How Did You Pick Your Favorite Loop?

It seems we all have our favorite loops, mine is the 1600 loop, for a variety of reasons. So I wondered - what makes you choose a particular loop to go back to visit after visit?

For me, it's simply that this was the very first loop we were assigned on our first trip to FW. It just seems like home to us.

I have stayed in 1600 loop the past two times at the fort. My favorite loop is 900 loop it was the loop I was first assigned. The 900 loop is a small loop close to Meadows Trading Post, Comfort station has been refurbished. Things I don’t like about 1600 loop, concrete pads are narrower than some other loops and I don’t care for the pets in my loop.

We have stayed in almost every loop and the 900 loop is one of our favorites. It is a pet overflow loop so it is great whether we have our cat or not. For us it is a good location since we like to walk to both ends of FW, Outpost and Settlement, at times.

We were assigned the 1500 loop twice and then have requested a certain site for the last two times. It is close to the middle of the camp, the pool, thr arcade and the Meadows and right next to a bus stop. It is also a small loop.

Our favorite loop is 1900....specifically site 1918.

During our first trip to FtW during May 2003, we were assigned to the 1600 loop. We had no idea what FtW was like first hand so we just asked for a pet loop with full hookups close to bathrooms. Our site assignment was OK, but it was close to the main road and bus stop so it was a bit noisy with the buses and other vehicle/people activity.

Since we immediately fell in love with FtW and knew we would return, we used part of our first trip to tour as much of the campground as we could when not in the parks or elsewhere in our rental golf cart. We planned on bringing our dog along so we focused on the designated pet loops at the time. Loop 1700 (across the road from 1600) was closed for renovations. All the loops we visited seemed nice, but once we drove into 1900, we knew we liked it better. Site 1918 which is one of the farthest from the loop entrance caught our eye and was empty so we took a few minutes to walk around. First of all it was more private. Lots of foiliage and space between neighbors. No main roads running nearby with lots of noisy activity. We like our privacy. It seemed like it would be easy to back into with a trailer (our next visit we knew we would bring our own golf cart) and the size and shape was OK. Unlike many sites that don't have a road or canal in back, it had a short trail back into the woods. Perfect for a private spot to walk our dog who throws a fit at the site of other dogs.

We requested it each time and have gotten it 3 of 5 times. One time we got one across from it so all in all we have been very fortunate.

I actually keep a list of potential sites. We started out in the 800 loop and moved on to the 900 loop. Both are close to everything. 800 is bigger than 900 and the bathrooms were usually more crowded. 900 seems quiet and sort of deserted to me. We still hear traffic, but adjust to that after a few days. I have actually measured a vacant site before (stepped it off) to make sure we could put all our stuff where we wanted and that the awning would fit. We walk around and look at other loops, but we always go back to 800 and 900. Just a creature of habit, I guess. (Or just good memories...) :sunny:

I always request the 1700 loop. The lower and higher number sites are bigger than the middle. My parents have a 40 ft motorhome and Mom says it is easier to back into. I have a 37 ft fifth wheel and love site 1702. It is the first site on the left when you enter the loop. Hubby says it is hard to get in and out of without swining in to the neighbors site, but once we are in, it is great. (Maybe not great when the tree fell on it last summer, but still great) We don't have any pets, but Mom and Dad are the baby sitters so it is nice to be in the same loop as they are! :teeth: location, location, location!

We love the 800 loop and request it every time, that was the first loop we were assigned when we did not know anything yet about FW, do like the OP we feel that it is home. The first time we went, our DDs were 1 and 3 and we had no car and a double stroller, we loved 800 because we could walk to the marina and catch the boat to MK and then monorail to EPCOT without folding the stroller, it also was close to the pool. We now all have bikes so the distance factor is not important. I heard that it is now a prefered loop so we might not stay there again.

We just returned last week from our first trip. Stayed in the 200 loop (209). We even had our own grapefruit tree!

Honest question: What is so great about the 800, 1600, 1900 loop, etc.? In the 200's we were walking distance to the Settlement. Pioneer Hall, Trails End, the boat dock all just a small stroll away. The next trip we're heading down, why should we go for these other loops. I guess since it was our first trip, any loop would have been awesome. But hey, if there's something I'm missing, I'd love to know. What better place to find out than my disboard pals. Thanks.

