Technically my first was delivered via adoption

My sole live birth was a c-section at 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia

2 Va-j-j's, I was born to push! :teeth: But the baby's (#3's) birth was the best, he's adopted! :thumbsup2

I had both my DD's by C-Section. I just wasn't dilating w/ my first one and they started to lose her heartbeat and all so they did an emergency c-section on my. With my 2nd....I told my OB/GYN that I really wanted a ******l birth. He said that it was the office policy to not let a woman go past their due date if they had a previous c-section. I was crushed. He rambled on about malpractice and all that junk! So, here I was, 2 days til my due date....out jogging and praying that I would go into labor :rotfl: . My DH thougth I was nuts but I really wanted to experience the whole ******l birth. I didn't want to be cut open again. But, I had another c-section. Now I can't watch "A Baby Story" anymore! I just get too emotional.

I had three Va-J-J's, all huge babies, the oldest boy was 9#12oz!!! Then the last baby was an emergency c-section due to a prolapsed cord. We got to the hospital at 12:10am and by 12:31 he was out. He of course was the smallest baby at 8#3oz. I was amazed at how much harder it was to recover from the c-section though. I went out to dinner or walking at the Farmer's Market with each of the other babies when they were days old. I did not get out of bed for 3 days after the c-section, and did not walk fully upright for 10 days. It was so painful, itchy, and sore and the GAS!

I had my dd through a va-j-j. After 3 hours of pushing I said that is it I am not pushing anymore I want a C section. The Dr. said it was to late. I had to keep pushing. Obliviously I am not a good pusher!

LOL i did that, when I was pushing my 1st DD, I got so tired of the pain I stopped the pushing and kept screaming "cut her out of me, it hurts" the doctor actually cut my DD's hair while still inside to show me how close her head was.
My 2nd DD, I had an epidural so I didn't feel the contractions like I did with my 1st.

First a C-section, followed by two VBACs. I was late all 3 times...14 days, 8 days, then induced at 2 days late. My kids weighed 10 lbs 1 oz (the C-section), then 10 lbs 5 ozs (midwife delivery), then 11 lbs 5 ozs (doctor delivery). My kids are now 17, 15, and 13, and there have been a few changes in opinions since then about "once a C-section, always a C-section" vs "VBACS".

My first, one and only was delivered by NWA from Korea via Detroit International airport.

23 hours after my water broke...DD11 still was not born. Then I had a c-section. She weighed 9.8 pounds at over a week early (unusual for a 1st child I was told).

All 3 of mine were V's. First one was a typical first birth - everything happened slowly, but we got there eventually with no intervention (no drugs, forceps etc.). #2 was textbook natural V. #3 was my problem child (and still likes to give lots of trouble! LOL) - sudden transverse breech at 37 weeks, had us worried, I managed to get her back down by 38.5 weeks, water broke with no real labor, took ages to get labor established, but we were patient and let it happen when it happened - again, no intervention.

Am I the only one surprised at the number of C-section first babies compared to Vs?

2 VA-J-J's first DS 10 lbs! (WEll 9 lbs 14 oz to be exact)
#2 DD (4 years later) she was a piece of cake only 8lbs 13 oz!!!

VAJJ for the first one. He was 8 lbs 1 oz and needed vacuum extraction, plus TWO nurses standing on chairs either side of me, pushing on me when I pushed. I had PIH, so he was induced. It was 12 hours, no drugs, no epi.........until demerol in the final 10 minutes (and all that did was make me fall asleep between contractions and after the birth, didn't seem to do much for the pain at all). The dr. said later he thought we were going to need an emergency C. I had mulitple 3rd and 4th degree tears.

So, when DS number two was estimated at 11 lbs at sonogram 1 week prior to due date, there was no question we'd do a C. He was 9 lbs 5 ozs, but dr. said with his wide shoulders (just like DH), it would probably have been necessary anyway.

So true. My kids are 21, 16, 13, 11, they were Va-J-J, C-section, VBAC and lastly another C-section. All in all, the VBAC was my easiest. Not sure they do that much these days.
My first C was due to my DS being posterior and had a big head.
Last DD had a knot in the cord and was having breathing difficulty, so needed to get her out pronto.

Wow, haven't talked about these in a while. Thanks for the memories. :sunny:

My first was a C because she was breech. Very breech, so breech she was sideways. The second was an attempted VBAC but after laboring for 24 hours and only getting to 4 centimeters the doctor was worried and reccommended a c-section. Turns out her head was too big to fit

My wife is a pediatrician, so she examines the babies and talks to the Moms in the first few days of life. She says that she's seeing MANY more ELECTIVE c-sections than even just a few years ago.

She attributes some of this to career women liking the idea of being able to schedule the birth. Also, as more people move away from their families of origin, scheduling a birth may be more important so relatives can more easily plan for travel in order to be there to help out, ESPECIALLY if the new baby has older siblings that need taking care of, also.

But she attributes MOST of the increase in incidence of c-sections to obstetricians. She says that studies have shown that there are fewer total complications (meaning to Mom and/or baby) or at least less severe complications following c-section than there are after traditional births. Fewer complications equals fewer lawsuits equals less of a chance of huge increases in malpractice insurance premiums.

For the record, my wife wanted no parts of a c-section. She's attended hundreds of them and she always said they completely freak her out (not as a physician, but as a person). Our 6 year old was a totally event-free pregnancy and she was able to deliver in the traditional way. Our 3.5 year old was breach. She REALLY didn't like the prospect of a c-section, but we decided it was much more of a risk to have a perinatologist attempt to turn our baby while still in my wife's belly so the baby wouldn't be breach anymore. Reluctantly, she decided the c-section would be better, and we were very lucky. Even with ultrasound, the doctor's didn't see that the umbilical cord was wrapped around our daughter's neck three times -- if we had the perinatologist attempt to turn her, we would have ended up depriving her of oxygen and my wife would've had to undergo a "crash" c-section, which means the baby comes out in 90 seconds or less and you pray there was no brain damage from oxygen deprivation.

If we were to have a third baby, my wife said she would want to do another traditional birth because she thinks it's just the natural thing, and is actually better for the baby (as long as there aren't complications). And as a pediatrician, she's very uncomfortable with and displeased at the rise in "voluntary" c-sections. To be fair, even though she says v-birth would be her choice, her recovery from the c-section was easier for her. She said the pain and discomfort from the c-section incision was much easier for her than the pain and discomfort from her episiotomy.

C-section both times. The first time was an emergency because DS' heart had quit beating on the monitor.

2 c-sections, and I was heartbroken each time! 1st DS did NOT want to come out! 72 hours being induced, and never dilated! In retrospect, probably a good thing, because he was 9 lbs 5 oz, w/ a HUGE noggin...

Wanted VBAC w/ 2nd DS, but I was on bed-rest w/ a partial placental abruption for half my pregnancy, so wasn't even an option. (Pushing could've cause massive hemmoraghing...) He ended up being 10 lbs 6 oz!!!
