how did you pay for your wedding?

i know you have to pay the estimated budget in full a month before the wedding, right?

did you put it on a credit card?

or had you saved enough money to just send a check?

did anyone take out a loan?

i'm trying to figure out my strategy. i definitely won't have $23,000 by this January!!!

i'm thinking maybe i should try to find some low interest rate credit cards.

I have heard of people putting it on their credit cards... we have been saving for the past several months and have about 2/3 of it in cash. We put the money in an ING savings account. The percentage rate was amazing and constantly going up!!! We will be transferring the money to our checking account and paying with our Visa checkcard. We are still trying to get the rest of the money together (and that doesn't include the expenses outside of Disney we still have to pay for.. ie - videographer, dress fitting, limo, officiant fee, etc...) so I think we will be borrowing from his parents or brother... we'll have to see. I did take out some extra student loans but they ended paying off most of my other debts and so we didn't have too much left over for the wedding. My DF has lots of faith that it will all work out... you'll find a way. Just be careful and make decisions together.

We should have enough in cash by the time it is due. But we're going to put as much as possible on our Disney Visa to get the Disney reward dollars, then pay it off immediately so we won't carry a balance. Free money to spend during the Honeymoon!

I think if you apply for a Disney visa they have some sort of special for Disney weddings, but I'm not sure what it is.

Us too, Koyta! We put ours on the Visa Disney rewards card, and will be paying it off with a set amount we budgeted for in advance, most of which will be paid for before the zero interest is up. (I *hate* paying interest! It's a trap!) We made a wedding budget, and stuck to it. The biggest $$$ was my dress.

What happylala girl is doing is very smart. She is paying herself interest, instead of the credit card company. You go, girl!

I paid it over 4 payments on my Disney Visa Card. As soon as I charged it, I went online & made a payment and paid it off in full. We used the points for spending $ while on our trip. Worked out great for us.

We just sent the payment all of it except 2000 (part of my Mad Hatter Tea which I am paying for) was paid by check the other I put on our new Disney Visa - we have 0% interest until Dec 2007. I have the money in my savings but I do not have a job and figured with the 0% interest and getting the points it will be ok to carry a balance for a few monthes - I will pay it off after I get through Christmas - It is just so scary being unemployed and having to pay for all of this stuff - my fiance has a job and a house and all of that so don't worry about me I just like to be independent!

The interest rate on the card never showed the 0%, I believe that this is b/c it is not offically booked through Disney Travel. Just something to think about. We also used ING direct. It gave us a little extra savings...as we went through. I think that the total percent is 4% or so right now. If you have a little time this may be the way to go.

Jonette's correct that it doesn't show up like a vacation package or special through Disney Travel however if you get a card the 1st year is 0%. Just be sure you can pay it off in the year so you don't accumulate extra charges.

I was going to agree with KT and Jonette - no 0% unless it is a new card like mine is - I had my own got mad and cancelled and they sent my fiance a thing in the mail for 0% til Dec 07 and The light blub flashed -so the honeymoon will go on that too-

I called them several times with my other card and had a terrible time with customer service on several other issues - but got the same answer on the 0% on Disney Wedding a big fat NO!

we paid for almost everything by check (we saved for over 1 year) the rest was paid by our parents & my amex then paid off after the wedding.

Cheesy as it may sound......

We are putting it on my "happiest celebration on earth" disney cc ( i freaking love that thing!) and then getting two checks form our parents and paying it off.

Our parents offered to split the cost of the wedding 50/50, but i could not resist passing up my rewards from Disney. So we will never pay interest, but still get the rewards.

Thank God for our parents though, or else we would be saving and paying cash. DF is against any kind of debt, if at all possible. (he's strictly a mortgage only debt kinda guy).

Fortunately for me, my parents and my fiances parents are paying for the wedding.

As we are not eligable in the UK for a Disney Visa, we put everyting on our Virgin AmEx - so we atleast got some air miles for it!!

The plus side for us was that the dollar rate against the British pound went right up to about 1.8 dollars to the pound. We had budgeted £20k for our wedding, thankfully we went no where near this much and got a nice deposit on our house which we should move into next week!

My parents and DF's parents are paying for some of the wedding. Mine are only paying for a small portion because this is my second marriage. (Not that I had a real wedding the first time. Yes, I'm a little bitter, but I understand that money doesn't grow on trees, atleast not where I live.) DF and I had originally planned on getting the AMEX from TheKnot.com. But after reading your posts, it seems like a better idea to go with the Disney Visa. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that a while ago. Oh well. Thanks for the idea.

DH does not believe in credit card debt and although we use cards we pay them off in full every month and never carry a balance so we never pay interest. We are both over 30 (my first marriage; his second) and have been on our own for a long time, so we didn't feel right taking money from our parents to pay for our dream wedding. We saved and had a budget for everything "wedding" from his suit, to the cake, to flowers, to our honeymoon cruise, to developing the pictures - all of it. We stayed under that budget and had the perfect wedding. His parents surprised us by paying for the hair the day of the wedding and I knew they'd pay for the rehearsal dinner. My parents had offered to contribute to the at-home reception, which we ended up canceling due to mom's passing unexpectedly. I love DH's financial resposnbility and am so happy that it is rubbing off on me!!

I just checked the Disney Visa website. It only shows the 0% indroductory APR for 6 months. I thought someone had posted theirs until Dec. 2007. Was this a special offer?
