How did you learn about DCL?

I wasn't really a Disney fan growing up (don't flame me, I didn't know what I was missing) , I had only been to Disney World once, and then it was only Magic Kingdom on a high school band trip. So, DCL wasn't even in my scope as a possible vacation. Then, when my husband and I decided to do something nice for our 10 year anniversary we looked at going to Europe, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the kind of money my dh wanted to spend on flights. So, I started looking into other options. I figured hey, since technically we had a kid with us when we got married(shot-gun wedding) , we might as well take both boys with us for the anniversary trip. I had wanted to take the kids to Disney World before they got to old to want to hang out with Mom, so I looked into going to Disney World, but my dh wanted to easily have some time away from the kids and with the kid's clubs we had that option. I found that we could take the kids with us and do a Land/Sea vacation for the same price as the Europe trip would have cost. Needless to say, we loved it and rebooked right away. Now, we are getting ready for the third cruise, and I am anxiously awaiting the Wonder going to California.

A few months later, she set her mind to a WISH of a Disney Land and Sea Vacation and our whole family of 6 was sent in April 2006. My daughter is about to turn 18 this week, and she has been OFF Cancer treatment for just 2 years now and is doing wonderfully well so we thought it was time to celebrate her Good Health by taking her and her siblings back for another Land and Sea Vacation!
:

Oh my goodness, this one made me cry. I'm so glad to hear she's doing well!

I'm not sure exactly how I first heard about DCL, I think it was a magazine ad. But ever since I met DH in 1996 I wanted to go to Disney with him. We were really young (he was 18, I was 21) and poor, paying for our own apartment and all of our bills, so it was a far off dream. We got married in 1999 and my aunt sent us to St. Lucia for our honeymoon. I never even considered WDW :confused3. Finally, early in 2001 we (I) seriously started discussing it, and I was totally obsessed with the idea of DCL. I bit the bullet and booked a land/sea for December '01 because by then I was getting very nice Christmas bonuses. Well, life hit us hard that year, not just globally but personally and I don't know how we made it through together. We cruised 4 nights after 3 at the WL. It was so special to me because I seriously had begun to doubt if we'd even be together at that point, let alone be having such a wonderful time. Right after we got back I had been "jokingly" telling DH that we should go again, and one evening a commercial for DCL came on and I started crying, to which he responded, "Oh, go ahead and book another one." So we were back on in Dec 2002, 4 nights Poly, 4 nights Wonder. DH did not listen to me about rebooking onboard, and for my 30th bday in 05 we did a two week land (Poly) and sea (7 and 7) because we realized 4 nights was not enough! Again, we did not rebook onboard, and ended up on the 15 night 08PC. And once again, did not rebook onboard... we're waitlisted for the Wonder repo cruise. Next time, I don't care what he says, we're rebooking onboard!!! He loves the cruises and knows we'll keep coming back!

Sometimes knowing we'll be going again is the only thing that keeps me sane!

:dance3:

I have always been the Disney Fanatic in the family! I also live live in Chesapeake VA and every Sept/Oct Wonder or the Magic are in Dry Dock in Norfolk and I get to drive by them and cry (both ways) because of how happy they make me!

For our 8th wedding anniversary I book us on the cheapest land and sea I could in a cat 12.

Please keep in mind that I had NO desire to cruise any other line. I worked for a TA for one year and they allowed me to tour a Carnival that leaves for Bermuda out of here for the summer. The ship was half the age of DCL and it was the tackiest smelliest thing I had ever been on and the inside rooms were so small I looked at my mother who was with me and we both said NEVER!! We will spend the $$ for the Ritz C!

So ff 2 years, We got married Christmas, Dec 5 1999 had always wanted to go to Disney that time of year and thought what the hay L&S sounds great.

IT CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER! :woohoo:

This year will be our 3rd L&S trip and we are celebrating #10. And the size of a cat 12 is GINORMOUS compared to the Carnival ship!

I love when Dry dock rolls around then I start counting down to my sail date and seeing the ship!goodvibes

I think I'd have to give credit for us going on DCL to this board..... I'm pretty sure that's what gave me the idea- reading this board. LOL

I'd never even given ANY thought whatsoever to ever cruising- period (with anyone). I was a bit "anxious" whenever I was in waters that could have sharks/etc. I'd done it a few times in my life but wasn't particularly fond of going out on boats, snorkeling out in deep waters, etc. (to say the least) So cruising wasn't something I'd ever thought of doing.

But I read a lot on this board a few years back and I guess in my wanderings thru the forums here I came across the cruise forum and started reading and reading.. and the idea grew on me. I was particularly drawn to what I'd read about Castaway Cay- so when the first double dip cruise (2 stops at CC) was announced- I booked it. the rest is history. LOL Turns out I was fine with cruising and now the entire family is totally addicted to DCL. Now I honestly can't imagine cruising on other cruiselines although I won't say never.. never say never. we may cruise closer (out of Galveston) at some point in the future- but maybe not. we'll see.
