How did you meet your spouse?

We met in college at a Fraternity/Sorority Party. We were playing the game "quarters".. he lost! LOL Anyway, we became 'friends', and eventually started dating! 15 years later, we're still together! Oh my, that's a long time, eh? Have only been married for 8 though! :p

Cindy was from Long Island but living near Charlottesville, VA. I was from Cleveland, but was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the shipyard in Philadelphia, and divorced about a year. My friend Daryl and I went up to Susquehanna University one weekend in January of '88 to see his girlfriend, and Cindy was also visiting that weekend, having graduated the year before. I spent every weekend after that (when I didn't have to stand watch or go to sea) driving the 5 hours from Philly to Charlottesville to see her. I proposed over 4th of July weekend, and we were married the Saturday following Thanksgiving.

Poor girl - She had never been further south or west than Charlottesville, and immediately after getting married, we honeymooned at WDW, and then drove to my new duty station in San Diego. That was almost 16 years ago. She is the mother of my two youngest children, step-mother to my oldest, and step-granmother to my oldest's daughter, and she is the love of my life.

I love these stories

My DH and I met at work on April 19, 1998. We knew each other slightly enough to say hello and that was all. I happened to be on break one morning and I saw him and said hello. He then asked if I minded that he could sit with me. He sat with me and a female co-worker of mine and chatted about helping a lady named Donna pick out a new vehicle and the two of them going fishing together. I automatically assumed that Donna was his girlfriend. Next day I came in to work and my friend that had break with us said that Gary (DH) wanted to take me out and was I interested? My friend set us up to go mini-golfing the next day and she tagged along. By the end of the golfing she was calling her husband to join her because she felt left out as DH and I immediately clicked. I took him home that evening to meet my 4 kids from a previous marriage. I thought if anything would scare a man away, it's finding out that your date has 4 kids (most of them teenagers.) It turned out that he had 6 of his own. It turned out that Donna was a high school friend of his and he helped her as she has never been married and did mostly odd jobs to help out her and her mom.

We dated mostly at work, sneaking in breaks whenever possible. He moved in with us after 8 weeks. On July 15, 1998 he proposed and at 1:00 am on July 18, 1998 he asked if I wanted to get married that afternoon. We had originally talked about getting married in November but because a friend of his was visiting from out of town, decided that that day would be a good time to have the wedding and I ended up going to work that morning and keeping it a secret that I was getting married in the afternoon as we wanted the wedding small. The only person I told was the friend who set us up and she stood up for me. It has been almost six years now and we have never been happier.

Met my dh at work in 1984, we worked different shifts. In 1985, he got promoted to supervisor and changed to my shift. He was my sup. for a month until I switched to days. He asked me out on my last day and we've been together for 19 years! (married 15 this Nov)

We also kept it quiet for a long time...that was really fun, sneaking kisses in the copy room or the elevator!

I was working at as registration clerk in the ER, and my DH was an EMT. My best friend at work decided she wanted to go out with one of the medics, but he didn't want to go out with her because she was 7 months pregnant, so she called over to the station one night at like 2 in the morning when we were working night shift and talked to her guy, and told him that I liked Chris (my now DH) but I wouldn't ask him out because I was too shy, and if he asked me out (turns out he was planning to as soon as his finals were over at school) and I agreed to go, we wouldn't talk anyway, so they should double with us. I did NOT like Chris and didn't want to go out with him, and I'm trying to protest, and she hands me $20 and says "Shut up, you don't get a choice, here's something for your trouble".

We decide we're going to go bowling on a Tuesday night--we all worked weird schedules, none of us had weekends off much, so Tuesday it was. On Sunday, her friend calls and said he changed his mind, he just can't go out with her. She was working evenings that day, I was working nights, so I was home sleeping, and she called and was upset and asked me what I was going to do--HELLO! You got me in this mess, now get me OUT--I'm going back to bed, see you in a few hours.

About 2 hours later, she called back and said she had someone who wanted to talk to me. It was Chris. He asked me if I still wanted to go out with him since they weren't going to go, and I didn't want to be rude and tell him the truth, so I said sure, why not. Well, when I got to work that night, my friend was acting weird and about midnight I figured out why--Chris walked in. he had come to talk to me and get to know me better before we went out (the first time we ever spoke was on the phone). We didn't go out on Tuesday, but we did talk that night until almost 5 am, and he had to leave because he had to be at school at 5:30 for an ROTC workout thing.

