it could have for our children.
