With all of the strapless syles, I have been wondering how people have lost weight for their wedding.....Anyone interesting in making a group to keep each other motivated?

I have lost 15 pounds just by watching fats and refined sugars. Oh! and exercising about twice a week (treadmill up hill for 20 minutes and crunches on an ab machine. I went from a "barely squeezing into a size 10" to a loose size 6!!!! I actually lost the first ten pounds rather quickly, after that it got a little harder. My fiance did pretty much the same thing just a little extra and he lost over 60 pounds. Our joke is that after the wedding we are going to go back to being lazy and plump!! HaHa!

Weight Watchers. I started two years ago and have lost about 50 lbs so far, it wasn't really for the wedding but more for my health. The fact I am going to be skinny for the wedding sure doesn't hurt now. I am really working hard and making sure I stay on points at the moment, plus adding excercise is helping. That way I'm in shape for walking the parks YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the time our vow renewal rolls around next year, I'm going to be my goal size 12!! :cool1: :cool1: I lost weight for my health and everything else that comes with it is just a huge bonus! :teeth: I've gone from a size 24 to the size I am now, a 14/16. My 16s are getting huge and my 14s are starting to loosen up at the waist. The walking I do a couple times of week makes a HUGE difference. I'll need to start doing more ab work, crunches and such to help me reach that 30 inch waist. It's now a 33 1/2, used to be 43! :faint:

I lost 40 pounds before our Wedding last year doing somewhat of Atkins. I cut out lots of carbs.

I used Denise Austin Shrink Yor Female Fat Zones Book & DVD. She has great, yummy meal plans and lets you have treats! I also went to the gym and alternated doing cardio on the elliptical machine & treadmill. I also did alot of arm workouts because i wore a strapless dress. Now, I use Denise austin's Personal Training system. You can choose a low medium or high intensity workout & mix and match. I used do a high cardio with medium legs and medium arms. It has a really effective ab workout too! I quit my gym membership because of this DVD! The best part it only costs $10 @barnes& noble.com.:flower:

You went from a size 10 to a 6?!?! I wouldn't say being a size 10 is plump!

I was amazed that I am having a size 10 dress (think that's a US 8) as I'm currently thinner than I was when I was 14 and don't recall ever buying any clothes in a 10 before.

I lost about 16 pounds since my last trip to Disney, from cutting out dairy, chocoate, cakes and coke... no diet - I'm Lactose Intolerant and couldn't eat the bad stuff even if I wanted to :0(

I'm actually worrying about being too skinny in my photos - as I'm in a strapless dress...

Hi everyone! I am going back on atkins on Monday and want to lose at least 40lbs for my wedding in December. I did atkins before and lost over 30 in around 2 months (less actually), so i know i can do it but i would love to get a group going to keep each other motivated.

Anyone who wants to get this group going i guess you can pm me or post here, not sure how we do this?

They told me where i bought my gown they can alter it up to roughly 30lbs weight loss so if i lose more i will have to get a new dress so i need to lose this fairly quickly in order to get another dress in time (ya know).

Thanks everyone!

Have A Disney Day!

I was married in September and have gained what they are calling the "Newlywed 9"...except mine is the Newlywed 13! UGH! Husband gained about the same also so I don't feel so bad! I am back on my routine and doing good, but the encouragement and advice of everyone would be great.

I would love to join and keep up with you guys if that is ok?!

As an answer to the original question, I really didn't need to lose too much before the wedding, just wanted to firm and tone up. I did the gym 5 days a week, 3 days of cardio and two of training. Just watched my portions and tried to stay away from sweets and eating after 7PM at night.

Cutting out soda and most sugars and working out 4-5 days a week helped me lose 20 pounds for my wedding and I have kept it off for almost a year now!

Very sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just trying to explain that my fiance and I were joking about it. We joke about it often because we both have lost a lot of weight in the past. Actually, my fiance has done fabulous. In all, from being his heaviest, he has lost 150 pounds!! He is really dedicated to his diet-especially since we started getting close to our wedding date!

I started losing with the help of Weight Watchers, but now I'm just eating healthy and exercising on my own. I have 15 pounds left until I reach my ultimate goal (I've lost about 25 pounds total)...I can definitely do it and I can't WAIT to see how our wedding pics turn out!!

I think this is a great idea for people! If anyone needs tips on workout methods or weight training let me know and I'll try to post some. I'm not a personal trainer by any means, but I did teach martial arts (still practice of course but moved) before I moved, and half of my job with teaching there had been helping people to get into better shape. A lot of that included a regular weight training regimen (if your looking to lose weight, and not build muscle mass, you go with a muscular endurance weight training route), so pick a weight training exercise, and do a minimum of 3 sets (5 prefereably) with 15-20 repetitions (minimum, and more is always welcome!). If you can do 40 repetitions or more though you need to add more weight. Let me know if you guys want some ideas though and what type of equipment you have at your homes to work with, because that will really affect how I go about thinking of things to suggest.