That was over 9 years ago, in January 1995. We got engaged in August 96 and married March 97. Seven years, two dogs and two kids later, we're planning our second WDW trip....our first was our honeymoon.

im such a hopeless romantic...im not married, no boyfriend right now even..but i love reading these stories..it is possible to meet a nice guy!!! :teeth:

We met at the California Golden Seals hockey games. In those days, we bought "General Admission" and sat anywhere we wanted to! We both went to the hof-brau near the arena with the Seals Booster Club after some games where we really got to talking. Been married 29 years this coming September! And yes - we love watching hockey together (although the Seals folded years ago - we're San Jose Sharks fans now!) I like to say that I have a soft spot in my head..er...I mean heart! for hockey.

Yahoo - sad but true. My friends convinced me to put up an ad since I was single and meeting what could only be called total and complete losers. DH had been in the US for less than a year but wasn't having much luck finding a woman that could deal with his sense of humor. So his best-friend (who I just love, the boy cracks me up! We have a lot of fun hanging out together!) told him to look online.

We were supposed to go on our first date/meeting but I had to cancel when my friend from Spokane showed up at my front door saying her sister backed out of going to the Mariners game and DS and I were going with her. He still talked to me after that (a good sign I suppose!)

Our first date ended up being with DS (he was 2) and my friends 16 year old son who took too long back to school shopping and had to go with me. We saw Muppets From Space  DH's parents were arriving from France the next week and he said he wouldn't be able to see me during that time - never happened. We had a second date at Chuck E. Cheese :earseek:  again with DS. Our third date was a grown up date - he said he knew he was going to marry me then when I got a little tipsy and talked too much ;) I saw him every night when his parents were here, we went to the fair with them and they spent time with DS. This was Aug/Sept. 1999. We saw each other every day, talked all the time. We got married Jan. 14th, 2000, DH moved into my apartment the next day :teeth: We finally had our first time apart that summer when he went back to France for his Dad's retirement party. We were both just wrecks during that time, he kept calling to talk to me and DS, none of were handling it well. The three of us went to France to meet the rest(!!) of his family in Feb. 2001.

So we've been married almost four and a half years, he's adopted DS, we added DD in Dec. 2001, and we'll be adding DD#2 in the next month or two!

DH started a trend, he was the first of his friends to move to the US for work - two more have joined him at the same company. There is one of the group still back in France. DH was the first to get married, they were all going to stay bachelors for awhile. Two of them have gotten married in the last year and the fourth is getting married at the end of the month! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

DH and I met when we played against each other in an intermural volleyball league at work. I had just gotten out of a bad relationship and wasn't looking to get serious. Our first date, we went to the zoo and I told him flat out, "if you want something serious, look somewhere else, cause I'm playing the field!" Within a month, I had stopped dating anyone else, and within 2 months we were engaged. Married 11 months later, and will celebrate our 15 year anniversary this year.

I met my DH at a high school football game. I was 16 years old and a cheerleader for my school. He was a spectator for his. He came all the way around the field and said to me, are you ready for this...."Don't I know you from somewhere?":rotfl: We still laugh about that one, 14 years later.

1st day of school in 8th grade gym class. DH even remembers what I was wearing.

christmas Dinner - my DH has one sister who is married to my cousin. My aunt invited his parents and my DH to come over on Christmas for dessert. My family liked to play games. Everyone else in my family had a significant other with them that night so DH and I ended up being partners for trivial pursuit. We have been partners ever since. together 10 years and married for 8. And yes, we won.

DH was my best friends brothers best friend.........

My friends Db always had to drive us everywhere, we were only 15. One day we all went to the beach, it was me, my friend her brother and his friend. We had a great time! They all came back to my house for dinner - Moms Lasagna!! :lovestruc We've been together ever since. 9 years bf/gf and 14 dh/dw!!! Wow its been 23 years and I love him more than ever!!!! :lovestruc

If you ask DH, he married me for my mothers lasagna!!

curly  in need of professional help!

These stories are great! Here's mine-

DH and I were both working in our local mall. He was just out of grad school, and I was one year out of college. He worked directly downstairs from me. One afternoon, I was having lunch with a good friend from college. She and I met as freshmen when we pledged the same sorority. As we sat and talked, DH walked by and saw us- he had gone to high school with my friend! They hadn't seen each other since graduating, and didn't run in the same circles- if he hadn't seen her then, we would have never met. They caught up, and she introduced us. He was less than enthusiastic about me then, but in the next six months, we greeted each other in passing, and started getting to know each other. One evening when we both worked until closing, he asked me out for drinks afterwards. Then we went out on a real date the next night. Nine months later, at Christmas, we were engaged, and nine months after that were married. It's been almost 13 years, and I still thank my friend for being in the right place at the right time!!::yes::