By the way; we're still a little depressed. It's like we left a friend behind or something. :sad1:

That's a really easy question for me. 100 and 200 are our favorites. When my parents took us camping at the Fort (see signature for dates) we were always in 100 or 200, so that is home for us. Since we have the doxies, though, we have to stay pet. I guess 300 will end up being our "new" favorite.

I don't know why we settled on the 1700 loop, I guess we go so often, been assigned to it so often that it has now become "home". I went last month, stayed in the cabins and out of habit, turned into the 16 and 1700 loop on the golf cart. After 6 weeks there last summer, I just went on autopilot. How devistated was I when the kids said, "We are in the cabins this trip, you are not going to find our camper!"

I'm a tent camper and 1500 is my favorite loop because of the location and proximity to everything. However, I like the size and layout of the sites in 2000 better than 1500. The sand pads are larger and there is a little "side" jutting out where the grill is that gets it out of the way. I use an electric scooter (ECV) to get around Ft. Wilderness and to get to Settlement using the sidewalks is a "loooong" way.

In 1500, there are fewer sites that my stuff will fit exactly the way I like.

1503 is my favorite site, but I've only gotten it one trip. I can't use 1506 at all. 1517 fits my stuff, but is really far from the comfort station.

So I guess what I'm saying, is I wish I could combine the site sizes of 2000 and the location of 1500

I'm going for two weeks this December, and have requested 1500. I'm driving instead of flying and will arrive just after checkout time, so hopefully will have a better choice of sites and can luck out and get 1503.

Do any of you camp in a tent? What is a good loop/site for tent camping? No pets.

The loops designed specifically for tents are Loops 1500 and 2000. They have water and electric hookups only. They have larger sand areas and less driveway.

Having said that, any type of equipment can stay in any Loop, but the full hookup and preferred Loops tend to have less sand area and more driveway for camper trailers and motorhomes.

I have seen tent campers in just about every Loop during my visits to Ft. Wilderness.

Wow! Two weeks! That's fantastic, Carol! You'll be there as long as us this year! When are you arriving? We get in on 12/3 and have requested either the 800 or the 300 loop.

We've stayed in the 1600 loop several times because that was the first loop we were assigned to on our first visit ( we needed a pet loop because we always travel with our cat Xiang....it's why we bought a camper in the first place :-)). This seems to be a recurring theme here....most of us tend to stay close to out first loops. :) But one year we wanted to try a preferred loop so we stayed in the 300 loop (at that time, the only preferred pet loop). Although we loved the location and liked having cable TV and being able to check the weather channel before heading out to the parks, we didn't feel it was worth the extra money Disney charges, especially since the campsites felt smaller and closer together than in the 1600 loop.

The next year, we decided to go back to our favorite loop. Such creatures of habit....hehe. But horror of horrors, at check-in time we were told there were no sites in the 1600 loop! They put us in the 1800 loop. And guess what? We actually liked it better! The sites felt more spacious and there seemed to be more room and more greenery between each site than in the 1600 loop. This made us decide to become more adventurous. We decided to strike out the next year and explore new territory. We would stay on the other side of the campground! We would take a different color bus!!! :rotfl: Since they were adding new pet loops, we could add the 800 loop to the list of loops to try. We loved it! It was close enough to walk to the Settlement area but just across from the Meadow area and everything it had to offer. We had a new favorite! We decided we would request the 800 loop every trip. But Disney had other ideas. Between our trip in 2004 when we fell in love with the 800 loop and then made our reservations requesting that loop again for our 2005 trip, and our arrival in December of 2005, the 800 loop became a preferred loop. I had heard rumors of this and the rumors were confirmed when we checked in and were told that we couldn't have the 800 loop. We were put in the 1300 loop. Although we weren't happy to have to get used to a new loop, we turned out to love this new loop. It may be our favorite loop yet.

To make a long story short....yeah, I know....it's way, way too late for that....hehe.....We've liked every loop we've stayed in! Maybe we just LOVE Fort Wilderness!!!

Well, I found a site that has video of ALL the loops! The guy put a camera on his golf cast, and drove all the loops, and then put them on the net. It was on another forums site.
