How did all of you do with Nutrisystem?

I remember awhile back that there was a great Nutrisystem deal. At the time, I thought, "I can't do a plan where I can't eat the same thing as my family", but now I would do just about anything to lose this dang weight.

Anyways, I just wondered how all of you did with the plan? It seemed like there were several people who signed up.

Thanks!

I was one of them and like all other diets I have tried..I didn't stick to the plan. I didn't care for the food either. I think my problem was I started it in the warmer weather and everything was so heavy like soups, stews, etc. It was expensive to add in all those fruits and veggies too.

I still have alot of food left and keep saying I will give it another try.

It works for alot of people so I am curious to see if anyone here stuck to it.

I did it for two solid weeks and ended up having to go to the allergist with a massive upper repiratory infection as I was about to start my third week. I hadn't been sick with a cold in almost a year so they asked if I had made any lifestyle changes and I told them I started Nutrisystem and I got a very disapproving look and a slap on the hand. The Doctor said that the lack of proper nutrition from Nutrisystem was the reason I got sooooooooo sick. I ended up giving it to my Dbf who lost 20 pounds with the remaining three weeks. When I started to eat normally I got over my cold really quick.

To this day the allergist still asks me if I plan on doing nutrisystem again. Definitely not!!

I am surpised a doctor would say that Nutrisystem gave you an upper resp infection. I am not a doctor, but would think that it takes more than food to cause it. It takes germs, bacteria to cause infections. I would think that it was more of a coincidence that you were sick after you started it. You are more likely to get sick from being around other people that were sick, using their phone, doorknobs, etc. I can't see that prepared foods would do it.

I'm sorry, I didn't clarify...

He meant that my defenses were weakend and the only reason he could even think of was that I was dieting. of course a germ or bacteria caused the URI but my immune system, which I had been treating for over a year with allergy shots and medications was perfect, and once I started the system I got very ill.

Sorry I was not clear enough!

That's odd about the doctor... I had the opposite experience. I started the plan and STUCK TO IT, I did not deviate, I did exactly what the plan said to do and in three months I had lost the 20 pounds I needed to. I have an already weakened immune system (due to disease) and because NS had me eating so regularly, I actually got healthier and have stayed healthier since. I stopped the program at the end of June, and haven't really put any significant weight on, even though I was on vacation for eight weeks... I can see where I may have gained up to two pounds back since the end of June, so I think every six months I'll go with it for a month just to keep those few pounds off...

I have to say I had a great experience with it, and I'd do it again with no problem :thumbsup2 It was really money well spent for me....

Wow, two really different experiences! I'm glad to hear that chris1 kept it off and it actually improved her health! I have 20-30 pounds to lose, and I would think that my health would improve just by losing that extra weight. Thanks for the honest responses!

I did lose 10 pounds in the two weeks I did the system. And I continued dieting on my own without nurtisystem after I got over the URI. Everybody's defenses are different, I guess mine are not used to very very very low calorie food, lol. Even healthily I eat much different than nutrisystem. Also, the food tastes funny. And I'm a frozen food queen, I will eat anything from lean cuisine or weight watchers ;) but this food was different. Too saucy or flavorless.

I stuck with it fo rthe two weeks because I figured, hey I paid for it. but because it was lowering my defenses I figured I would just diet without the food and also drink a supplement. I think Nutrisystem tells you to take asupplement or multivitamin along with the foods a fruits and veggies.

Sorry, I ramble when I'm at work, lol.

My boyfriend's dad has been doing Nutrisystem for about the past year, and has lost over 60 pounds! He looks great!!! :cool1:

That being said...after seeing some of the food, I couldn't do it. It doesn't look appetizing to me, and I like to make my own food too much (and decide at the last minute what I want to eat) to be happy with it.

Good luck with your choice!

I lost 41 pounds over a year ago and still kept it off. I think its a great plan, you just have to remember to eat your other foods along with the main meals.
And drink your water.

Anyone who says Nutrisystem is lacking in nutrition is not following the plan. You add at fruit and veggies to the Nutrisystem food.

I have been doing nutrisystem and have lost 15 pounds. I went off for a few weeks due to traveling and having company, but now that I am back on, I am feeling so much better. DH has lost 20 pounds. In the beginning I was losing 2 pounds/week, then 1 pound/week.

I apologize for jumping onto this thread, since I haven't done Nutrisystem, but have you thought about Weight Watchers? My sister lost 60lbs, my MIL lost over 40, I've lost 25 (my goal is 30), my hubby has lost 30+, and my parents (who just started about a month ago) have lost about 10 each. All eating "normal" foods. It taught me to eat proper portions. I still have M&Ms, ice cream, etc. when I want, but just in less quantity.

Anyway, however you choose to lose the weight, I wish you luck. It's good for you!

I thought some of the food was OK, but some of it is horrible. I lost 5lb the first week, but I think that was from the (TMI but you asked) GI upset. So, I tried 2 meals a day. No improvement. Went off for a month, then tried one meal a day. Back to square one. So, I have a lot of it left over and had to cancel. I'm not sure if that is common with the program but the CS didn't seem surprised when she asked why I canceled. Lots of others have had great experienced, but I didn't.

Here's another vote for Weight Watchers. It really is rated one of the best programs consistently and one of the healthiest.

The basic premise is to eat the following EVERY day: at least 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day, two teaspoons of oils a day (olive oil, flax), two servings of milk/dairy, take a multivitamin each day, drink at least 6 -8 glasses of water, protein at every meal, eat every 2 - 3 hours.

These are the guidelines that are included in your daily points they give you. (Each food is assigned a point.) If you eat all the stuff I just mentioned first during the day, you will not crave the other stuff as much. But....you can still have snack, cookies, cakes, as long as they are in your points range for the week. And you can still plan to dine out or save points for a party.

I truly never feel as good as when I am trying to do Weight Watchers. That's because I make sure I get everything I need before I eat what "I want". And I really don't feel deprived.

The other benefit is that you can eat all the same food you serve your family.

I'd highly recommend it.

Good luck to you!!! I know how hard it is to lose weight. Not half as much fun as putting it on!!!:lmao:

The food is awful! I tried to do it with some familiy members last year but couldn't. Luckily we bought it through QVC so got a full refund. The program is definately "hyped-up" on all the infomercials as it is NOT worth the money.

Here's the embarassing truth:

I have tried WW 5 times since my youngest was born FIVE years ago! I'm still enrolled in the online program because I joined this summer to "finally" do it. I actually did lose my extra weight with WW with my first two children. I just can't do it this last time for some reason. No commitment, motivation, I don't know what is wrong. I feel like "I'm really going to do it this time", follow it for a few weeks, then I'm off. Just thought something new like Nutrisystem might be what I need. SOOO frustrating. I wish I had a friend who would do it with me. That might keep me on.

I used NutriSystems and lost 32 lbs. I was 7 lbs from goal and got pg with my DS. I am using it again to get the baby weight off. I swear by it

Do yourself a favor (and save some money) and buy the book "You on a diet" by Roizen and Oz. I read the book and changed the way I looked at food. I lost 50 lbs in about 4 months and feel better than ever. I have tried other fad diets in the past. The book is easy to read and makes a lot of sense. I am not the most disciplined person and this was not difficult to do at all.

Interesting - I think I've heard about a different "You" book, but not a diet one. I have to go to Hastings later so maybe I'll look at it. Thanks for the info!

There are two books by those authors, the other is "You: An owners manual". I don't have that book yet. Take a look and see if it's for you. I am amazed at my results. Good luck in whatever route you choose.
