Karenperez: ING is an online bank that offers savings accounts and mortgages. They only have two branches - in Wilmington, DE and Los Angeles - but you mostly only use them for saving money, so you just conduct all your transfers online. You can Google ING Direct for the web address (I don't have enough posts yet to put links in my messages!).
I use ING to save money to pay off those deferred-interest things like mattresses and home electronics ("Pay no interest for 2 years!" that kind of thing....). At the end of the no-interest period, I can take all the money I've saved at ING and use it to pay off the mattress before the interest kicks in.
If you know anyone with an ING account, they can send you a "Refer a friend" email with a link to use to get $25 put in your account if you open it with $250 or more (and the friend gets $10). If you want, I can send you one of these emails, but I don't want to sound like I'm a shill for ING , so you may want to see if any of your friends have ING accounts.
Ours is a group effort! My Mom and Stepdad don't have a lot of $$ b/c they have to take care of a lot of people. (Since Hurricane Katrina, my parents have aprox 12+ people in the house to feed, etc.!) (It's a really good thing the house was big!) Anyway, they are helping a little, which is more than they should, and my Dad is going to give me a good chunck. My Great Uncle, that's living in the house with my parents, is going to give us some and my DF's dad and stepmom are sending a little $ every month for the wedding. The rest is up to us. Like I said, it's a group effort. But, doing it this way won't break everyone! I feel so loved! They all wanted to help out and I am so glad, b/c I had no idea how we were going to do it all! And this way, there will be no debt. Everything will be paid for!
I am hoping that I can have some money saved up so I can pay off the Disney Rewards card so I can get the points.... But I have time so I am saving as much as possible