Number one suggestion though: If you do not have some type of weight training device at home, get one. Statistically those who have to go to a gym to work out, tend to not work out as often as those with equipment at home (for obvious reasons like convenience). You can get a standard weight bench for bench pressing, leg curls (for those lovely hamstrings and they even help get rid of unsightly lovehandles!), and leg extensions, at Sears for about $100 right now. Add a weight bar with 210 lbs of weight from MC Sports for another $90 and for $190 you wind up with a very nice weight set that does not take up a lot of room in your home.

Number two suggestion: Force yourself to run. Theres nothing better for building up your endurance. If you only make it 1/4 of a mile before collapsing do NOT be disheartned! Keep it up, and add a 1/4 mile each day. Make sure to walk for at least a half mile after each run though for a cool down.

Jump ropes are great ways to build up endurance! Just think, flip on yoru favorite movie and start jump roping! Voila! You are exercising and having fun!

Get some little dumbbells. You can hold your arms out directly to your sides so they are level with your shoulders, and simply hold them there. Your arms will get toned from this, but don't forget to work ALL your arm muscles, little exercises like this really focus on building one muscle set rather than several different ones.

Okay it's late and half to fly here but I'll type out some more ideas when I get a chance!

Ooh, I want too!! I at about 150 right now. Ideally I'd like to be 120, but will be happy with 130. Lol...we'll see. My mom did Weight Watcher and lost about the same amount. I live in Kuwait right now though, so I can't really do the traditional WW.

I would love to join you guys as well. I am trying to get in shape for a May 21st wedding where I'm a BM and of course get in shape for my own wedding in January 2006. So, count me in. I can use the support. :cheer2:

My fiance and I have just started getting serious about losing weight for our March 06 wedding... I have lost 20 pounds in the past year without really trying... but want to lose about 50 more pounds over the next year. So far, we have changed our diets (more veggies, less snacky/fatty foods) and have started running (I am only at 10 minutes a day, but getting better) -- I would love to join you guys for some motivation and support.

I joined Weight Watchers in the begining of Feb. and have lost 25.5 pounds so far on it. My wedding is in less than 5 weeks and the seamstress told me not to lose more than 5 more pounds before the wedding or else there'd be major alterations...I already went one dress size...but at any rate, I'm going to continue to lose weight becuase I feel it's better for my health and I'll get the bonus of looking hot too :)

I'm really happy with the WW "way of life" if anyone is curious abuot it feel free to email me:

Before we were even engaged, I started on the road to weight-loss. Two months in, at the time of the big question, I had lost 10 pounds. Total by the wedding, I lost 22. Now, don't flame me, but that was all I could lose, I wanted to get out of a TIGHT 8, pushing 10, back to a 6. I wanted to do it for myself, since I had been a 6 throughout college and back then, I didn't have to try to do it either. In fact, I drank like a fish and ate fast food every day (can't do that now!).
I did a lot of research before I started, and I found the healthiest way to lose weight and make it easy to maintain was to follow a diabetic diet (which is similar to Weight Watchers) and the key is EXERCISE! Keep this in mind ladies, it is my Bible:
For every pound you weigh, you need to consume 10-12 calories to maintain it. So, I weighed 155 starting, so I needed to take in no more than 1860 calories per day. I went with the lesser at 1550. So my goal was to lose 1-2 pounds per week, with diet and excercise. 3500 calories equals one pound, so if I cut 500 calories per day (500x7=3500) from my maintenance calories, I come up with consuming 1050 per day for the first week (1550-500=1050). I would combine that with 20-30 minutes of cardio three-four times per week and 20 minutes of weights three-four times per week so that I could lose that other pound.
Now as you lose, you have to readjust your figures. Example, when I hit 153, I had to readjust 1530-500=970 per day in calories. At 140, readjust 1400-500=900.
The key is to EAT RIGHT and you will not be hungry at all. Also, don't deprave yourself of things you love. Moderation is the key. I also gave myself one "cheat day" per week, where I could consume up to 150% of my maintenance calories.
This is a great web site that measures calories in just about everything:
http://www.calorielab.com/
The process is tedious at first, but be sure to write down everything you are going to eat for the day IN ADVANCE and stick to it to ensure you don't overdo it. After a few weeks, knowing off-hand what is acceptable and not will become second-nature! Its a way of getting you back on track to a life commitment of eating healthy!

congrats on the weight loss, this sounds very much like the Weight Watchers method...my mom is diabetic and when she changed her eating habits (she was diagnosed 1.5 years ago) she lost 20 pounds in no time.
